Twice Rejected -
Chapter 28
Koko POV
My eyes slowly opened to bright light. Was I already dead? Was I with the moon goddess right now? I was happy, yet disappointed. I still wanted to be alive and perhaps meet that special someone those people had been telling me about.
I wanted to get to the human realm, to know if they’d accept me, or think I was a witch still. Maybe the witch’s realm would accept me as one of them, but now the moon goddess took that chance from me.
Feeling my body in soft cozy clothing, the light was still too bright on my eyes so I used my hands to cover my face so I could slowly adjust to the light.
With my hands still on my face, I smelled an alluring scent all around the place I was in. Was this the moon goddess scent? It was so alluring!
And just as I wanted to open my eyes, I felt heavy footsteps moving away and at the same time, the scent seemed to go with it. I opened my eyes to stop whoever it was from leaving.
But sadly, I saw no one.
Feeling disappointed at not seeing the person, my eyes roamed around and It seemed I was in a room with white curtains and designs all over the wall. It looked more like the room of someone important. Did the goddess bring me to her house?
As I was glancing around, I saw an IV stand with an empty bag of drip hung on it. I looked down to see plaster on my hand.
It seemed I wasn’t dead after all, but I was in a hospital? I only remembered having a piercing pain before passing out. And that scent…I think I smelled it too before I fainted.
I was already feeling sleepy again. It seems like my body was still too weak from the attack I received. And besides, I was lying in a comfortable bed, which would likely induce sleepiness.
The last time I laid on something comfortable like this, was when I was being taken care of before my sister’s surgery.
I was still feeling weak and my eyes were still drowsy.
Within a few minutes, I had already drifted to sleep. I didn’t dream at all but I was sure it would have been happy dreams.
******************
It’s been seven days since I was admitted to the hospital. I was being attended to by a gorgeous lady who claimed to be the sister of the man who shot me.
He happened to be the alpha of the pack and according to his sister, Laci, he rushed over to help out in one of the districts under him. They were being attacked by vicious rogues led by one of his enemies.
It seemed the war took much longer than expected. He was supposed to have returned earlier.
Since that night I felt his aura, I hadn’t seen him, but I must say that Laci never left my side. She was always feeding me almost every hour. According to her, she wanted to be handsomely rewarded by her brother.
But I knew that she had a good spirit. She wasn’t doing it because of the reward but because she truly cared about me.
“What’s taking long for the alpha to come back from the battle?” I asked her.
I wanted to see him and thank him before leaving the pack as soon as I could. I didn’t want him to have issues with his mother or his pack members because of me.
“Are you missing him already?” Laci teased me.
My face was all red. “Heyyyyyyy! Stop teasing me. How can I miss someone I don’t even know? My wolf haven’t even acknowledged him.”
“That’s because you fainted before he got to you. If you hadn’t, I bet your wolf would have called out to him without thinking twice. My brother is very handsome.”
Just as I wanted to respond to her, I felt a sharp pain in my chest. It was so excruciating that I cried out in agony. Laci immediately held my hand anxiously.
“What is wrong, Koko?”
I couldn’t reply, as I was in pain. My wolf that had been silent all these years suddenly spoke up in a powerful tone, inside my head. She didn’t just speak out but she spoke out with power radiating all over.
I was shocked at the tone of her voice and the powerful aura that began to flow all over my body. It was like I was a new person. More like a rebirth of something powerful.
I could feel it.
Though I was feeling powerful, my heart was filled with anguish. There was a kind of foreign pain boring through my chest as it spread all over my body. My wolf was urging me in my head.
“You are scaring me, Koko!” Laci said, almost bursting into tears.
I turned to her as I enunciated every word that my wolf had told me in my head. Though I was surprised at my wolf’s words, I still had no time to think about it.
My eyes turned from their usual color to a deep molten lava red color.
“Your brother is in trouble. He is in pain. I need to go to him.”
I wasn’t thinking straight, but all I knew was that I had to get to him as soon as possible.
I watched as Laci’s face became pale when she heard her brother was in trouble. Maybe I shouldn’t have said it out loud to her.
I wanted to talk to her more and pacify her if possible, but my wolf was urging me to leave as soon as I could.
I got out of bed without thinking of anything else. I had to leave this hospital as soon as I could. I couldn’t waste any more time here. I started walking towards the door, but I was stopped by Laci’s voice.
“Where are you going, Koko?” Laci asked as I made my way to the door.
“I am going to meet your brother.” I simply answer.
Even though I was baffled at what I was doing, I just couldn’t help it. It seemed my wolf was taking control over my body though I was still in my human form.
“Are you going to meet my brother in the war?” Laci asked, wide-eyed. She quickly held me tightly in a firm grip.
“Yes. Your brother needs help. I need to help him.” I said, trying to get off her grip.
“Koko, I will not allow you to step out of this hospital. If anything happens to you, my brother will kill me!” Laci said, looking horrified and adamant.
“Laci, nothing will happen to me. I promise I will be back before you know it.” I tried to convince her or was it my wolf who was doing the talking?
“No, I won’t let you take a single step out of this room. I promised my brother to take care of you till he comes back. Don’t worry about my brother. He has so many people protecting him already. His beta and all his warriors are there just to protect him.” Laci said.
I sighed frustratedly. I knew she wasn’t going to let me out of this hospital. I wonder how I was going to leave here without her knowing.
