True Fated Marriage (Grace and Heinz) -
Chapter 1876
Grace and Heinz sighed. When it was time for lunch, they found that they were the only two people at the dining table.
Heinz was stunned for a moment and felt a little lost.
He glanced at the table and asked the butler, "Aren't Gary and Celeste coming back for lunch?"
The butler hurriedly answered, "No, Mr. Heinz. When the both of them left the house today, they told me that they wouldn't be back for lunch and dinner. They're going on a trip."
"Where did they go?" Heinz asked again. Since they weren't coming back, it meant that they went somewhere that was a distance away.
The butler replied, "I don't know, Mr. Heinz."
"It's alright. You may leave." Heinz nodded.
After the butler left, only Grace and Heinz remained at the table.
Sebastian and Sylvia would be having lunch at school. Since Sylvia was living in the school dorms, only Sebastian would be back home. Gary and Celeste had come by during their semester break, so the place was a little more lively. Once they went back to university, the house would be really empty.
Grace said, "Let's eat."
Heinz noticed that Grace was not in a good mood, so he comforted her, "Shall we go out for a stroll later in the evening?"
"I don't want to." Grace shook her head. "My belly's starting to grow. It's tiring to walk around outside."
Heinz stared at his wife's belly. Since Grace was pregnant in her forties, it made sense that it would be more tiring for her. Her last pregnancy was about 15 years ago, and it had been tiring enough. This time, they were both much older.
Heinz was unable to help Grace much. All he could do at the moment was accompany her as much as possible.
"Alright. I'll massage your legs later," Heinz said.
Grace looked up at him and replied, "You can head back to the company later. I'm honestly fine. I'm going to take a nap afterwards."
"There's not much to do in the office." Heinz shook his head.
"By the way, Lowell didn't come back this time as well," Grace added, "Have you called him?" "Yes. He told me that he won't be coming back," Heinz said. "He's just attended the old man's funeral. It hasn't been that long since then. I understand why he doesn't want to come back. He has tons to do in the lab."
After thinking for a while, Grace lowered her head and said softly, "I suppose he doesn't feel like he truly belongs to the Jones family."
Heinz raised his eyebrows and said, "Well, he's a tough man. If he doesn't feel like he belongs, he'll pave a way himself. He's all grown up now, so you don't have to worry about him."
"Okay." After that, she finished her bowl of soup and stopped talking about Lowell.
At this moment, the phone suddenly rang.
Grace was shocked when she saw who the caller was.
"Who's calling?" Heinz asked.
"Sylvia," said Grace.
Heinz quickly said, "You should answer it."
She picked up the phone and reminded herself to keep calm when she spoke to her daughter.
According to what Kendrix had said, if she tried to appreciate her daughter more, she might come to understand her more.
Grace greeted, "Hello, Sylvia."
A sharp and piercing voice came from the other end of the phone. "Mommy, why did you come to school to look for Mr. Trevino? I'm already living in the school dorms and didn't dare to have any opinions on the matter! Why would you come look for Mr. Trevino? What's the matter with you? You made me look like a joke in front of the whole school! You just want to embarrass me as much as you can, don't you?" The series of accusations by her daughter made her heart ache.
This was the first time Sylvia had spoken to her in such a tone.
Her voice was sharp and accusatory.
It shocked Grace greatly, causing her to stiffen her expression. She did not know what to say. All the color on her face faded away in an instant.
Heinz was stunned when he saw how pale Grace had gotten. He frowned worriedly.
Grace snapped back, "Do you think that I went to look for your teacher to solely embarrass you?"
"Am I wrong?" Sylvia asked in a cold voice. "I'm not a child anymore. Can you please respect my decisions for once? You can ignore me all you want, but please don't criticize my life in school, okay?" Grace held the phone to her ear and remained silent for a long while. She forgot how to speak momentarily. Her daughter's accusations caused her mind to blank. She had no idea how to answer her. Sylvia seemed a little too emotional. Grace had no idea what made her daughter so worked up.
"Mommy, I'm already sixteen years old. I don't want you to interfere with my school life in the future. Can't you trust me to fend for myself? Why do you have to go meet up with my teacher? Besides, Mr. Trevinc is only a substitute that's going to be here for three months. Was it necessary for you to meet him? Please don't appear in my school again in the future, okay?"
"Okay." Grace's voice was slightly hoarse. "I didn't think it through beforehand. I'm sorry."
Sylvia was stunned by the sudden apology.
After a moment's pause, she replied coldly, "Alright, I forgive you."
After that, Sylvia hung up the phone.
Grace held the phone in her hand and did not move for a long while.
Heinz became anxious. "What happened? Honey, what did she say? What happened? What did she tell you?"
Heinz's intuition told him that Sylvia had said something hurtful to his wife, but he didn't know what had been said.
His wife's face was pale and colorless.
Only then did Heinz realize that his wife was deeply hurt.
His heart clenched painfully. He walked up to Grace, bent down, and said with concern, "Grace? What did Sylvia say? I'll yell at her for you."
He stood up anxiously and moved to go replace Sylvia.
She tugged on Heinz's clothes hurriedly and said, "Don't do it."
When Heinz turned back, he saw that his wife was holding onto his clothes tightly. The grip was so tight that her knuckles were white.
His heart ached even more. "Grace?"
"I'm fine." Grace shook her head. "She has just grown up, that's all."
She released her grip on Heinz and said, "Don't go look for Sylvia."
Heinz, on the other hand, felt as if he had been injured. Grace's hurt expression worried him.
He couldn't help but ask, "Then tell me, what happened?"
"I feel a little unwell," Grace said. "Please stop asking. I just need some time for myself, alright? Can you stop talking for a moment?"
Even though Heinz wanted to speak up once more, he managed to stop himself. His heart ached for his wife.
After they finished eating, Grace got up. "I'm going back to our room to rest. You'd better not go to the school. I'm serious. I don't want you to confront Sylvia." Heinz watched Grace walk up the stairs sadly.
He really wanted to ask his daughter what had gone wrong, but he couldn't because Grace had told him not to. As such, he could only worry about Grace.
