Zachary was stunned. All the anger in his heart disappeared, leaving behind only guilt and sadness.

He felt remorseful.

Then, he heard Yvonne say, "Zachary... I... I... Um... Here, have something to eat."

Looking at Yvonne's teary face and hearing her stutter, Zachary felt even more remorseful.

How could he make her stutter so incoherently?

He nodded in a low voice and said, "Okay."

Yvonne walked in.

Zachary smelt her breath. It was mixed with some fragrance from the red wine. It was intoxicating.

She had actually drank alcohol.

Zachary was stunned as he lowered his head to look at her.

Yvonne walked past him and put down her things. She then returned to close the door.

Zachary looked at her as she locked the door.

Zachary was stunned. He looked at her in surprise and did not move.

Yvonne walked to his front, looking at him with teary eyes and a red face. Then, she said in a low voice, "Zachary, it wasn't that I didn't want to tell you. I was worried. I... I'm really sorry." Yvonne murmured as she lowered her head even further. She did not dare to look at Zachary anymore.

Seeing her like this, Zachary sighed in his heart, "How badly did I scare this woman?"

He lifted his hand and held Yvonne's face gently, letting her raise her head and face him.

Then, he saw tears welling up in her eyes again.

Zachary was stunned for a moment. He stretched out his other hand and gently held Yvonne's waist. Then with a little bit of strength, he pulled her into his arms. Yvonne seized the opportunity to hug his waist and say, "Zachary, I regret it so much!"

Yes.

At this moment, seeing him in so much pain, she regretted her actions deeply.

She had never regretted making the decision. She had always believed that leaving him was the best choice, or at the very least, the best choice for him.

But now, facing Zachary, who was in such pain and sorrow, Yvonne's heart ached.

Only after regaining what she had lost did she realize that there were two completely different emotions in her heart.

"I regret leaving you; I should have faced it with you. We should've gone to the United States together and supported each other until today," she whispered.

Upon hearing this, Zachary stiffened, and a hint of sadness flashed through his eyes.

It was only until now that she was willing to say so. To admit that what she did was not right.

It wasn't easy at all.

However, eight years were long gone.

They had been separated for so long.

Yvonne's eyes were teary. She grabbed Zachary's collar tightly and continued in a soft voice, "It was your dad who came to me back then. He was worried that I would delay your studies, as he wanted you to study in the United States."

"Why didn't you tell me?" Zachary distanced himself a couple of inches from her and looked down at Yvonne.

"Because I wasn't good enough," Yvonne said. Her expression was covered in a bitter smile that had a hint of sorrow.

If she had been confident enough at that time, if she had not been so insecure, perhaps, things would have turned out differently.

Zachary gazed deeply at Yvonne. He saw all the emotions on her face and memorized them in his mind.

He felt the same, too.

If he had been good enough and had given her enough confidence, they would not have been separated for so long.

Life was like a dream. It was obvious some things could not be solved easily just by speaking out loud.

Zachary held Yvonne's shoulders and locked his eyes onto her.

"I wasn't good enough for you," he said.

"No, no!" Yvonne shook her head and denied quickly, "You were outstanding. I wasn't confident. I was too insecure and inconsiderate. I only thought of letting you have a better life, but I never thought that breaking up would actually hurt you."

Zachary put a bit more strength into his hands and held Yvonne's shoulders tightly.

She let out a soft whimper.

It was a little painful.

Zachary loosened his grip immediately.

"Does it hurt?"

Yvonne shook her head, her expression still a bit absent-minded as she smiled at him.

After drinking the wine, she felt hot all over and was a little tipsy.

"Blame the time for being too cruel. Fate makes fools out of people," Yvonne said softly, "Zachary, don't blame your dad. In fact, this matter isn't really his fault."

"Don't blame him?" Zachary gave a bitter smile and said, "Maybe you're right. We shouldn't blame him for all of it. We are both also responsible. I should have shouldered more responsibilities. In the beginning when you said you wanted to break up, I should not have agreed. But I had too much pride. How could I bear such cruelty? I couldn't stand it, so I agree."

"Zachary, let's forget those unpleasant things," Yvonne held Zachary's arm tightly, pulled his hand down, held his big hand, and said softly, "Can we start over?"

Zachary looked at Yvonne, stunned. He knew that he should forget, but he still couldn't bear the sadness in his heart.

It was hard for him to forget.

Thinking back to the time he lost, his heart was full of sorrow, and he couldn't feel happy.

Yvonne saw that he was hesitating, and that the expression on his face was complicated. When she saw this, her heart tightened.

It had been too long.

He was probably tortured greatly by the lonely times, so he could not walk out of it.

She felt more guilt in her heart.

Yvonne didn't know how to comfort Zachary, so she only held his hand tightly.

In the room, the atmosphere fell into silence for a long while.

"Why were you so obedient?" Zachary whispered, "My father asked you to leave me, and you actually left. Why didn't you defend our love?"

Yvonne's heart ached. She felt deeply suffocated and pressurized.

"Huh." Zachary smiled bitterly and said, "How hypocritical of me to still be blaming you now. In fact, the most important reason is because of me. I didn't do well myself; I should have found out long ago." "Zachary," Yvonne couldn't bear to say, "Don't be like this. These are all in the past. I don't know how you came to know of this, but now that you know, I'm relieved."

Yvonne took another breath. "You kept asking me why I ran away twice. In fact, I don't know how to answer you."

Zachary was stunned. He looked at her with shock.

Was she going to be completely honest with him?

"It was your dad who asked me to leave you the first time. I thought it was the best choice, although I regret it now. After thinking it through, Zachary, if we had stayed together then, we may have broken up already."

Zachary was taken aback.

"Life goes round. No one knows what will happen in the next second. Because we were not able to love, that we understand the feeling of loss. After this experience, we will cherish each other and that our relationship will be stronger."
