Sylvia thought it was impossible no matter how. She wasn't full of herself to believe that Kendrix would care so much for her.

After giving a rueful smile, she said, "Maybe you've made a mistake. Regardless of his feelings, it's his choice."

Hearing the disappointment in the young girl's tone, Claudia was surprised. "Have the two of you quarreled again?"

"No, we can't even start a quarrel." Sylvia gave a wry smile again. "You should know very well what your cousin is like; he won't quarrel with anyone but only give the silent treatment."

"Touche. You're really getting more and more familiar with him." Claudia burst into laughter. "Anyway, I'm still worried about him. Swilling is going to upset his stomach; he's been a martyr to gastric problems." Sylvia's heart skipped a beat.

It ached inexplicably.

"You know what? Forget it. You're still a kid. I shouldn't add to your worries by telling you this," Claudia said with a bitter smile. "Happy New Year and all the best with your studies."

"Okay, take care," Sylvia replied.

"Bye." Claudia hung up at that.

Tried as she might, Sylvia could not calm herself down after the call ended.

Flustered, she had an impulse to visit Kendrix.

She felt that she had to replace out if he was all right.

On the one hand, she was perturbed by Kendrix's health, but on the other, she wanted to verify whether Claudia's words were true.

After much deliberation, she still decided to go and take a look in the end and snuck out after a quick change.

She didn't ask the chauffeur to drive her this time but hailed a taxi outside, heading straight for the school apartment.

Only when she had arrived did she realize how impetuous she was.

However, since she was already here, she had to bite the bullet.

Plucking up her courage, Sylvia went straight to Kendrix's apartment and knocked on the door.

The door opened in two shakes.

Kendrix appeared at the door, his handsome face flushed. He reeked of alcohol, and Sylvia frowned as the smell wafted toward her.

"Why are you drinking?" Sylvia asked fretfully, "What happened?"

At the sight of her, Kendrix squinted and said coldly, "What are you doing here?"

Detecting the note of frostiness in his tone, Sylvia furrowed her brow again. Nonetheless, when she saw his reddened face and that he seemed despondent and impatient with her, she got curious. She wondered if his unusual behavior of imbibing had anything to do with her.

"I came to see you." She fixed her gaze at him without as much as a blink.

"You're not welcome here." Kendrix was ready to close the door.

But Sylvia managed to enter from under his arm.

Kendrix's brows locked into a deep furrow at that as he slammed the door shut.

Entering his unit, Sylvia found that the table was spotless, without any sign of food but a goblet and a half-full bottle of red wine.

Seeing such a scene, Sylvia quirked her brow. "What on earth happened to you? Why did you suddenly hit the bottle?"

"What does it have to do with you?" Kendrix asked apathetically.

Sylvia turned to look at him, saying word by word, "You tell me?"

Still frowning deeply, Kendrix made his way to the table, sat down, and continued swilling.

"You have to stop." Sylvia rushed over and grabbed his wrist to stop him from pouring himself more wine.

However, Kendrix quirked his eyebrow and stared at the hand grabbing his.

He stared at the hand with a fathomless gaze, motionless, looking deep in thought.

"Anyhow, you can't keep on

boozing. Sylvia put the bottle aside and lowered her head to look at him. "Although I don't know what left you in such a state, I won't let you drink anymore on my watch."

Kendrix shook his head slightly and closed his eyes, feeling a little dizzy.

From the looks of it, he was not a drinker, already a little tipsy after having half a bottle of red wine.

Sylvia discovered he had been behaving differently from his customary self.

He used to remain reticent at any time, but now, he had become visibly verbal.

If his health weren't bothering her, she would've wet her whistle with him and found out his feelings for her once and for all.

Their eyes met; Kendrix's face was flushed, and his eyes bloodshot, staring straight at Sylvia.

"Give me the wine," he growled.

"Forget it." Sylvia said again, "Drinking isn't a solution to the problem. What's bothering you that you have to do this to yourself?" "How does it concern you?" Kendrix asked.

"Does it then? You tell me." Sylvia mustered up all her courage, saying, "Can't you tell I'm worried about you?"

"I don't need your worry." Kendrix's

tone grew more impassive, seemingly laced with a hint of a fit of pique. Then he snorted with a note

of irony. "You should leave, Miss

Jones. Get out of my face.

"What's happened to you?" His words upset her, but she still tried to be patient and not to argue with him.

"Give me the wine." Kendrix raised his voice unconsciously, and his eyes seemed to be full of gloominess.

"Don't even think about it." Sylvia was never one to submit to authority anyway; there was no way she'd oblige at this time.

They looked at each other with sparkling chemistry in their eyes.

Kendrix raised his head, staring at

her as he smirked, saying, "Whata et

Isn't one man enough for you to nag at that you want to add me to the list as well?"

Stumped, it was only then she could clearly tell he was furious, and it probably had to do with her meeting with Chigo in the afternoon.

It seemed that he genuinely didn't like that Chigo had anything to do with her.

But why wouldn't he just say it aloud?

His tendency to bottle everything up made it difficult for her to guess what was in his mind.

She believed she wasn't capable of reading his mind.

"Are you drinking because of me?" Sylvia couldn't help but ask.

All he had to do was say yes, and she would be thrilled.

It would also boost her confidence.

However, Kendrix simply smirked and sniggered, hurting her to the core. "Because of you? Get over yourself." Sylvia blanched at that.

Yeah.

She was so conceited that she came on her own accord.

If it weren't, why would she come and embarrass herself?
