True Fated Marriage (Grace and Heinz) -
Chapter 572
The urn was still quietly placed next to Philip's photograph. She carefully looked at it, and a glimmer of light flashed in her eyes.
She stared at the urn for a long time. After thinking for a while, Grace quietly stepped out of the front hall.
She stood by the door and looked at the two groups of people from a distance, confronting each other.
The crowd was rowdy and it seemed that they were on the verge of breaking out into a fight.
The maids and bodyguards of the Lowe family were all dispatched and gathered in the front hall. However, they were outnumbered. It looked like a losing battle.
At this moment, Alice walked over with Little Gary and Ernest.
When Alice heard the quarrels coming from the entrance, she immediately said to Grace, "Grace, they really came for the ashes. Heinz, Zachary, and you have seen it coming. What should we do now? Should I quickly hide the ashes?"
Alice spoke as she rushed into the house, but Grace grabbed her wrist and uttered, "Don't worry."
"They are already at the door. How can I not worry?" Alice was very apprehensive as she asked, "What should we do if they take it away?"
"They can't take away the ashes from us." Grace said firmly, "Zachary has made preparations."
Alice was stunned. "Preparations? What is it?"
"Just listen to me. We need to take the children with us," Grace replied.
Alice looked at Grace in surprise. She had always trusted her sister, so Grace must have her own reasons for saying this.
"Okay, I'll listen to you." Alice did not insist anymore.
Nerissa had also walked up to them in a hurry. She appeared to be very calm in the face of danger.
Grace watched as Nerissa approached the door, glaring at that group of people while yelling, "Who are you people? How dare you trespass my private property?"
"Madam Nerissa." The burly man in the lead, Brock, was quite respectful to Nerissa as he responded, "We've come here on Master Lowe's orders to collect Mrs. Lowe's ashes. Please make way and hand it over."
"Collect?" Nerissa smiled softly and said sarcastically, "I think you are here to snatch the ashes from us, not to collect it."
"Yes, Madam Nerissa. If you don't hand it over, well have to snatch it from you." Brock was not polite in the slightest and he threatened her directly.
Nerissa frowned and spoke calmly, "Mrs. Lowe's ashes have been buried in the ancestral tomb of the Lowe family. Go back to your Master and tell him that we don't have her ashes here. If he misses Mrs. Lowe, he can visit the cemetery to mourn, instead of coming here and making a scene."
Nerissa's words were neither fast nor slow. They were so sonorous and forceful that everyone was stunned at once.
Nonetheless, Brock came to his senses and said, "Madam Nerissa, we are not looking for the Mrs. Lowe you mentioned, but another Mrs. Lowe who left the Lowe family for fifty years."
Nerissa frowned again. "Your words are really incomprehensible. Mrs. Lowe, who has disappeared for fifty years, has no relationship with Master Lowe anymore. He even came here personally and told us everything clearly. Aren't you afraid that he is old and muddle-headed that he can't remember things and gave an unreasonable order?"
"Madam Nerissa, please don't make things difficult for us."
"I'm not. It's you who are making things difficult for me!" Nerissa retorted in a low voice, "You can't fight over the ashes so shamelessly. Don't cross the line."
"Master Lowe said that we must obtain these ashes no matter what." Brock peered at Nerissa and answered, "This time, you have to give it to us even if you don't want to."
That won't happen," Nerissa refused coldly.
Grace could tell that she was getting really angry.
"Brothers, since Madam Nerissa is not willing to cooperate, we don't need to be polite any longer. Let's break in. Anyone who gets their hands on the ashes first will be heavily rewarded!"
Upon Brock's order, the group of people began to go wild and barged straight in.
"Oh, no." Grace immediately ushered, "Alice, take the children to the side hall."
Alice wasted no time to pull Little Gary and Ernest away.
Little Gary spoke up, "Little Aunt, it's so rowdy. I want to watch. Let me stay, please?"
"What is there to watch?" Alice said sternly, "Little Gary, now is not the time. Listen carefully, curiosity killed the cat. Behave yourself."
Alice then proceeded to drag both Little Gary and Ernest back to the side hall. They closed the door and leaned against the window sill to watch the commotion.
In the interim, Grace hastily went towards Nerissa. She came to Nerissa's side and reached out to take her arm. "Aunt Nerissa."
Nerissa was slightly taken aback by Grace's appearance. She turned to look at Grace and urged, "Hurry, hide and take good care of the children. You can't be here, or you'll get hurt if caught in the crossfire." Grace felt warm in her heart as she felt the elder's concern and care. She replied warmly, "Aunt Nerissa, I have asked Alice to take Little Gary and Ernest to the side hall. Please don't stay here either." The two groups of people had already started to fight, and it was brutal.
Grace was worried that Nerissa would be dragged into the brawl. It was too dangerous as she could be easily hurt.
Thus, she held Nerissa's arm and was about to
leave.
Nerissa shook her head and insisted, "Grace, I can't leave. They are bullying us. If I leave, they will really take away your grandma's ashes."
"They won't be able to take it away."
Nerissa was puzzled and asked, "What do you mean?"
After nodding her head, Grace leaned forward and whispered something into Nerissa's ear.
The next second, Nerissa was astonished and her eyes lit up. "Really?"
Grace nodded as she affirmed, "Yes."
Nerissa then thought for a moment before saying, "Okay, that's good."
"Let's go to the front hall first," Grace said. "They'll be here soon. Aunt Nerissa, I need your help to put on a show for me. Otherwise, they'll suspect something is wrong."
"Okay." Nerissa nodded. "Come on, let's go in."
Soon, the two of them entered the front hall.
As soon as they stepped foot in, two opponents broke into the house. At a glance, they saw Philip's coffin portrait and were equally caught off guard.
After that, when they spotted the urn placed next to the portrait, one of them immediately pointed at it and exclaimed, "It's over here! Master Lowe said that it's next to the portrait. He was right!" They promptly galloped in and ran to the portrait.
"Stop!" Grace roared.
Nerissa also snapped in infuriation, "How bold of you! Fine. Touch the urn if you are not afraid of offending the dead. However, I will make sure you suffer if you dare harm the head of our family." "Madam Nerissa, we're sorry, but we have no choice. None of us dares to disobey Master Lower's orders."
While speaking, the men didn't pay attention to Grace nor Nerissa. They simply went straight to the urn and picked it up quickly.
Grace dashed forward to stop them. "You can't take away Grandma's ashes. Put it down!"
"The shameless old man has no right to take it away." Grace's eyes were fiery like burning torches as she seethed with hatred, "Whether dead or alive, he has failed to live up to Grandma. He has no right!"
