True Fated Marriage (Grace and Heinz) -
Chapter 1622
Over at Lowe Villa.
When Liam and Maria showed up together, the Lowe family was shocked.
They all stared at them. The butler even cried out in surprise, "Oh, Miss Maria, you're really back."
Liam brought out some gifts from the trunk of the car and handed them to the butler.
This was his first time at the Lowe Villa, so he had carefully prepared some gifts. Maria had told him several times that he did not have to do so, but Liam insisted that it was basic courtesy to bring gifts for others when visiting them for the first time.
Maria asked the butler to bring the gifts into the house. "Liam brought these. Where are my grandmother and parents?"
"They're all inside," the butler replied, ushering them in.
At that moment, the living room of the Lowe Villa was very noisy.
Zachary and Yvonne had learned that Maria was back, and Liam was the one who brought her back
home.
When they heard the news, Zachary and his wife exchanged looks.
They both knew that if they did not meet Liam earlier that day, no one would have told them that Maria had secretly returned.
They probably never would have expected her to be so bold as to fly back without letting them know.
The moment Yvonne saw Maria, she stood up.
"Grandma, Dad, Mom, I've come back to ask for your forgiveness," Maria said humbly.
Nerissa looked pleasantly surprised. "Oh, my granddaughter is back, and she even brought her boyfriend with her. Come, introduce him to me. We can talk about everything else later." Maria glanced at her parents in embarrassment.
Zachary looked stern.
Maria did not dare to look at Zachary, but she managed to muster up the courage to say, "Everyone, this is my boyfriend, Liam."
Liam was rather surprised by Zachary's stern expression, but he still wanted to show his sincerity. "Mrs. Lowe, Mr. Lowe, Madam Attwood, I'm Liam, Maria's boyfriend. It's my fault for bringing Maria back secretly. I didn't think it through and brought her back from England on my own accord. I hope that all of you won't blame Maria for this. It's all my fault."
"You brought her back from England?" Yvonne asked. "Did you go to England, Liam?"
"That's right." Liam nodded.
"Mommy, Liam went to England to visit me, but he was bullied by his manager. They forced him to come back. I was so angry that I came back with him," Maria quickly explained, hoping that her parents would not blame Liam.
Zachary did not say anything. He looked at Liam and said, "Have a seat first."
"Yes, sit down first," Nerissa said to Liam with a smile. "You look better than you do on TV, Liam. You look so much more energetic in real life."
"Thank you, Mrs. Lowe," Liam replied.
He was feeling rather tense. It felt even more nerve-wracking than when he went for his first audition.
He was worried that he would leave a bad impression.
Nerissa smiled and said, "Don't be so tense. Relax. We're family, Liam. There's no need to be so nervous. As long as Maria likes you, I'll welcome you with open arms."
Suddenly, Liam felt a warmth creeping into his heart.
Maria immediately walked over to Nerissa and sat down beside her. "Grandma, I missed you," she said
"Silly girl. You can just come back whenever you feel like it next time. If your father doesn't want you to come back, let me know. I'm older than him, and my words carry more weight than his," Nerissa replied. "You can complain to me too," Yvonne piped up. "Mom, I did say that we should ask Maria to come back, but Zachary refused. But look now, she still came back in the end."
"It is good that she's back," Nerissa replied. She glanced at Zachary, then said to the butler, "Serve us some tea and fruits."
The butler hurriedly left to carry out her instructions.
Only the family members were left in the living room.
Finally, Zachary spoke. "All right, since you two have confirmed that you're in a relationship, I'll respect your choice. Liam, come upstairs with me. Maria, you stay downstairs and talk to your mother and grandmother." "Dad, why do you want to speak to Liam privately?" When Maria heard that Zachary was going to bring Liam upstairs, she immediately got nervous.
Zachary glanced at her. She was so protective of Liam that he felt that it was a disgrace to him as her father.
