True Fated Marriage (Grace and Heinz) -
Chapter 1810
Upon hearing that, Zayne's eyebrows twitched subtly. Instead of looking at Essie, he looked at Leah and asked Ernest, "Is this girl your girlfriend?"
Being shocked, Leah stood up quickly and said, "Hello, Mr. Yarbrough. I'm Leah."
Zayne lowered his head and smiled in a faint, polite and gallant manner.
"Hi, I'm Ernest's uncle, Zayne. Don't be a stranger. Just call me 'uncle', like Ernest does."
Flushing, Leah was too bashful to call him that.
"Ah, it turns out that the two of you are actually Zayne's nephew and niece-in-law." Essie looked at Ernest, and then at Leah. She said glumly, "I really like the two of you. I don't want to take advantage of you by becoming your elder. However, I love Zayne too much. I have no choice but to be your aunt-in-law."
Leah and Ernest exchanged a look before both of them swept their eyes over Zayne in unison.
Zayne was very collected, as if he hadn't heard it. He said to them, "Ernest, how long have you been
back?"
He completely ignored Essie.
She had been given a cold shoulder.
Zayne's usual way of handling such situation was to take no notice of her.
Despite being rebuffed in no uncertain terms, she still pestered him relentlessly. Thus, he just treated her coldly and let her do what she wanted.
Being ignored by Zayne completely, Essie pouted resentfully with a touch of distress in her eyes.
However, soon enough, she had pulled herself together again. She looked at them in excitement, without getting angry.
Anyhow, it was not the first time for her to be treated with indifference. It didn't feel that bad after she had gotten used to it.
It was just that she was in a rather gloomy mood.
Regardless, it didn't matter. As she was wooing him then, she had prepared mentally to be spurned.
Ernest grinned at Zayne and said, "I just came back. We bumped into my uncle-in-law yesterday, and we see you today." "When are you going home?" asked Zayne.
Ernest was astounded. It seemed that Zayne had already known that he had not yet returned home.
He wondered if many relatives of his had also known it.
"In two days, I suppose," answered Ernest.
"All right." Zayne nodded and said, "Enjoy yourself. I still have some things to attend to. See you in a few days."
"Okay, uncle, I'll see you off." Ernest stood up and was ready to see Zayne off.
Zayne did not reject him, and the two of them went out together. Zayne paid the bill for them with cash at the counter near the door. He even tipped the waitress.
Seeing his action, Ernest was embarrassed. "In fact, I can pay the bill myself."
Zayne replied, "What's wrong? Are you feeling that you will lose face in front of your girlfriend when I'm footing the bill?"
"No, actually it makes me feel very proud." Ernest answered with a smile, "Isn't it a sign that I have many relatives?"
Zayne also smiled faintly, and his expression was always subtle. He simply left without even glancing back at Essie since he arrived.
Watching how he left without paying attention to her, Essie gave a moue and grumbled to Leah, "I've been hurt heartlessly and tortured by that man, but I still love him. Leah, what should I do? Does love always exist in this way? The more unattainable he is, the more precious and desirable he will be."
Leah felt that it was too scary. Zayne didn't even look at Essie once. Her heart went out to Essie.
In spite of being turned out ruthlessly by him, she still had her mind set on him. It was definitely true love.
How could he disregard that lovely girl so callously?
She was a lively girl.
How could he bear to hurt her?
Leah gazed at Essie sympathetically. "I think so, but he keeps ignoring you. Do you still want to continue liking him?"
Pouting, Essie suddenly smiled. "Of course. Not only do I want to continue, but I also have to do it bravely."
"Aren't you afraid of being ignored again?"
"I'm afraid."
"Then why bother?"
"It isn't in my character to chicken out in the face of adversity. I'm a warrior," Essie replied. After that, she looked at Leah in high spirits. "The tougher the challenge, the harder I have to work. Otherwise, if I give up halfway, not only will he look down on me, but I will also look down on myself. More importantly, when love is gone, how am I going to live?"
Leah blinked in amazement, feeling that Essie was exceptional. Ordinary people would be disoriented in such situation.
On the contrary, notwithstanding the challenge, she became braver and braver.
For all the cold shoulders she had been thrown with, she managed to continue bravely. Perhaps a light at the end of the tunnel would be bestowed upon her by heaven for her courage. Leah prayed for her.
She really hoped that the dream of the brave girl in front of her could be realized.
After a moment of despondency, Essie got a grip on herself and returned to her customary vital self. She turned to stare after Zayne's back which was leaving and said, "They look alike, right? It's been said that nephews will resemble their uncles. This is really a strange fate."
Leah could not help but to sweep her eyes across Zayne and Ernest, who were walking towards the door. They did look a little similar.
Being tall and broad-shouldered, both of them had attracted countless people's attention by just standing near the door.
Time did not leave any trace on Zayne's face. He still looked very young, just about 30 years old.
Such an age was a perfect age.
He was mature and experienced, but not too old.
However, Leah wondered why he was not married yet at his age.
Leah was aware that he was a famous eligible bachelor in Northern City. If her memory served her well, he should be around 35 years old at the moment.
It was just that he looked like he had not even reached thirty.
"If Mr. Yarbrough doesn't end up with you at last, won't your efforts be in vain?" Leah still said out some of her worries.
Who would have thought that Essie wasn't incensed at all. Instead, she consoled Leah cheerfully, "That won't happen. I'll succeed for sure. I'll marry him. He can only be mine." Leah felt that Essie was singularly confident. Such a quality was not something an ordinary person would possess.
That kind of unimaginable confidence really was not a quality that you could replace in just everyone.
Leah couldn't help admiring her. She looked petite, young, cute and brave.
"Well, I hope you'll succeed in pursuing Mr. Yarbrough and wind up being my boyfriend's auntin- law." Leah could not help laughing at the thought of the young girl being her elder. "Haha, of course. I will work hard, and I will certainly become your aunt-in-law." Essie clenched her fist in determination.
Outside the door, Ernest wondered why Zayne had appeared there out of the blue as it was rather strange, so he inquired when Zayne was about to leave.
"Uncle, why did you appear here all of a sudden?"
Zayne darted an insouciant glance at Ernest while replying, "I was just passing by."
His answer was rather simple, but Ernest gave a significant laugh in response to it.
"Why did you pass by here so early in the morning? Could it be that there's something here that has aroused your interest? Or, could it be someone?"
Hearing that, Zayne glanced at Ernest with his penetrating gaze before answering apathetically, "Perhaps."