“Laci, just trust me okay?” I tried to convince her once again.
“Nope. I am not allowing you to leave here. I am keeping guard over you.” Laci said, leading me to the bed.
I allowed her to tuck me back into the bed while my head thinking of ways to get out of the hospital. I acted as though I had forgotten about my initial thoughts.
“Just stay here, Koko. My brother would be back before you know it. Okay?” She said, forcing a smile.
I nodded my head obediently before closing my eyes. I waited for another twenty minutes before putting my plan into action.
“Laci, I am feeling hungry. Can you get me something to eat?” I asked, timidly.
Laci, who didn’t suspect what I was planning, immediately nodded her head with a smile.” Sure, Koko. It seems you are getting your appetite back. What do you want to eat?”
“Just buy me my favorite Mackerel and spaghetti with assorted sauce. You can eat lots of fried shrimp too. And crabs and…”
” Alright. I understand what you want perfectly. You are craving the meal I brought you that first day, right? You couldn’t eat much because of those women and my mother. Don’t worry, I will get you everything on the menu.” Laci said, smiling.
“Yes. I really couldn’t eat much that day and I started craving it.” I agreed with her.
She took her bag and took one last look at me to make sure that I was alright.” Are you sure you are fine alone? Should I call a servant over? It might take a while before I would be back.”
“I am fine, Laci. I will just lie on the bed till you come back. I am feeling sleepy already.” I said, yawning loudly.
“Alright then. I will be back soon.” She said and left.
As soon as Laci left the room, I planned for my escape!
As soon as Laci left the room, I went over to the window. I looked down to see how far it was from the ground. I noticed it should be about a five-story building from my room.
“Just jump from the window, Koko,” my wolf told me.
“Are you crazy? Do you want us to die?” I screamed at her.
“Trust me, Koko. You won’t die.” She said, trying to reassure me.
“No way, wolf. I might be suffering, but I am not ready to die. Not especially now that I already made good friends. I thought you said you wanted to save our mate? If I jump down from this window, I won’t be saving our mate, but I will probably be the one battling to be saved! No, thank you.” I refused as I made my way out of the suite.
Luckily for me, there were no guards at the entrance of the suite. That was a relief though. I was thinking it was heavily guarded. It seemed they believe I won’t escape from the hospital.
I snapped out of my thoughts as I quickly left the ward trying to avoid the nurses and doctors that had been taking care of me all these days. If I made the mistake of running into them, I believe I would be back in my room within a few seconds.
Fortunately I successfully left the hospital without being spotted by anyone. I ran through the woods without stopping. It was surprising how energetic I had become.
Although I didn’t have any idea of where I was going, I followed the scent of my mate. I had been perceiving the scent since I felt the pain in my chest.
I had been running for more than three hours non-stop. I don’t know the exact province he was fighting the war, but I could feel his scent getting stronger. It seemed he was here somewhere. It wasn’t too far from where I was.
“I am getting exhausted, wolf. I can’t believe I just ran more than three hours without making a stop. I didn’t know I possess such stamina. Was it because of you? It seems you are getting stronger.” I said to my wolf who was still anxious.
“I guess. I just want our mate to be safe.” she replied.
” But I also want to agree with Laci. Don’t you think it’s pointless? I think he must have his warriors and beta by his side. Going there will only make it inconvenient for him.” I tried to discourage her.
“Just trust me, Koko. We will never be a burden to him over there, I swear. I just want to help him, that’s all.” she replied.
“Alright. I will trust you on this one.” I said.
After a few minutes of running, my mate’s scent became even more distinct. I knew he was certainly around the area. But I didn’t know the exact place.
“Let’s go through that boundary. His scent is coming from that direction.” my wolf said.
I nodded in agreement. I also felt it coming strongest from the same direction. I began running towards the place.
As I got nearer, I started hearing cries of battle and sounds of snapping and tearing of skins. I could feel the intensity of the battle.
I went closer towards the battlefield and I saw that although my mate’s people were fighting off the enemy, there seemed to be more casualty.
My wolf howled in my head about taking over. I didn’t want to risk it. I knew she was a feeble wolf who was even smaller than a baby goat. What would she do in a battle like this?
I really didn’t want to risk, it but my wolf was adamant about coming out. Actually, there was this powerful feel I had been having since she spoke up at the hospital. But, I don’t know if I was just hallucinating or what.
“Promise me you will be safe, wolf.” I said, worriedly.
” I will be safe, Koko,” she said.
And before I could see anything further, I had transformed into my wolf. I looked at my furs and noticed it was an all-white color without even a spec of a dark or grey.
I looked bigger and stronger. In fact, my wolf could be mistaken for an alpha wolf. Just as I was contemplating what to do next, I saw my mate.
He was fighting fearlessly as every punch or hit landed the victim unconscious. He was fighting in his human form while most of his men were in their wolf form.
As I was admiring my mate, I saw a wolf sneaking on my mate.
If he could succeed in getting him, it would be a fatal blow to him.
Without wasting a second, I rushed into the battle ground. I was slashing and knocking out anyone on my path. I headed straight to the wolf behind my mate and knocked him off with a hit from my head.
The wolf instantly fell unconscious or dead, I guess.
I saw my mate’s surprised look as he moved closer to my wolf form. Stretching out his hands, he said the word I hated to hear, but it sounded so refreshing coming from him.
“Mate!”
