True Fated Marriage (Grace and Heinz) -
Chapter 958 Frustrations
Grace was taken aback. "Wouldn't this mean that I did not keep my word? I'd be going back on what I said."
She was only worried about Alice's safety when she made her promise. As long as Alice was safe and sound, she was willing to compromise for everything else.
Now that Jensen said this, Grace knew that he was being rational. He was a policeman and it was only right for him to do so.
This was his duty.
However, she had promised Xavier to persuade them not to pursue this matter. What should she do now?
Jensen looked at her and said, "Grace, I understand what you mean. At that time, you had no choice but to agree to his request. If you didn't, Alice wouldn't be safe. It's just a matter of time." "But if you arrest him, wouldn't it contradict our future plans?" Grace said, "I know that he has taken extreme measures to stand up for Marry, but he did not harm Alice. That was why I felt that we could talk things out."
"No." Jensen was very persistent. "Grace, if we let them go this time, they might think that we are afraid of them. What if they strike again?"
For a moment, Grace did not know what to do.
She hesitated as well before replying, "But, I... I promised him. You see, he also kept his promise. He released Alice and dropped her off at our gate. Otherwise, he might have really kidnapped her and used her to threaten us. If so, he wouldn't send her back so soon."
"Grace." Heinz spoke, "Listen to me. I agree that Jensen is being very reasonable. We can't be too tolerant. If we treat this kind of behavior too leniently, they will only take advantage of us in the future." "Heinz, Alice is my sister. I care more about her safety than anyone else. I know Jensen is just doing his job and I fully understand that, but I have promised Xavier. I hope that you will not arrest him before anything bad happens to either one of us." Grace was a little anxious as she requested, "You'd better tell your men to stop now."
As soon as Jensen was about to speak, his phone suddenly rang.
He answered the phone.
"Boss, we've arrested Xavier."
Jensen immediately said, "Okay, I'll come over now. I want to interrogate him myself."
"Yes sir!"
Grace felt her heart skip a beat. "They caught him?"
"Yes." Jensen decided not to conceal the truth.
After thinking for a while, Grace looked at Alice and asked, "Alice, what do you think?"
Alice hesitated for a moment, then pursed her lips and responded, "I think Jensen is right."
This time, she was on Jensen's side. She told Grace, "In fact, even if we let him go, Marry might still cause trouble for us as she will be released soon. It seems that they are well-prepared, and we have no idea what they have up their sleeves."
Grace did not expect Alice to agree. She glanced at Heinz suspiciously, and then at both Jensen and Alice. She couldn't help but wonder if she was worrying over nothing.
However, she still felt that she should keep her promise.
"I'll be off now." Jensen said to Alice, "Stay here and get some rest. Do not go anywhere for the time being."
"Okay." Alice nodded and ushered, "You should go."
Then, Jensen left.
Grace and Heinz also decided to let Alice rest before they went back to their room.
The moment they returned to the room, Grace asked Heinz, "Heinz, do you think that I was wrong for wanting to keep my promise?"
"No." Heinz shook his head. "You were right. You made a promise and you should follow through."
"I know what you mean. Jensen is also right. It's his duty." Grace reasoned, "However, I am afraid that Xavier would retaliate because I promised him on your behalf that we would not pursue this matter. In the end, I broke my promise."
Grace wanted to keep her promise, but it turned out that Jensen had already sent his men to arrest Xavier.
Hence, she was very worried at the moment.
Heinz said, "Grace, Jensen's worried that they'll retaliate against us, that's why he insists on arresting him."
"Then, would they be able to arrest Miranda?" Grace asked, "Now you only have very sparse evidence to prove that Xavier was the kidnapper, but you can't prove anything else. We all know that Miranda must have a great relationship with Xavier. Maybe it was Miranda who gave the order, but there is no evidence. We can only assume." "Even so, we have to arrest him. We have to stop
Miranda's right-hand man. That's the only way to ensure our safety."
"Yes, I want us to be safe too, but now that we have this problem, I don't feel safe at all. On the contrary, dangers are lurking everywhere. Almost everyone can hurt us whenever they want to."
"Heinz, I can't afford to lose and I'm afraid. I don't want to lose my sister, my son, or any of my family members. Do you understand?"
"Do you understand my fear?"
"I understand, Grace." Heinz assured her, "Leave it to us."
After pondering for a while, she took a deep breath and continued, "I trusted you, and that was the reason my mother died. Not only that but she died in such a tragic way. I also trusted you and Jensen, and ye Alice was kidnapped."
In an instant, the color drained from Heinz's face.
His complexion was as white as a sheet.
He stared at Grace with widened eyes, and they were filled with shock.
When Grace realized what she had said, she felt somewhat embarrassed. She paused for a while before pursing her lips, saying, "I'm sorry. I know it was not your fault. I'm just too worried." Heinz did not say anything.
Grace raised her eyes and saw that his face was pale, and then she was even more ashamed.
She realized that her words had hurt him.
"Heinz, I..."
Heinz shook his head and interrupted her, "You should get some rest. I'll be in the study."
After that, he turned around and left very quickly while Grace remained stunned.
When the door was closed, Grace suddenly felt that the room was a little too quiet. She frowned anxiously and thought to herself, "Was I wrong?"
There were thousands of questions running through her head. She lay down on the bed but she did not feel sleepy at all.
Meanwhile, when Heinz arrived at the study, he immediately took out a cigarette and lighted it. Then, he sat down and smoked the cigarette before puffing out the smoke. He felt utterly depressed.
He held a unshirkable responsibility for Candace's death.
Now that Grace had mentioned it, he knew that she did mind that he was partly to blame for Candace's death.
Frankly, he did not handle it well. He started to have doubts about arresting Xavier as he had no idea whether it was the right decision or not.
Deep down, Grace must be very upset. She had become someone who went against her word. Nonetheless, no one could understand her as they stuck to their point of view.
As her husband, he did not fully support her thoughts and it prevented her from fully processing her worries and doubts.
Thinking of this, Heinz rubbed the space between his eyebrows while his heart was filled with helplessness and frustration.
