Lawrence said, "Since meeting your mother, I understood what it meant to be humble, and I could do that to her. But in the end, I still let my thoughts get the best of me and ended the last bit of her time in life." Alice shut her eyes tightly. Thinking of her mother's death, she smiled bitterly, "That's my mother's choice. She chose such an ending because of her feelings for you. You don't have to blame yourself." "There's a payback for every action." Lawrence said with a self-deprecating laugh, "I have never bowed down to anyone but your mother and my son throughout my life. I never thought that there would be a day where I will be sitting here, expressing my gratitude towards you guys."

"I also did not expect to be sitting here, discussing these things with you," Alice said, "There are indeed a lot of unexpected twists and turns in life. We will usually refuse in the beginning, but will always come to accept our fate in the end."

"Tell me, what happened between you and Jensen?" Lawrence asked again.

"I don't know," Alice shook her head, "I felt that he had become more childish recently and that he doesn't understand me enough. So I didn't have much patience with him either. In short, our relationship is kind of strained now."

"I can see that. Otherwise, you will be at home now instead of here, right? Shouldn't newlyweds usually be sweet and affectionate towards each other?" Lawrence took a look at Alice, took a sip of tea, and continued, "There's obviously something wrong."

Alice fell silent instantly.

That's probably the reason behind.

"It was the same for me and Heinz's mother. Sometimes, I would rather wander aimlessly instead of going home after work. Most of the time, I will only return once she has gone to sleep. You can say that I was deliberately avoiding her." Lawrence said, "When someone no longer wants to go home to their significant other, then it means the relationship has strayed from its course. Tell me, Alice, are you hiding from Jensen's request to make love?"

Alice blushed in an instant.

Lawrence's question was too blunt.

Lawrence saw her rosy cheeks and knew that he had guessed right.

He took a look at Alice and said, "Don't feel embarrassed. I've experienced most things in life. Although I am not your father, on behalf of your late mother, I hope that you kids will live a happy life too. So you can be honest with me, is that right?"

Alice didn't say anything.

She was also asking herself if Lawrence's question was true. Was she really like that?

"I can tell from your behavior that you are holding a grudge," Lawrence looked at Alice and said, "Alice, it seems that you're mostly the problem. Go home, it's already late, don't stay with this old man." Alice stood up and said, "Yes, I should get going. It's getting late."

She stood up and prepared to leave.

Lawrence sent her off and said, "I'm really surprise to see you here today. I have to thank you."

"I am also very surprised that I actually visited you. I thought that we will never meet again in this lifetime but alas, I was the one to take the initiative. Strange world, isn't it?" Alice smiled and said, "Keep your hopes up, I'm sure Heinz will come around. You are his father after all, no matter how upset he is with you now, he will eventually forgive you."

Lawrence paused slightly, and a hint of selfmockery flashed across his eyes. "That would be wishful thinking. I don't want to hold on to such hope, butthank you for comforting me. You are a good child, and so is Jensen. Don't avoid when you can communicate. It won't do anyone good if you wait until the situation becomes irreversible."

"Thank you," Alice nodded, "I will."

Alice left immediately.

She drove straight home.

She arrived at the gate of Hart Villa District, but did not enter straight away.

She stood outside for a few minutes before finally opening the door and walked in.

However, the room was pitch-black.

She turned on the light, but silence filled the house.

It was pin-drop silent as if there wasn't anyone at home. Alice was stunned for a moment and called out, "Jensen, are you home?"

No one answered.

Alice searched the rooms and found that Jensen was indeed not at home.

A hollow feeling overwhelmed her; she felt a little lost. Maybe he was still busy at work. Alice put down her bag and went to the bedroom to take a

bath.

Twenty minutes later, she stepped out of the shower with a towel wrapped around her. A faint sound could be heard.

As soon as she looked up, she saw Jensen's tall figure at the entrance of the bedroom.

Alice was stunned as her gaze fell on Jensen in his casual clothing.

He was also looking at her, but his eyes were slightly cold.

She was shocked to smell a whiff of alcohol.

She suddenly felt a stabbing pain in her heart, as if the softest part of her body was hit ruthlessly.

She looked at the man who had been drinking.

She suddenly had an urge to rush over and embrace him. She wanted to help him get rid of the loneliness.

"Have you been drinking?" Alice asked.

Although Jensen's gaze was slightly dazed, he noticed Alice only had a towel covering herself.

Her legs were long, fair, and even more slender than before. There was a sense of stubbornness and maturity in her.

She looked womanly.

She was every bit the businesswoman when she was at work. But he realized that it had been a long time since he had a good look at her when she was at home or wrapped in a towel. His gaze deepened and he approached her.

Within a few seconds, he was standing right in front of her.

Being so near to each other, Alice realized the smell of alcohol on him was much stronger. He must have had a lot. Had he learned to drown his sorrows by drinking?

Jensen continued to fix his gaze on her.

Alice tensed slightly under his burning gaze.

She didn't dare move at all.

"Jensen, you had too much to drink." she tried to replace something to say to him.

Jensen frowned and his eyebrows were tightly knitted together. He suddenly grabbed her shoulder, making Alice's whole body stiffen.

"So what if I did?" he suddenly leaned a little closer, looking at Alice, "Why do you care?"

Alice stood frozen. Looking at his stone-cold face, she felt fearful.
