True Fated Marriage (Grace and Heinz) -
Chapter 1773
Upon hearing Victoria's question, Leah got reminded of Ernest's handsome face. She then shook her head and let out a laugh. She was reading too much into this. How could it be?
Ernest would never do such a thing.
Things between her and Ernest were so short-lived that it felt like a game.
She even had the feeling that Ernest was just toying with her feelings.
Of course, this was also what she would have in mind when she was in low spirits, even though she knew it wasn't true.
Her conscience was telling her that it was more than that.
They were just too proud to admit it.
They weren't suitable for each other.
Leah's heart throbbed at the thought of Ernest.
She then shook her head, trying to shake off his figure in her mind. She replied, "There's no one who will do this to me. It's impossible." "How is it impossible? This did happen. You shouldn't sell yourself short." Victoria was even more obsessed with this than Leah was. Leah was also amused by her enthusiasm. She laughed. "I'm telling the truth. I can't think of anyone else. I don't have the time either." "That's not right," Victoria got even more sensitive. "You do know who it is, but you're hiding it from me, aren't you?"
Leah felt a little guilty. She said hesitantly, "I really don't know about this. I'll tell you for sure if I have any idea."
"If you put it this way, I can already get a rough picture of this." Victoria put her imagination to work. "Let me analyze several possibilities for you." Leah was speechless. Was Victoria that bored?
She couldn't do anything to stop Victoria, thus she just played along and listened. "Firstly, I think this is someone who's crazy about you. Maybe he hurt you in some way before, and this is how he chose to apologize to you. He's helping you earn more while at the same time protecting your reputation too. If this book gets a terrible ending, it will definitely take a toll on your ranking."
Leah asked with doubts, "Really? Why can't I think of anyone who hurt me before?"
"It's either because you're slow, or you're pretending to be slow," Victoria said faintly. "The second possibility is, this guy is a fan of yours. He's just so in love with you that he planned all of this to try to trap you within his control."
Leah was startled and she gulped without her knowing.
"What do you think? Does my analysis make sense?" Victoria asked when she noticed Leah wasn't responding.
"It does make sense," Leah nodded. "Is there a third possibility?"
"The third possibility is that this person might be your father," Victoria said.
Leah almost choked upon hearing that.
"Why are you laughing?" Victoria reacted.
"I'm telling you, the first two scenarios are possible, but not the third one," Leah said, "He will never help me with the sequel. He doesn't know my pen name, nor does he know I'm an author. Also, he's too sick to help me now."
Even if he was healthy, he wouldn't help Leah either. His kindness was only for Rowane and her stepmother.
"Fine then," Victoria said, "And now you're acknowledging the first two possibilities, aren't you?"
Leah laughed, "You are really an imaginative person."
"Of course, with the amount of drafts I'm reviewing each day, I've seen plots like this happening way too many times." Victoria sighed. "Anyway, this thing just feels strange." Leah nodded.
She felt strange too, but she didn't want to replace out more about it. She was at least benefitting from this situation.
She already offered them, yet they refused. There was nothing else she could do.
"What do you think then?" Victoria asked again.
Leah thought for a moment and said, "I suddenly got inspired from this."
"What?" Victoria raised her voice.
Leah said, "This whole issue is just too strange."
"Of course it's strange." Victoria added, "By the way, what inspiration are you talking about?"
"I suddenly have an idea for my next book's opening," Leah said with a smile, "Thanks to the selfless guy who refused my money."
"How is it possible that you're inspired by this? You should be replaceing out his identity instead. He's unique. Money means nothing to him. What should we do to impress him? He's obviously a talent," Victoria said.
Hearing this, Leah could not help but laugh. "What do you suggest then?"
"Your beauty, obviously. He already said he wants no one else but you, Miss Reaper. He wants you," Victoria emphasized.
Hearing this, Leah said helplessly, "Why should I give myself to him just because he wants me?"
"Because he is talented. Look at his work. Even you, the original author, are attracted to his work. I am impressed too as your editor."
"He's talented. This is the first reason. What if he's gorgeous too? If he's handsome, talented, not easily bribed by money, and at the same time interested in you, why wouldn't you be moved?"
Leah sneered, "Are those enough to impress me?"
"I think it's more than enough," Victoria said, "If it was me, I'd have gotten in touch with him right away. If he wants me, I'd be ready for him anytime."
Leah laughed. "I'll give you that."
"Then start acting on it," Victoria said.
"Forget it. It's not necessary to bring it up. I don't even know who he is. If he's really that interested in me, then he should be more straightforward instead. I'm perfectly fine with him refusing to take my money!" Leah got back to the main topic.
"Sure, I'll pass the message along." Victoria replied.
Leah thought for a while and suddenly had an idea. "Take a screenshot of your conversation and let me have a look."
"Are you finally interested in him? Into his strange behavior?" Victoria asked.
"I'm thinking of replaceing some clues from it," Leah said faintly.
Victoria immediately said enthusiastically, "Sure, no problem. I'll send you the screenshot right away."
Not long after the phone call, Victoria sent Leah the screenshot images. Leah startled a little upon noticing the unfamiliar avatar.
It was not Ernest. That avatar was different from Ernest's.
It should be someone else instead.
She shook her head and laughed. If it wasn't Ernest, then it wouldn't mean anything already.
Leah found herself ridiculous for having even the slightest hope in this.
She felt ashamed of having such a crazy thought.
Finally, she called Victoria and said, "Let's just proceed with what we discussed before. We won't
make a move until he does."
Victoria said, "You make it sound like he's your enemy, when in fact he's someone who clearly has a crush on you. Who knows? He might even be your boyfriend in the future."
"No way. Why would I date someone like him? Does he really think I'll be impressed by him doing all sorts of things behind my back? I'm not that easy!"
Leah then hung up the phone. She continued studying her law books, trying to block her thoughts from the outside world.
In London.
Upon returning to the villa, Maria saw Ernest typing on his laptop. What was he typing?
Maria glanced from afar. She noticed that Ernest had become more quiet recently.
His gorgeous features were sharper, and there were no other emotions on his face. He had been like this ever since he ended things with Leah.
He became thinner.
By at least five kilograms.
Ernest was staring at his laptop screen while typing rapidly. It was as if he was so immersed in it that he couldn't bother about the outside world. She had no idea what he was doing.
Maria got curious. It had been a while since she talked with him.
She had to talk to him before things between him and Leah were officially done.
Maria tiptoed towards him. She was about to peek at his laptop screen.
Suddenly.
He slammed the laptop close.
Ernest looked sharply into Maria's eyes.
Maria was shocked and immediately gave him a smile. "Ernest, I was curious what you're doing. You looked so focused. What were you writing?"
Ernest said calmly, "Since when did you become so nosy?"
"I've always been nosy. Don't you know that women were born to be nosy?" Maria argued.
Ernest was still looking at her with a neutral expression. He wasn't planning to let Maria look at his laptop.
This made Maria even more curious at what Ernest was doing. Why was he acting so mysteriously? Recently, he was always sitting in the living room with his laptop, and he was always typing on it. He was always with his laptop.
He was also exceptionally quiet, almost to the extent of saying nothing at all. Maria found it strange.
