True Fated Marriage (Grace and Heinz) -
Chapter 1613
"I'm not leaving, Liam. Not unless you promise me. Let me help you," Teresa insisted. She stared at Liam and continued to persuade him. "I'm being serious."
"I don't need your help," Liam repeated coldly. "Everyone has their own ambitions. Please respect my choice."
"Why do you have to be so persistent?" Teresa asked. "You don't have any income now. I saw you pawning off your luxury items a few days ago. You've fallen to the point where you need to pawn off your things, so why are you still being so proud?"
Liam pursed his lips, subconsciously looking in the direction of the bedroom.
He really, really did not want Maria to hear that.
However, Maria did.
Her hand flew to her mouth subconsciously. She was shocked.
Liam had gone to England to sell off his luxury items, hadn't he? Maria thought to herself.
He did not have any income, and he could not replace any part-time jobs either. He was not free to do what he wanted because his managing company was in control of every penny of his income. Maria felt miserable. Had it really been so hard for Liam?
Who in the world was trying to harm him? Why were they trying so hard to suppress him?
She had to rescue Liam. She could not let him continue living such a miserable life.
He used to be so popular, yet he was at such a low point in his life right now. How could that be?
In the living room, Teresa saw Liam looking away, avoiding her gaze. She continued, "Look, how can someone as proud as you continue living without any salary? What happens after you've sold off all of your luxury goods? What will you do to earn a living? It'll be better once you accept this part and act with me. This movie can change your life."
"Get out now," Liam said in a low voice while pointing at the door. "Please leave my house."
"You're still so persistent. Okay, I know you're proud. I'll give you three days. I'll contact you again in three days. You have to think about this clearly." Teresa took her hat and sunglasses, got up, and looked at Liam. "Liam, are you sure you don't want to be in a relationship with me?"
"I won't even consider it," Liam said coldly.
"Why?" Teresa pressed.
"I have never been interested in you," Liam replied in a deep voice.
Teresa bit her lower lip, somewhat disappointed. She looked at Liam with a bitter look in her eyes as she whispered, "Is that true?"
Liam stood up and answered in a cold voice, "Teresa, I don't want to know what you're thinking, but my thoughts are clear. I don't want to have anything to do with you. You should just go back to that older man of yours. Since you have chosen that path, then you should continue walking down that path to the very end."
He was clearly ordering her to leave.
Teresa nodded. "Okay, I'll leave."
She put on her sunglasses and left.
The door closed behind her.
Liam frowned as he turned to look in the direction of the bedroom. He was worried about whether Maria had heard their conversation.
Liam walked towards the bedroom and knocked on the door. "Maria, you may come out now."
There was no response, and the door did not open.
Worried, he pushed the door open and walked in.
Maria was not in the bedroom.
Liam shouted, "Maria?"
"I'm in the bathroom. Don't come in," Maria shouted. "I'm not done yet."
Liam was flustered. Had she been in the bathroom all this time and did not hear their conversation?
In the bathroom, Maria took a few deep breaths before opening the door. She looked at Liam with a smile and asked, "Who was it? Has your visitor left?"
Liam was slightly dazed. It seemed that she really did not hear anything.
He heaved a sigh of relief. He had been afraid that Maria would have overheard their conversation and be worried for him.
"Teresa, the singer," he replied.
Maria knew that Liam was proud, so she did not want him to know that she had heard everything. She knew that Liam definitely would not want her to know how much of a mess he was in.
Hence, she could not let him know that she was aware of his financial crisis.
However, Maria was surprised that Liam would tell her that Teresa had visited him. It did not seem like he intended to hide anything from her.
That was a good thing.
"The famous singer, Teresa Trevino?" Maria blinked in surprise. "Do you know her?" "We were classmates," Liam explained to Maria. "We came to Northern City together. Something happened before I made my debut, so she chose a different path and got famous before I did."
Maria could guess what he meant by a different kind of path, but she pretended not to know and asked suspiciously, "A different path?"
Liam nodded. "That's right. A different path. She did some despicable things. Forget it. Let's not talk about her anymore. Let's eat."
"Oh, okay," Maria hurriedly followed him out.
Liam went to get the food but found that they had already gotten cold.
Maria said, "I think we need to reheat it."
"Let me do it." Liam offered.
As Maria watched him busying himself with reheating the food, she thought about how much he must have struggled before his debut. Then, she went to set the table and helped to bring the food to the table. Although Maria looked calm, Liam was still unsure whether she had overheard his conversation with Teresa.
Maria's expression did not reveal anything.
The two of them sat down together and started eating. Maria filled up a bowl with soup for him and said, "Try this"
She had chosen light, healthy food to suit his taste.
"It's delicious," he replied with a smile. "You should eat too."
Only after hearing that did Maria start to eat.
They did not talk much, and the atmosphere seemed to be a little quiet too.
Liam had a slight suspicion that Maria had overheard his conversation with Teresa.
By the time they had almost finished eating, Liam could not help but ask, "Maria, did you hear the conversation between Teresa and me?"
Maria must have heard it. Otherwise, she would not be so quiet. Liam thought to himself.
"No." Maria immediately shook her head and denied it.
Liam looked at her with sharp eyes. "Really?"
Maria avoided his gaze and did not look directly into his eyes.
"You heard it." Liam was certain.
A little annoyed, Maria said in a low voice, "Yes, I heard it. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hide it from you."
"Then, are you angry?" Liam asked.
"Am I angry?" Maria was puzzled. "Why would I be angry at you?"
"Because I'm in a bad spot right now," Liam said.
"I don't mind. I can take care of you." She immediately shook her head, afriad that he would not believe her. "Don't worry. Just hang on until your contract expires."
Liam was a little bit startled.
"In fact, I only care about the fact that Teresa said that she wants to be with you," Maria continued. She pouted and looked at Liam with a sour expression. "She likes you. Have you liked her before?" Liam was surprised to hear that. He probably never thought that Maria would be different from other girls.
That was the only thing that she cared about.
"Teresa and I were just classmates. I just felt that the path she took was wrong. I tried to persuade her, and we got into a fierce quarrel because of that. She probably thought that I was interested in her, but I didn't like her," Liam explained. He paused, feeling that his explanation seemed unconvincing. "What I said is the truth. If you still don't believe me, I don't know what else to say." "No, I believe you." Maria smiled. "Okay, there's no need to explain further. Just look at how anxious you are."
"Maria, I can't give you the life you want now. But please believe that when the contract expires, I'll terminate the contract and work hard for a better future for us."
"Okay, I believe you. I believe in everything you say." Maria was very confident in him. "Do you know why I have always liked you so much?"
"Why?"
"It's because you're always filled with sunshine and warmth. You've always been an optimistic person, but you seem to be rather dejected these days. I'm guessing that it probably has something to do with what you've gone through. You're now at a low point in your life, but Liam..." Maria paused, looking at him with a serious expression before continuing, "There is still a long way to go in life. Smile if you can. That way, you'll have the courage to reach the peak."
Seeing how serious she was, Liam said, "You're right. I was indeed depressed because I was too focused on the gains and losses."
"What are you worried about?" Maria asked him.
"I'm afraid of losing you," Liam said softly.
Maria was taken aback. She stood up and walked towards him.
Liam raised his head and looked at her.
Maria mustered all of her courage to sit on his lap, then turned to face him, "Liam, I won't leave you. I like you a lot. You might not know how much I like you, but I really do. I'm the one who should be worried about losing you. Why are you worried about it?"
Liam was startled.
Maria cradled his face and kissed him gently on his lips.
Liam's eyes glinted. He gathered her up in his arms, then carried her into the bedroom.
