"These won't be enough," Zachary said indifferently, "Unless you wish to continue taking medication."

Yvonne was startled.

"Do you think I'm willing to use them?" He added with a tinge of impatience in his tone.

Yvonne was startled again as she wondered how she had provoked him again.

It was only later on when she realized what he meant by not willing to use them.

In Zachary's words, there was a huge difference between using and not using them. No one would like to take a shower with their clothes on.

It took her a long time to fully comprehend what he meant by that.

He only said that much later.

When they got back to the apartment, Yvonne didn't carry much in her hands. Instead, Zachary took two trips to get everything upstairs.

Yvonne was a little unsure of Zachary's inner thoughts, but she could feel that he was still rather chivalrous toward her.

After sorting all the items, the house quieted down.

Yvonne felt awkward and flustered when the atmosphere quieted down, so she started making small talk, "Would you like something to drink? I'll go boil some water."

"What do you have?" Zachary raised his eyebrows at her and asked coldly.

"Instant coffee," she said, "Do you want a cup of that?"

"No."

"How about chrysanthemum tea?" She had bought some when she went out that morning.

"Not really," While he had seemingly declined her offer, he didn't sound as direct as he did when he rejected the instant coffee.

"Then I'll prepare some chrysanthemum tea," Yvonne immediately went to boil some water.

While the water was boiling, she noticed Zachary staring at her with a strange look. She was shocked and said immediately, "Why are you looking at me like that? You might as well say what's on your mind." "Shouldn't you be telling me something?" He asked her in return without hesitating.

Yvonne was stunned. She thought for a bit and wondered what she was supposed to tell him.

Was it about Wesley?

She had definitely needed to explain that.

She was silent for a while before she found the right words to start, "I know I should explain about Wesley."

Zachary narrowed his eyes and a hint of light flashed across them. He stared deeply at Yvonne without saying anything.

The more serious he was, the more oppressive and pressuring his aura felt.

It made her feel fearful upon looking at him.

"It all started when my grandmother got p*ssed off when I gave birth to Maria before getting married, therefore she insisted on replaceing me a partner who wouldn't mind my identity as a single mom, which happened to be Wesley. I rejected him there and then though."

"Hmph," Zachary snorted coldly as if he wasn't convinced by what she had said at all.

Yvonne was also extremely helpless, "I'm really telling you the truth."

Zachary glanced at her and neither agreed nor disagreed with what she had said. Instead, he simply extended his index finger and curled it.

"Come here."

Yvonne's eyes widened and she was so worried about angering him that she dared not move at all.

Seeing her like this, Zachary narrowed his eyes. He found the way she looked fearful to be rather cute, considering the contrast between her big eyes and tiny face. It all looked so cute.

She was exactly like Maria. Occasionally, Maria would show a similar expression as well, but more often than not she was a quiet child.

That sensitive child was the person most deserving of pity among the all of them.

His eyes sharpened as soon as he thought of Maria.

He had to solve their issues as soon as possible. The longer this took, the longer Maria had to grow up without a mother.

It would not bode well for Maria's future if she had to grow up without her mother.

He did not want his daughter to develop into a withdrawn child.

He looked at Yvonne again. Up until now, he had been waiting for this woman to personally explain the reason behind her disappearance for more than a year.

Yet, up to this point, she hadn't mentioned anything about it apart from the fact that she had

her reasons.

What kind of reasons could cause her to remain silent for so long?

Zachary really couldn't figure it out.

He felt that he had been patient enough with her, but she obviously didn't want to go into that topic.

Or perhaps, she simply did not realize that she was supposed to explain that.

While Zachary wasn't so angry regarding the fact that she disappeared, he was certainly angered at how she refused to tell him her reason.

A sharp aura rippled around him.

Yvonne was still hesitating. She could clearly feel the change in atmosphere. Why did things suddenly turn sour after awhile?

She could sense his face turning extremely cold.

She felt just like a frightened small animal. She swallowed her saliva and dared not move, she even took a few steps back subconsciously.

Zachary noticed how frightened she was, so his expression warmed up a bit as he said helplessly, "Didn't you hear what I said? I asked you to come over."

"I, I heard it," As soon as she started speaking, she suddenly stammered.

"What are you nervous about?" Zachary asked

coldly in return.

"I wasn't that nervous in the first place," she said, "But, but now that you're looking at me like this, I'm suddenly quite scared of you."

"What are you afraid of?" Zachary did not believe she was truly afraid of him.

"I'm afraid that you'll scold me, glare at me, punish me and torture me," The more she spoke, the softer her voice became, "Most importantly, I'm even more afraid that you will get enraged, afraid that you would not allow me to see Maria, afraid that I will never have the chance again."

Zachary's face changed slightly as he fixed his gaze on her.

She dared not move.

He stood up and walked towards her. Without saying a word, he dragged the woman into his arms.

Yvonne was startled.

Her nose hurt a little.

Because her face hit his chest, which felt really painful.

Yvonne's body stiffened. She didn't say a single word for quite a while.

Zachary just hugged her like this. Then, without saying a word, he turned and left.

Yvonne froze.

She dazedly watched as his tall figure disappeared at the door. She didn't understand why he would suddenly leave like that.

He left without saying anything.

The water in the kitchen boiled.

She ran to the kitchen and made chrysanthemum tea, but she couldn't concentrate for a long time as her heart was still in a mess.

Now that he had left, would he return?

An hour later.

Someone knocked on the door.

Yvonne went to open the door, only to see a small figure standing outside, looking at her with her eyes full of anger.

Yvonne covered her mouth in shock, and her eyes instantly reddened, "Maria?"

She looked at her daughter in a daze and couldn't believe what she was seeing.

Concurrently, Maria remained silent and simply stared at her with resentment in her eyes.

Angry.

The little girl was furious right now.

"Where, where is your father?" Yvonne hurriedly squatted down, wanting to reach out to embrace

Maria.

However, she avoided her instantly, rejecting any physical contact with her.

Yvonne felt as if a knife had stabbed her in her heart. It hurt so much that she was suffocating.
