True Fated Marriage (Grace and Heinz) -
Chapter 858
Ten o'clock in the morning.
Grace and Alice went to the hospital again.
When they arrived, Grace asked Alex at the door, "How is the situation?"
"She slept well last night." Alex reported in all honesty, "It must have been due to the painkiller shot that was administered yesterday. The doctor said the same when he came in to check. Madam Lowe looks quite the energetic one today."
"Thank goodness!" Grace nodded. She turned to Alice and said, "Alice, could you wait here for a while? I'll go in and take a look at her."
Alice was conflicted by her feelings of worry and disgust for Candace. She wanted to see her, but she didn't know how to face her.
She nodded. "Go in, Grace. I'll wait for you here."
In a haste, Grace pushed the door open, went in, and happened to see Candace reading a note.
Candace was startled when she heard the sound and looked up in a panic. As soon as she saw someone walking, she clenched the note in her hand and quietly stared at Grace who was standing by the door.
Grace knew that she had found the note.
Unperturbed, Grace walked in. She went to Candace's bed and moved a chair to sit beside her.
They beheld each other, not a word exchanged, face to face.
Candace frowned and said impatiently, "What are you doing here again? Haven't I made it clear that I don't want to see you anymore? Why are you still here?"
"I'm here to visit you. This world does not hinge on what you say. You can only decide on your own thoughts, never other people's." Grace did not let Candace's vindictive words get to her. She just looked at her and said lightly, "You don't have much time left in life. You don't have to spite me like this. I don't mind what you did before, but why do you have to speak to me this way? Isn't it better to cherish what little time we have left?"
Candace hummed coldly. "I am enjoying my last moments and will be elated as long as you don't show your face. But once you are here, it ruins my mood."
Grace smiled and said nothing. Looking at Candace, she felt that Candace might really be in better spirits thanks to her good night's slumber. Her face looked much calmer at least. Grace looked at her unfazed, without saying a word.
This made Candace a little uncomfortable. She frowned and looked at her, sarcasm on her face. "Why don't you cut to the chase?"
"Why are you so sensitive? You act as though you have done something wrong. Escaping doesn't solve any problems. I'm only here to see you, end of story."
"I don't need you to visit me, and I don't want you to see me. You'd better leave now." Candace, ever the uncharitable person toward Grace, made it obvious that patience was not her virtue. Grace knew that she really didn't want to see her. Perhaps Candace's mood was ruined from reading the note. As for the so-called "operation two days later", Grace still hadn't figured out what that was. She came to replace out what was going on, but it seemed that Candace was edgy. Obviously, she didn't want her to stay here.
Grace felt that Candace wanted to plan something on her own and did not tolerate the slightest of disturbance.
She trained her gaze on Candace and smiled slightly, looking confident, as if everything was under control.
Candace froze in an instant, as though her entire being was being made into an ice sculpture. Her eyes were lined with suspicion as she wondered why Grace was looking at her with such eyes. "What are you looking at?" Candace asked.
"You!" Grace admitted, "Wondering what you are thinking about and what you will try to pull in your numbered days."
Candace frowned as she looked into Grace's eyes, irritated. "Are you mocking me? I'm bedridden, what else can I do?"
"Nah." Grace shook her head and said, "Sometimes, for people who may seem disabled, the harm they are capable of causing is beyond comprehension. You know very well what you can do, and I'm trying to figure out what you can do in your remaining days."
Underlying meanings lurked around in all of Grace's words.
And of course, Candace could tell, making her utterly shocked. She frowned and looked at Grace with a puzzled stare. Why was she looking at her this way? Did Grace take hold of something? Grace was still looking at her with a smile.
Candace's hands under the bed were a little stiff. She was clenching her fists, and her fingers were white. Candace wanted to sit up, but she was at the mercy of her weakened state.
Grace looked at her and flashed another smile. She said, "Let me accompany you tonight. I don't have anything to do."
"Not a chance!" Candace refused at once. "I don't need you to accompany me, so don't show your face here. I have said it before, that I don't want to see you anymore even after I've died." "Don't you want to see your son Lowell?" Grace asked with a grin.
"Where is Lowell? Where is my son?" Candace was a little flustered.
Grace raised her eyebrows and said with a slight smile, "Shouldn't we ask you, his mother, the whereabouts of Lowell? Why are you asking me? He is your son, not mine. Does that sound about right?" "You are threatening me. What do you actually want? Can't you get straight to the point?" Candace hissed in a low voice.
"Between the two of us, who, actually, is not frank enough?" Grace asked rhetorically.
Candace stuttered, not a word formed.
"It seems that you have not been honest all this while." Grace said, "You are hiding a big secret and messing with me. You take Heinz and I for a fool, don't you?"
"I don't understand what you are talking about!" Candace whipped her face to the side, a worrisome and suspicious stark on it.
Grace smiled gently and said, "It's fine if you don't understand it, but I will transfer you to be treated in a different hospital tonight. I will lock you up and keep you hidden from the world."
Upon hearing this, Candace's gaze was fixated, her eyes not blinking for a long time, as if she had heard the most horrible news. She gaped at Grace and asked, "What do you mean?" "It doesn't mean anything. Just in case!" Grace stood up and paced back and forth. She didn't look at Candace anymore. She was just walking back and forth in the ward.
However, every footstep Grace took was as if she was stepping on a crater in Candace's heart. Candace stayed rooted for a long time. "Grace!" Candace said, "You can transfer me to a different hospital, since I want nothing more than that. Anyway, I have done enough here."
"Are you going to provoke me?" Grace turned to look at Candace and said with a sly smile, "Don't provoke me. It doesn't work."
Candace was stunned, her eyes filled with terror. Though she wasn't sure if Grace had found anything out, she could feel that her behavior was not baseless.
"Are you transferring me to a different hospital or not?" Candace wanted to hear the truth because she didn't know when Lawrence would come. If she was transferred to another hospital and Lawrence had been discovered, what would she do?