"I'm just taking him to my study for a man-to-man talk. Why are you so worried? I won't eat him up," Zachary replied.
Even so, Maria was still worried. She was worried that Zachary would be too strict with Liam. She smiled and said, "I'm just afraid that you'll make things difficult for him. Let me make this clear, I was the one that wanted to come back. It had nothing to do with him. He even tried to stop me from coming back. He said that you'd be worried, but I insisted. Hence, this is all my fault."
The moment Liam heard this, he quickly tried to cover for Maria. "Mr. Lowe, that's not how it is. I was the one who brought Maria back. I couldn't help myself."
Zachary looked at them coldly. "What is this? Are you two protecting each other now?"
"Dad, we're not protecting each other. This matter really has nothing to do with Liam," Maria said bluntly. "At the end of the day, I was the one that insisted on coming back. He only said that because he was afraid that you'd scold me."
"Liam, come upstairs with me."
"Dad..." Maria started to protest, but Liam stopped her. He shook his head at her slightly, then walked upstairs with Zachary.
As Maria stared at their backs, her eyes filled with worry.
Nerissa and Yvonne sighed after watching what happened.
Maria was all grown up, and her heart now belonged elsewhere.
Yvonne cleared her throat and said, "That's enough. Don't worry about him too much. Your father won't do anything to him. After all, hasn't he decided to help Liam resolve the matter about the termination of his contract? Don't worry, your father won't treat him too badly. Take it easy."
Upon hearing her mother's words of comfort, Maria immediately walked towards Yvonne and gave her a big hug.
Yvonne hugged her back.
When Maria felt Yvonne's bump pressing against her, she gave a little cry of surprise. "Your belly, be careful."
She immediately let go of Yvonne.
Lowering her head to look at Yvonne's belly, Maria reached out to touch it. She smiled and said, "Little baby, I'm your big sister. I'm back. Do you welcome me?"
Yvonne was around four to five months pregnant. As Maria touched her belly, the baby moved.
Yvonne widened her eyes in shock. "Oh, the baby is moving!"
"Really?" Maria asked in surprise.
"Yes, yes. He might have heard your voice." Yvonne also felt rather surprised.
"How amazing!" Maria exclaimed.
Yvonne smiled. "It is indeed amazing."
For a moment, the two of them fawned over Yvonne's belly excitedly.
"Where's my brother?" Maria did not see him downstairs. "Is he upstairs studying?"
"He's at school attending night classes," Nerissa replied.
"He's so eager to study!" Maria said, turning around to look at Nerissa. They continued chatting a long while.
Meanwhile, in the study upstairs, Zachary sat down and looked at Liam. "Have a seat."
Liam sat down on the chair opposite the desk, looking at Zachary cautiously.
Zachary did not say anything. Instead, he looked at Liam for a while before saying, "There's no need for you to be so nervous. To be honest, I'm not happy about Maria coming back just like that. But since you were able to bring her back to Lowe Villa, it must have been your idea. Knowing Maria, she never would have returned home!"
Liam immediately shook his head. "No, Mr. Lowe. Maria was the one who wanted to come back."
"You don't have to cover for her. I know what kind of girl she is. She's my daughter. How can I not know her?"
Liam was surprised that Zachary had guessed correctly.
He gave an embarrassed smile.
Zachary sighed again and said, "If you hadn't brought her home, she probably wouldn't have told us about her return this time, am I right?"
Liam could only smile. He did not think that there was anything he could say.
Zachary glanced at him. "I didn't think it through when I left her alone in London. Gary, Ernest, and Celeste have all come back, so she must have been very bored there. You must have been worried about her staying abroad alone too. That's why you went to accompany her, right?"
Surprised, Liam nodded. "I had no choice. I can't go too far while I'm still bound by the contract. If they tell me to come back, I can only do as they say."
"Did you Maria about the contract?" Zachary asked.
"I told her everything," replied Liam.
"Then, let's get down to business."
