True Fated Marriage (Grace and Heinz) -
Chapter 528
"Two," Zachary answered.
Grace and Alice were stunned. Alice couldn't help but ask out of curiosity, "Then, who are these three people here?"
Zachary glanced at the photo and replied, "The three people here are the children of grandfather's first wife. There were three of them." Grace's heart suddenly sank.
So this was how the family was. Her grandmother had become the three children's stepmother and she even gave birth to two children herself.
"Then, who gave birth to you?" Alice immediately asked. "Are you the child of Grandma's son?"
Zachary looked at her and returned her question with another, "What do you think?"
Alice stared at him and then looked at Grace. She couldn't help but say, "If you truly are, then we'll continue this conversation. If you're the child of the stepchildren, then we can stop this conversation now. We're all busy people and we don't have to waste time here."
"Alice!" Grace stopped her with a low voice. How could this girl speak so bluntly?
Alice pouted. "Grace, why the need to be polite?"
Grace then looked back at Zachary.
He returned her gaze and raised an eyebrow. He
gave a soft smile as if he was waiting to see Grace's response..
Grace found that this man was amazing. With only one glance, he could see through someone.
Grace did not hold back and said, "If you're the stepchildren's child, there's nothing much to talk about anymore."
Zachary chuckled upon hearing this and replied cheerfully, "Alright. Both of your attitudes are interesting to me."
Grace and Alice exchanged glances and then looked back at Zachary.
Alice became impatient. "Can you answer us now? What's the matter?"
Zachary laughed slightly and replied, "Do you guys think that I'm the type of person who would call some random woman my grandmother?"
Both Grace and Alice's attitude weren't the kindest.
However, he was satisfied because they were true to themselves.
The both of them paused, then laughed.
"So you're my grandmother's biological grandson?"
Zachary nodded. "If we are not related by blood, I wouldn't have bothered to look for you to talk about Grandma. All these years, although our grandfather was egotistic and refused to admit that he missed Grandma, his heart still misses her. Otherwise, he wouldn't have remained single after Grandma left."
"Is he," Grace hesitated and then continued her question, "Is he still alive?"
Zachary nodded. "He's already eighty- nine years old."
"Ah, he's not dead yet?" Alice asked in astonishment. Zachary frowned.
Grace elbowed Alice under the table.
Alice squeezed out a smile and said, "What I meant was that it's amazing that he could live such a long life."
Zachary wasn't mad. Instead, he laughed and said, "You're probably mad at the fact that he isn't dead yet, but Grandma has passed away instead, right?"
Alice was embarrassed. Zachary could read whatever was on her mind.
She blushed in embarrassment.
He had exposed her evil thoughts.
Grace couldn't help but laugh as she said, "I'm sorry, forgive us for not being able to have any feelings for an old man who chased Grandma out into the streets. He is nobody to us."
Zachary stared into Grace's eyes calmly. After some time, he nodded.
"Your feelings are simple. Everyone is selfish in their own way. I understand that humans have their own principles," Zachary said.
Alice snapped, "But you don't."
Alice was bitter and sullen. "You guys wouldn't have been able to understand how tough Grandma had it by herself. In that era, who could understand how hard it was for a woman to take care of her children by herself?"
Zachary did not answer but listened quietly.
"Humph." The more Alice said, the more agitated she became. "This old man was the one who caused it. I can't even complain that he gets to live so long. Since they have been separated for decades, why the need to share the same burial plot as Grandma?"
"They weren't divorced," Zachary said. "By law, they are still husband and wife."
"What about the former wife of the Lowe Family?" Grace asked suddenly. "Is she also buried in the Lowe Family's ancestral tomb?"
Zachary looked up and stared into Grace's eyes. He nodded and said, "It's true that she died early. Grandma was our grandfather's second wife, and they rightfully got married back then. She should be buried in the Lowe Family's ancestral tomb."
"Since he already has his other wife, why the need to bring Grandma into the picture?" Grace said softly. "It hadn't been easy for us too, actually. Grandma was wandering from place to place for all these years, and nobody was around when she passed away. Instead, it was people who were not related to her who were by her side. Her ashes are still being kept outside."
"Truthfully, we've been looking for a cemetery to bury Grandma in. I was prepared to go visit Grandma today, but I didn't expect you to come."
"She hasn't been buried yet?" Zachery sounded a bit shocked.
Grace nodded, "It's my fault. I didn't take care of this matter well."
Zachary paused. "You don't have to apologize.
Everyone makes mistakes. I just hope that you would consider that, maybe this was Grandma's wish?"
"How is that possible?" Grace shook her head. "If Grandma wanted to return to Southland, she had a thousand opportunities to say or do so."
"Yes, I think so too." Alice chimed in. "Grandma had the opportunity to arrange for it, but she didn't in the end."
Zachary sighed slightly. "Even if that was the case, many people have had thousands of opportunities to say something, but they always swallow their words in the end. By the time they really want to say it, it is already too late."
Grace stiffened.
Zachary's words felt heavy in her heart. At that instance, she found it hard to breathe.
"But no one can confirm what she was thinking."
"Let's put it this way," Zachary said. "If we let her return to her ancestral tomb, you guys will definitely replace it hard to bury her together with our grandfather. However, what if we let her return to her son's side and sleep forever together with him? This request isn't too unreasonable."
Grace suddenly stood up and looked at him in shock. "D-do you mean your father?"
"He passed away five years ago," Zachary said in a deep voice. "I didn't have the ability five years ago, but now I do. I just want to help my father be buried together with his mother."
Grace's eyes teared up within seconds. She felt a
lump forming in her throat.
She swallowed with great difficulty as she looked at Zachary.
He remained calm.
He was the type of person whom others couldn't easily refuse.
It turned out that Grandma's son was gone, too.
Zachary must have gone through a tough time in the Lowe Family. It was definitely hard for him to have three step-siblings and a father who passed away so early.
