True Fated Marriage (Grace and Heinz) -
Chapter 1986
Everyone noticed Gary's reaction, and they thought that it was a little strange.
Maria even told Gary directly, "Gary, why are you sitting so far from Celeste? You are almost a hundred thousand miles away from her."
Celeste was stunned, the back of her spine stiffened too.
She looked up at Maria awkwardly, and a stiff smile could be seen on her face.
Gary's expression stiffened as well, as if they have read his mind.
He frowned and retorted, "Celeste and I are not like you people who likes to show off your affection so much. Our relationship is very conservative. There is no need to display our affections in front of you all. Don't you think it is annoying to always be so clingy?"
"There is no need to act affectionate in front of us. If you want to do that, you can go back to your room. People say that couples who have been away from each other for a short while will have their hearts grow fonder of each other, and would want to spend more time together. However, you two have been away from each other for a few days, but you still insisted on coming down with us for a chat. You two don't feel like a couple at all."
Maria did not care about that. She just told Gary about all the thoughts on her mind, not caring about Gary's feelings at all.
"Humph! Where is your gratitude? You and Liam are about to go back to the production crew today, that is why I thought about coming down. This is a farewell for you two. How dare you speak to me like that?' Gary retorted once more.
"Well, thank you for that, but I still think that it is better for you to accompany Celeste now. As for our farewell, I think a dinner together at night is good enough." Maria stood up and said, "Besides, Liam and I still have other things to do. We will be heading out. So, please, go ahead."
Liam stood up as well, he said, "That's right. Gary, Maria and I still need to go out."
"Leah and I have to go out as well." Ernest and Leah both stood up. "Let's meet at six o'clock for dinner. There is still two and a half hours left. Let's meet at the dining room at that time."
"Do you all have something to do?" Celeste was dumbfounded.
Wasn't that too much of a coincidence?
Those two couples were both busy at the same time.
It was obvious that they were purposefully giving Gary and Celeste some space.
Celeste was very surprised, she gawked at them as they swaggered out of the villa together.
At that moment, only Gary and herself were left in the main hall of the villa.
It was suddenly very quiet, and no sound could be heard at all.
Celeste's body stiffened slightly, and after a while, she turned to look at Gary.
Their eyes suddenly met. His gaze was fixed on her face, it made her heart tremble.
When he saw her turning around and looking at him, he was suddenly stunned, as if he was caught. He felt greatly awkward and embarrassed.
Gary immediately turned around and looked out of the window. He spoke, as if nothing had happened, "Did all four of them leave just like that?"
"Yes, they did." Celeste paused and said, "You must be very tired after such a long journey. Why don't you head upstairs to rest?" "I'm not tired." He shook his head.
However, after he finished saying that, he froze.
He was well aware of the hidden meaning when he said that.
Back then, as long as he was not tired, the two of them would always be sticking together. However, when even after he said that he was not tired, he was not doing anything to her. When he thought about it, he realized that his words were full of suspicions.
Then, he looked towards Celeste again.
That time, he realized that Celeste had looked away too. They hardly looked at each other, and it was as if Celeste was also avoiding him.
He frowned.
His sharp eyes seemed to have discovered something, but he was not so sure of himself.
"Shall we go upstairs?" Gary suddenly asked.
Celeste stiffened, she was still shocked. She looked up at Gary and said, "You can go upstairs for a rest. I want to read for a while."
Gary could not help frowning. "What's the relation between reading books and not going upstairs? Why don't you read while I sleep? Won't that work?"
Celeste was stunned and she pursed her lips and said in an awkward way, "I am afraid that I will disturb your rest. I think it will be better for me to read downstairs. It is quieter here."
Gary could say for sure that Celeste was avoiding him. He immediately stood up and approached Celeste. He stood in front of her, squatted down and looked into her eyes as he said, "What's wrong? Tell me." "I am fine." Celeste immediately shook her head, the smile on her face was getting stiffer. "I am fine, I just want to read downstairs."
After hesitating for a while, Celeste then expressed her thoughts.
Gary's slender hand suddenly reached out and grabbed her chin. She was forced to look into his eyes.
He looked into Celeste's eyes and asked her carefully, "What happened after I left?"
"Nothing." Celeste was forced to face him, and she could only answer that way.
She could not tell Gary that she had received Janice's phone call, could she?
Up until then, Gary had yet to explain the purpose of him going to Boston, or the problems he was going to solve. Celeste could tell that things were not so simple. Moreover, after their reunion, his hug was filled with so much emotions, and he hugged her so tightly. The situation did not seem as optimistic as she thought it would be. She did not know what to say.
She had also made up her mind to not ask.
However, her heart was already in turmoil, and there were a lot of expressions which she could not suppress anymore. It was as if she was stuck in a puddle of mud where she was clueless, and she was so sad.
Gary stared at Celeste sharply. His handsome face drew closer, but his voice was still calm, "There is something on your mind."
"No, there isn't." Celeste denied.
Gary's hand then tightened immediately.
Celeste felt a slight pain on her chin. It was obvious that Gary did not realize he had exerted too much strength on while he held her chin.
Celeste frowned slightly, but she did not remind him. Instead, she only looked into his eyes calmly.
She whispered, "You said that there is something on my mind. Why does it feel like you are the one who has something on your mind instead?"
"Do I have something on my mind?" Gary's expression changed rapidly. If he still looked calm earlier, then at that moment, his expressions surely had stiffened.
"Yes, you seem a little worried." Celeste looked straight into Gary's eyes as she asked softly, "Did your trip to Boston not go smoothly? Or, were there things you didn't settle well?"
Gary suddenly released his grip on her.
He could not help but to avert his gaze from her, as he dared not look into her eyes anymore.
"No, my trip to Boston was smooth, and I have settled everything," Gary quickly spoke.
"Why are you hiding it from me?" Celeste suddenly sighed and said softly, "You look so depressed. Although you have been deliberately suppressing your emotions, I can still feel that your heart is not calm. Gary, is something wrong?"
Gary suddenly raised his eyes, he looked at Celeste once more.
Their eyes met, but the two of them remained silent.
They were silent for a few minutes. Only after that did Gary finally smile.
Gary suddenly changed the topic, his tone was much more relaxed than before. "It's nothing. We have already settled it. Celeste, let's have some fun. Let's go enjoy ourselves in places which we have never been to before. Let's have an unforgettable vacation, shall we?"
However, at that moment, the only words in
Celeste's mind were, "A break up trip."
She did not know if it was a wrong impression, or if she was just thinking too much.
All in all, Celeste had a very bad feeling about it.
Her mind and soul was in a state of chaos, and she felt really sad.
"Why are you suddenly suggesting this?" Celeste looked at him and asked.
"I just suddenly wanted to do it," Gary said.
"Anyway, where can we go during the Spring Festival?" Celeste asked. "Everyone is home during this period, but if we are going on a trip, don't you think it will be weird?"
"What's weird about that? We can just go and have fun if we want to," Gary said.
"I think it's better to stay home." Celeste shook her head. "We have plenty of time in the future if we want to go out, and there is no need for us to do it now."
