Twisted Ties of Love
Chapter 401

"Abusing a cat ain't illegal, right? It's just a cat, after all?"

Those words were like pouring gasoline on a fire for some people. If someone could cruelly hurt a cat, there's no way they would feel remorse. Someone picked up an unopened can and smashed it on Ariana's head. The weight and sharp edges of the can split her forehead like a knife. Ariana cried out in pain, her vision blurring as her brain rattled, and she stumbled and fell to the ground.

The person at the front didn't stop there. They started to lay into Ariana with kicks and punches.

"Do you think it's okay to hurt something just because it ain't protected by law, Ariana? You don't deserve to be human!"

Most people had enough decency not actually to hurt her, and they just spat at her bloody face.

"Pah!"

The pain was unbearable. She felt like she was dying.

"Do you know what pain feels like now? Did you think about how much pain that cat was in when you hurt it yesterday? It was crying out, begging you, but did you stop? You poured gasoline on it, burned it, cut it, pulled its teeth out with pliers. Did you ever think about how much pain that was? Ariana, you're a monster. You don't deserve to be human. People like you should go to hell, become a dead rat!"

Ariana was holding her head, enduring the pain. She didn't want to know, not at all. Why was all the blame on her? Wasn't Kristin Lasley at fault too? The assistant too?

She wanted to say the one who was wrong from the start was Izabella! If Izabella had left her a way out at the beginning, none of this would have happened. She hated these people so much.

The neighbourhood security guard noticed the commotion and came running.

"Someone's coming. Let's scram!" The crowd immediately dispersed, running off in different directions.

"Ma'am, are you okay? Do you need me to call the police?" They spoke words of concern, but no one reached out to help her because Ariana was filthy and stank.

Ariana pushed herself off the ground, slowly getting up despite the pain. She was panting, tears falling down and mixing with the blood on her face, making the pain even more intense. Her mask was twisted, revealing her bruised and swollen face.

The security guard recognized her instantly, his face going from concern to disdain.

The news about her was still hot. Her pictures of abusing cats were everywhere, even on the morning and evening news.

Who didn't know Ariana now, didn't know she abused cats?

The security guard was initially thinking about calling the police or an ambulance for her, but after seeing her face, he coldly said, "If you're okay, you better get out of here. Those wounds of yours don't look life-threatening."

Ariana clenched her teeth, realized they were loose, and had to keep her mouth shut.

She dared not look up, and her head hung low as she didn't know whether she should go to the airport or go home and change.

She had to leave the country today. Every day she stayed increased her risk. She didn't know how many more situations like this she would have to face.

Ariana stood there for a long time, thinking, then decided to go home and change before setting off again. This time she was more cautious and didn't encounter any suspicious people on the way.

When she got to the airport, with people coming and going, she thought it would be safer there.

Just as Ariana started to relax, a man brushed past her shoulder and stopped in front of her.

Ariana immediately felt a sense of danger. She knew something was wrong, but it was too late to react.

The man raised his drink to splash her. She initially thought it was just a regular drink, but when the liquid hit her skin, she felt intense pain, like it was rusting her skin.

"Ah!" Ariana screamed in pain, clutching her face. It was sulfuric acid.

The parts of her body splashed with the acid started to disintegrate, and her hair started to fall out.

The acid also splashed into her eyes. Ariana was writhing in pain on the ground. She thought the pain from the earlier attack was bad enough, but something worse waited her. Compared to the acid burn, the injuries from the earlier attack were nothing.

The airport immediately went into panic mode, and the man who threw the acid was subdued by airport security. He was pinned to the ground, laughing crazily, grinning at Ariana like a lunatic and shrieking, "Die, die!"

Ariana was in so much pain she couldn't think. She held her face, feeling her skin disintegrating, unable to open her eyes due to the pain. The cornea is a delicate part of the human eye and can be blinded by acid.

In the end, Ariana was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. Just as Kristin said, she could not leave the country.

The man who threw the acid was taken to the police station. Investigations revealed that he had severe mental illness and escaped a mental institution.

Criminals with a history of mental illness could exploit legal loopholes and get away with their crimes. In the end, he was sent back to the mental institution and had to compensate Ariana for some of her losses.

The trending topics online kept changing, but they were all about Ariana.

She was attacked at 6 a.m. and was hospitalized after being splashed with sulfuric acid.
