Twice Rejected
Chapter 31

Koko POV

I woke up early the next morning, not wanting to be seen by my mate who I just had a steamy night with.

I snuck quietly out of the bed, looking around for my clothes they gave me to change into, after I morphed back to my human form. I saw them strewn on the ground. Luckily, they weren’t torn to shreds during our passionate lovemaking.

I quickly but silently put on my clothes. I tiptoed to where my mate laid, to admire his sleeping face.

He had the perfect oval-shaped face, with high cheekbones and eyebrows as thick as a woman’s. I could see the radiance in those succulent skin of his. He was just too handsome to be described in words.

He looked more like a woman, if not for his masculine chest and a well-curved beard that made him look so tempting.

His luscious lips looked inviting even as he was sleeping peacefully. Was he my mate? I stretched myself a little so I could plant a k!ss on those lips before leaving.

After stealing a morning k!ss from him, I quickly changed into my wolf form and ran out of the palace without being noticed by anyone.

I don’t know how my wolf did it, but she seemed perfect in escaping unnoticed.

When I got to the hospital, I changed into my human form. I quickly put on the clothes I had been holding with my mouth.

I snuck into my ward and laid on the bed. It seemed Laci wasn’t around. I knew I was in for a good lecture once she came around.

Before I could close my eyes, I heard her crispy voice from the couch. I forgot she preferred sleeping on the couch.

“Were you so desperate for my brother that you had to rush to him in the middle of a war?” Laci asked, trying to sound stern.

I lowered my eyes guiltily. “I am sorry, Laci. But my wolf wanted to help….”

“Hey! I was just kidding! But seriously, I almost went mad when I didn’t replace you. I had to send my secret spies to the war, to check if you were with my brother.” She explained.

“I am sorry. I… I have caused too much trouble for you, right?” I asked, looking down.

” Of course you have. I am going to have an earful from my brother when he comes. But tell me, Koko. Did you only help my brother out in the war or did you help him out in other aspects too?” She asked, grinning.

My face turned red like a beetle. I refused to answer her, as I covered myself with the blanket.

I wasn’t going to answer that question!

I woke up to a bright morning and the first thing that greeted me was a room full of people. I looked up to see different pairs of eyes staring at me.

Who are these people? I shrunk back in fear and guarded instincts.

Memories of how I was mocked and humiliated because of my eyes flashed through my mind and I wished I hadn’t opened my eyes in the first place.

And I was right.

I began to hear different murmurs and gasps from the people in the room. From the little I saw just now, these people looked dignified. It seemed they were people of royalty.

“Take a look at her eyes! Did you notice the color of her eyes?”

“Yes, Maria! I have never seen anything like that in my entire life!”

“Do you think she is cursed? Or perhaps a demon?”

“Or maybe she was sent as a witch to come and destroy our alpha by claiming to be…”

“That might also be true. We need to ward off every evil or curse from our Alpha King. If this one lasts longer, others would come using different methods.”

“I think we should just call the Pack’s priest. He would know what to do.”

“I have truly not seen anyone with such dark eyes before.”

At that moment, the door suddenly flung open and Laci walked in, her perfect emerald green eyes shining so bright. She glared at the group of people in the room.

“How the hell did you people get in here?” Laci asked the bunch of people in the room.

“Laci, how could you talk to your elders like that?” One of the women spoke up.

“That’s right. We are still your aunts” another one said, nodding her head.

“That still hasn’t answered my question! You know how much I hate repeating myself or do you want my brother to hear about your visit?” Laci lashed out in a threatening tone, not minding their words.

When they saw she wasn’t giving up, they all immediately kept quiet. They looked completely different from the chirping women not long ago.

“Please, don’t be upset. We heard the news from your mother and we decided to come too. We want to see for ourselves.” one of the ladies replied.

“Aunt Maria, did you people come to see her or mock her? I could practically hear your demeaning words from across the room!” Laci asked.

“We were just being curious and we didn’t do anything wrong to her! We didn’t even curse her, Laci.” The woman named Maria defended herself before turning to the other women.” Right?”

The other women all nodded in approval at her question. It seemed like she was the leader of the group. I guessed this lady must hold a high position in this place for these older women to follow up in her mockery of me.

But Laci shot a glare at all of them. “So you mean to say that I am lying?”

The women were all quiet.

I raised my head to see Laci walking toward me. I felt anxious and a bit scared. But she just smiled reassuringly at me. The burden in my heart lifted to a certain degree.

She got to the bed and held my hands squeezing them tightly. I saw her face lit up in a dazzling smile, as she played with my hands.

“Koko, always remember that you are beautiful in and out, okay?” She said.

I nodded, even though I was not too sure of myself. I knew they won’t accept me with the way they were talking about me.

“My brother ordered me to take care of you and I won’t stand by and watch anyone insult you,” Laci said, staring daggers at the women.

Then she turned to look at me, still smiling. “I bet you must be hungry already, right?”

I didn’t answer, she didn’t wait for my reply either.

“Hope you are okay? Are you feeling hurt anywhere?” She asked, smiling.

“I am fine. It’s just a little pain from where I was shot, but it’s bearable.” I reassured her.

“Are you sure? I don’t want to be scolded by my brother for being negligent. Are you sure you have not hurt anywhere from last night?” she said, giving me a sly smile.

That was when one of the women chipped into the conversation.” Are you our Alpha King’s second chance mate?”

“Aunt!” Laci exclaimed, staring daggers at the woman.

“What? I was just trying to confirm the rumors going around in the pack. It’s no longer news that the alpha was given a second chance mate.”

I didn’t answer at first, because I thought they were probably talking about Laci. She was the only young lady noble enough to be with an alpha.

I raised my head to look at her, but it seemed she wasn’t the one being addressed. That was when I observed their gazes were fixed on me.

I looked at the woman and then my eyes went back to Laci, feeling confused. “I… I don’t to understand what you are saying. What exactly do you mean by mate?”

“Koko, you are my brother’s second chance mate,” Laci said, looking at my face.

What the heck! Was everything that happened last night real? It wasn’t a dream? Did I sleep with my supposed mate?

Does that mean my wolf was that powerful wolf that was fighting beside the handsome alpha?

And it also seemed like he wasn’t lying either when he called out to me as a mate. I knew Laci had been telling me these days, but honestly, I just thought it was a joke.

This was a cruel joke by the moon goddess! Does she hate me so much that she sees my life as a joke or some kind of chess piece?

“Are you alright, Koko? You look pale all of a sudden.” Laci asked, worriedly.

“I… Laci, can you tell me why your brother thinks I am his mate? Maybe it’s a mistake or something?” I drew her closer to whisper into her ears.

She shook her head. “You are indeed his second chance mate. His wolf called out to you in the presence of all his sentinels. My brother can never pull such tricks.”

“But…it’s impossible… it can’t be…” I murmured, still feeling confused.

I definitely can’t be so lucky as to have three chance mates!

But I still can’t deny the fact that I just slept with him last night!
