"I'm not sleepy." Celeste shook her head. "Are you done with your errands?"

Gary was stunned. "Errands? What are you referring to?"

"Didn't you go out to run errands?" asked Celeste.

Gary paused and realization flickered in his eyes. Then, he said, "It's nothing. You should go to bed, I'm gonna take a shower."

After he finished speaking, he walked into the bathroom, leaving Celeste alone with her thoughts.

Either way, he was home.

Celeste had been worried that he wouldn't be.

Fortunately, he was back, and all was well with the world.

After Gary showered and got changed, Celeste was already asleep.

On the other side of the bed, she had her back facing Gary and seemed to be deep in her slumber.

Gary paused for a moment before he sat down on the other side of the bed.

He gently dried his hair to not wake Celeste. Then, he turned the lights off and went to bed.

Celeste did not move at all, as if she were really asleep.

Gary made sure to not move under the blanket either. They were both tucked in snugly, but he felt as if there were oceans separating them. The distance between them was obvious. Gary laid on his back, staring blankly at the ceiling. He didn't know what to think.

He unknowingly fell asleep a while later only to replace Celeste gone when he woke up.

Gary touched her side of the bed with his fingers. The blankets were already cold. It seemed like Celeste had been up for a long time, and the sheets were folded neatly.

Gary got up to wash up before going downstairs.

It was already half past nine in the morning.

Downstairs, Grace sat on the sofa with Lowell next to her. The two seemed to be chatting about something, but Celeste was not around. Hence, Gary asked, "Mom, where's Celeste?" Grace shot her son a harsh look and said, "Shouldn't you know where she went?"

Gary was taken aback by her cold tone, and he pursed his lips before saying, "I was asleep." "Celeste said that you knew where she was going. She said she told you," Grace replied. After that, Grace resumed chatting with Lowell, ignoring Gary. She didn't even ask if he wanted to have breakfast.

Gary could not help but be suspicious over this. What was going on with his mother's sudden icy attitude?

Though Celeste said that she had already told him where she was going, he had no clue where she was. Nevertheless, he did not ask his mother and Lowell any more questions. Lowell was very worried about Gary and hurriedly told him, "Celeste said that she had gone out to meet a classmate from high school. She must've left a note, did you not see it when you woke up?" Gary was perplexed. High school classmate? Why did he have no recollection of this person?

Gary nodded and turned around to head upstairs.

He looked around the room carefully after he returned and discovered that there was a note tucked under a book.

Celeste had actually left him a note.

'Gary, I've gone out to see a classmate from high school. You were asleep, so I didn't want to wake you. Celeste.' A classmate from high school?

Gary frowned. He had no idea that Celeste was close with any of her high school friends. Who could it be?

Meanwhile, Celeste was meeting a female friend of hers from school at a dessert shop. They weren't really close while in school, but kept in touch with the occasional phone call or text. As time went by, they found that they had a lot in common.

That morning, her classmate had texted Celeste asking if she was in town, and Celeste answered in the affirmative. After that, she invited Celeste for a meet-up.

Celeste felt that life had been much too much of a bore as of late, and she needed to get out more. Hence, she agreed to the meet up.

At the dessert shop.

Celeste swiveled around as she looked for her classmate in the shop.

Suddenly, a voice rang out, "Celeste, Celeste!"

She immediately looked towards the window and saw a charmingly dressed girl sitting there, waving at her.

Celeste was astonished, and she couldn't really

believe that this girl was her classmate.

She looked at the girl carefully and confirmed that it was indeed her classmate, Florina Jennings.

It had only been a few years since they last met, but the change in Florina was shocking.

Florina was dressed beautifully, and

she looked very different from how

she did before. In high school,

Florina was more of a Plain Jane who dressed very simply.

However, the new Florina was a fashionable young woman.

She had flame- red lips, and her dark hair was scattered over her shoulders like wisps of seaweed.

She wore a tight skirt, which accentuated her hourglass figure. A silk sash was wrapped around her waist, and it complemented her devilishly good looks.

After the initial surprise, Celeste immediately walked over to Florina. She smiled at Florina and then sat opposite her.

Florina also observed Celeste, and her eyes were beaming with admiration. "Wow, Celeste. You're gorgeous."

"You too!" Celeste exclaimed sincerely. "I nearly

couldn't recognise you."

"All this is just makeup, but you are a natural beauty." Florina was very humble. She knew that she wasn't conventionally pretty, but she was definitely attractive in her own way. en.swhovels.net

Celeste chuckled and said, "You're just being modest."

"Okay, I'll stop doing that then." Florina chuckled. "What would you like to have?"

"Some milk tea, please," Celeste replied.

Soon, the tea was delivered and the two started chatting.

It wasn't awkward between them at all as Florina was a very talkative girl. There were no tense silences between them.

The two talked about their studies and how they had been recently.

Florina smiled and leaned in conspiratorially, "Hey, I heard that you and Gary Smith are dating. Is that true?"

Celeste was shocked, though this wasn't exactly something she could hide - it was on the news, after all.

However, the current situation was slightly complicated. She and Gary had already broken up.

What should she say in reply?

She wasn't that close to Florina, so spilling all her secrets was out of the question. Thus, she only gave her a small smile and nodded.

"That's amazing, Celeste. We always

thought Gary and Ernest treated you

differently from the rest. I never

expected you to actually win Gary's

attention. He's basically an ice king.

Go you!"

Florina's compliments were sincere, and she really thought Celeste was quite amazing.

Celeste's smile was stiff. After all, this was a very awkward situation. Her relationship with Gary was about to come to an end.

What was worse was that she couldn't tell anyone about this as it would cause a fuss.

She was stuck between a rock and a hard place.

"We're doing okay." Celeste smiled awkwardly.

Florina was very curious and asked, "Are you living with the Jones family now?"
