Heinz's face darkened.

He had never seen such an old man who was so thick-skinned over what he had done before.

He said in a low voice, "Do you think that everyone will forgive you if you admit your mistakes like this?"

At least he felt that his mother, who left with a grudge, would not forgive the man in front of him.

To him, Lawrence was the one who brought misfortune to his mother's life, causing her to pass away early.

"No, you are wrong. I never want to ask forgiveness from anybody. I have already thought of the consequences when I do anything," Lawrence said calmly.

"You're really thick-skinned!" Heinz shouted. He turned his face away and took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down.

He was ashamed of himself for being too soft-hearted just now, because he thought that his old man had turned over a new leaf.

How could someone like him admit his mistake?

Would he truly bear his responsibility?

So all of it was just his own fantasy. Heinz felt he was too childish.

Lawrence raised his head and said, "I admit that I am indeed a little shameless! It was my blatant attempt to marry your mother, not because I loved her, but due to her family background." Heinz frowned and glowered at him.

He continued to say candidly, "You are also aware of your grandfather's power. Actually, I was under some pressure to marry your mother and I haven't been in love with her all these years." "Why did you marry her if you don't love her at all? What you're saying now is nothing more than shirking your responsibility!"

Lawrence replied in a low voice, "If you think so, I won't disagree with you. I'm not here to quarrel with you. Instead, I just want to let you know how I felt during these years."

"What makes you think that I'm willing to listen to your feelings? No matter how you feel, it's all your own fault. What does it have to do with me?"

Lawrence nodded and was not discouraged. He looked at Heinz and said lightly, "Well, it's my own fault. As soon as I married your mother, people started gossiping about me. Everyone thought that I was protected by your grandfather. I admit that I felt stripped of all my dignity as a man when I married her."

"If it was wrong, then everything was wrong from the beginning. It was my blatant attempt to gain your grandfather's influence when I married her. That was why I was doomed to be unhappy throughout my life. Your mother also led a miserable life because of me, and then you were affected too."

"It makes you feel that life is terrible."

"But I thought you have experienced a failed marriage too. The marriage between you and Jodie should help you realize that sometimes love and marriage can't be fulfilled at the same time."

"To me, it should be for love that you married Jodie, but you didn't lead a happy life afterward. In fact, you two broke up eventually, so I think you should be able to understand me."

Heinz was dumbfounded for a moment. He thought that his father was really detestable.

It pierced his heart when his father brought up his and Jodie's past.

Even if Lawrence was right and his marriage with Jodie had indeed failed, it was not appropriate for a father to use it against his son.

Heinz said coldly, "Jodie and I are different from you and my mother. First of all, I have never wanted anything from her family, and you know her family background, so I was not under any pressure when I married her."

"Secondly, Jodie cheated and she had a big problem herself. Of course, I am not shirking my responsibility, but we were both responsible for our marriage, which ended prematurely. From the very beginning, I was aware of the mistake of getting married, hence I decided to divorce her as early as I could. However, you are different because you yearned for the advantages that you could gain from my mother's family, and you gave birth to me, yet you don't want to be responsible. You were very indifferent to my mother, causing her to suffer from depression in her final moments of life. You are very cruel!" Lawrence said in a low voice, "Son, aren't you cruel? Do you think you had any affection for Jodie? I'm not arguing with you and I won't condemn you. I'm just talking about facts." "You were not fair to Jodie either, thus we are the same kind of people."

"Perhaps you did it better than me, but we are the same cold-blooded men."

"Think about yourself. Do you really treat Grace well? If it's the case, then why did she give birth to two children before marriage? How could you let her end up in that state?" "You're not a flawless person, not a saint, therefore I hope you can understand that we make mistakes and we can't do everything perfectly."

Heinz sneered and asked apathetically, "What on earth are you trying to say? Tell me a long story about your life to vindicate yourself?"

Lawrence looked at him and sighed unemotionally. He said, "Maybe it's because I have reached an old age that I have a new understanding of life. I feel that there isn't much time left in my life and I just want to be with my family. People would probably become vulnerable and nostalgic when they get old. You are my son and I will miss you from time to time. I would be sentimental whenever I think about you when you were a young kid."

Heinz gave a snort. He deeply understood that the reason his father had not mentioned Lowell's background by now was to wind Grace and him around his finger.

Ironically, Lawrence and Candace were really a perfect match for each other. Both of them wanted to scheme against him and Grace.

Heinz was not an inhumane person. He would not use an innocent child to go against his father.

Although his father was ruthless, it was still not enough to make him use Lowell as a bargaining chip to fight back.

That was very unfair to the kid.

Heinz looked at him with a sardonic smile and said, "Do you want to enjoy family affection?"

Lawrence nodded and said, "Yes! I'm also a man with feelings. Of course, I long for family love."

Heinz chuckled and said, "Well, why don't you try to have another child?"

Lawrence suddenly froze and he looked at him, a little shocked.

Heinz looked at his father with a faint smile on his face. He didn't show that he knew everything. He just said sarcastically, "If you crave family love, you'd better replace a young woman to bear a son for you, so that you can enjoy the love of family."

Heinz's words seemed to signify something. Lawrence paused for a while when he heard it. After that, he looked at Heinz carefully, hoping to discover some emotions through his eyes.

Heinz continued, "Look for eight or ten women and have a child with every one of them. Perhaps you should start with your new wife. Have a child with her and then you can enjoy your so-called 'family love'. That would be a good starting point for you."
