Heinz looked at his wife, "You probably rushed it and scared her off."

"Yeah, so what can we do now?" Grace sounded very apologetic about it, "I should have just told Zachary immediately that Maria looked very similar to him. We shouldn't have waited so long and ended up giving them enough time to escape."

"Let's go back first and send Maria's used cup and toothbrush to analyze her DNA while we wait for more updates."

Zachary was still insistent on his stance, "There's no need to check her DNA. I can confirm that she's my child."

"Let's run a test regardless," Heinz responded. "Once we have the results as evidence, Yvonne will no longer be able to escape when we locate her."

"Yeah," Grace also nodded. "I think what Heinz said is reasonable, especially considering that there isn't much that we can do while waiting, so we might as well prepare our evidence to be used later on." Zachary looked at her and nodded, "Okay, let's do it then."

He couldn't come up with any other ideas, so he followed Heinz and Grace to collect the DNA specimen that Maria left, then sent it to the hospital for an analysis.

After they worked on these for the whole morning, they still hadn't gotten hold of any news regarding Yvonne and Maria.

Yvonne left the kindergarten with Maria by cab.

The surveillance camera showed that their cab went into an alley, but they couldn't replace them when they searched for them there. It was as if they simply vanished into thin air.

Jensen investigated their whereabouts through the police force, but he couldn't locate them either.

At least they knew they still couldn't obtain any results for the time being.

Meanwhile, Maria was clueless as to why Yvonne brought her back to their unit. She also felt unhappy upon noticing how anxious her mommy looked.

"Mommy, you brought me out of kindergarten and told my teacher that you were taking me to the hospital, but why did we end up here instead?"

Yvonne didn't respond and merely stared at her in a nonchalant manner. Her gaze alone was nearly

enough to deter Maria from questioning further.

However, she asked again, "Can you answer me? I'm involved in this as well. I have the right to know what happened."

Yvonne sneered and said, "You do have the right to know what happened. Even if I brought you to the hospital, there wouldn't be any treatment for your chatterbox disease unless you turned mute." "Hmph!" Maria instantly covered her mouth, "Mommy, what are you trying to do?"

"I encountered an enemy who is chasing after me," Yvonne answered. "We're going to leave this place."

"You have an enemy who wants to hunt you down?" Maria stared at her in shock, "What kind of enemy? Why?"

Yvonne looked at her daughter and knew that her daughter wouldn't stop until she understood what was happening, so she said, "I stole something from my enemy."

"What did you steal?"

"Of course it's something valuable," Yvonne responded, "Listen, we won't be leaving our house for the next few days. I'll order whatever you want to eat through delivery, so we can't leave no matter what." "Must we really do that?" Maria was reluctant to be stuck at home.

"Unless you want to get killed!" Yvonne made a killing gesture, which made Maria widen her eyes in shock.

"Are you serious? Will we really get killed if we leave our house?" She asked.

"Yes," Yvonne confirmed, "I almost got killed last night. If you don't believe me, feel free to go out, but don't blame me if you end up getting killed."

"Are you really my biological mom?" Maria looked at her, "If you scare me like this, I'm gonna end up having nightmares."

"Are you even able to sleep?" Yvonne asked her in return, "If you could have nightmares, I'll have to thank all the deities out there. You've been having so little sleep these days, how could you even get the time to have nightmares?"

Maria instantly loosened her shoulders and asked Yvonne in a pitiful manner, "Then what can we do? What exactly did you steal from your enemy?"

"A tadpole that's more valuable than a diamond," Yvonne responded, "They might have realized what I've stolen and thus decide to come after me. Therefore, we might both get killed."

"What kind of tadpole could be more valuable than a diamond?" Maria was dumbfounded, "How have I never seen such a tadpole all this while?"

Yvonne blushed and felt guilty for making such a joke, "Maria is too young and innocent to understand what I meant," she thought to herself as she stared at her daughter's cute little face.

She was still a child after all.

She sighed, "Of course I sold it. The tadpole is no longer with me anymore."

"Where did it end up?"

"It probably went out to cause trouble." Yvonne rolled her eyes, "Anyway, you should stop asking me as I have no idea on how to answer you either. All you have to understand is that we won't be able to leave our house for the next few days. That's all."

"Then how am I supposed to go to school?"

"You can watch cartoons and learn at home, since you don't actually need to go to school to learn new things," Yvonne said. "A child prodigy doesn't have to read much. After a while, we will be leaving the Northern City. Then, we'll never come back here anymore."

She couldn't believe that Zachary would also end up here in Northern City as soon as she arrived.

What a coincidence.

If they were going to bump into each other so often, she might as well escape again since she already got used to running away.

"I don't want to," Maria shook her head. "I finally made some good friends here, I want to stay here with Little Gary and Ernest. I like them a lot. Mommy, let's not leave this place."

"That's a one-sided friendship," Yvonne responded, "They don't like you."

Maria rolled her eyes, "Mommy, I thought you were my biological mom. Why would you crush my feelings so badly?"

"It's still not strong enough for you to accept reality though."

"Well, I'm just too strong-minded," Maria smiled proudly. "I'm a strong-minded child who can cry anytime I wish to. I'm totally born to be an actress."

"Stop flattering yourself," Yvonne gave a helpless smile.

"Mommy, for real though, we should seek refuge at Little Gary and Ernest's house," Maria was very clever in brainstorming ideas, "I could tell that they come from a powerful family as they even have bodyguards. They could probably protect us from our enemy."

This daughter of hers!

Yvonne truly felt helpless as she rolled her eyes. "What a way to hide from our enemy by hiding in the house of his cousin," she thought to herself.

Her child didn't even know who their enemy was, so she didn't want to explain the truth and merely said, "Let's not trouble them. What if the enemy hurts them as well?"

"It's okay, Uncle Heinz is very powerful!" Maria continued to persuade her, "His gaze alone is enough to scare someone to death."

"You're talking about yourself, aren't you? Did you really think that our enemy is a child like you, who can't even withstand a gaze?" Yvonne said, "Our enemy is also a tall and strong man with a powerful aura. He's even strong enough to strangle me to death barehanded."

"Strangle?" Maria was dumbstruck, "Does he not even require a gun?"

Yvonne felt lost for words, "Did you get my main point?"

"Mommy, what is there to be afraid of if he wasn't even using a gun?" Maria was completely oblivious to the dangers of the world, "I don't even know what it feels like to get strangled to death. As long as I won't die in an instant due to a gunshot, I think my charisma alone is sufficient to make the enemy surrender. Mommy, don't worry about the enemy, I can protect you with my charisma."
