Twisted Ties of Love -
Chapter 461
Beck asked his butler to brew two cups of tea from the leaves Izabella had brought. The initial taste was slightly bitter, but quickly turned sweet, leaving a delightful aftertaste that lingered. Beck made the first move, placing a black piece on the marble chessboard. The sounds of the pieces hitting the board were the only noises on the otherwise silent balcony.
Time passed, and before they knew it, the game had become intense. Izabella seemed thoughtful, while Beck, holding the black pieces, furrowed his eyebrows as he carefully considered his next move. After placing a black piece on the board, he looked up at Izabella. She was no ordinary woman, always remaining calm and composed, even when facing adversity.
A woman with such self-control was truly admirable.
Izabella's chess skills were impressive, and Beck gradually began to feel the pressure. He glanced at Izabella, who had remained cool and collected from the start, a slight smile on her face exuding confidence.
As the cool evening breeze blew, rustling her hair, Izabella held her chin in one hand while gently twirling a chess piece in the other. After seeing Beck make his move, she delicately placed her piece on the board.
"Mr. Beck, you have been generous," she said.
Beck put down his piece, "I didn't expect you to be so good at chess. Not many young people these days have the patience for it."
"I learned it from my grandfather."
Izabella recalled her past. As a child in the Salotti family, she was largely ignored by her father and brothers. It was her grandfather who raised her and taught her how to play chess, how to stay calm, and how to see the bigger picture. Unfortunately, she had failed him and the Salotti family.
Now her goal was to rebuild the family and restore its former glory.
Beck's expression suddenly turned serious. "Izabella, I need to apologize to you. I was wrong to insult you with money, and to misjudge you."
Izabella shook her head with a smile, "Mr. Beck, I never blamed you. You have nothing to apologize for."
"If I make a mistake, I should apologize. Do you forgive me?"
"Of course, I understand that everything you did was for Casey's good. You are a good father."
A lump formed in Beck's throat, "You are one of the best girls I've ever known, just like my daughter. I want to ask you a serious question."
"What is it?"
"Will you stay with Casey forever? No matter what happens to him, will you continue to love him?"
"As long as he remains faithful to me."
"If he dares to be unfaithful, I'll break one of his legs and Mrs. Bunny will break the other."
Izabella laughed. She had finally experienced what it felt like to be loved and cherished, and to have a family. All of this was thanks to Casey.
Casey had given her a unique kind of love, and his family had welcomed her with open arms.
"Mr. Beck, I want to be with Casey forever. I love him and want to spend my life with him. He is the only surprise I will ever encounter in my life, and I don't want to let him go." Izabella stated earnestly. "I used to think that you weren't good enough for Casey, but now I think it's Casey who's lucky to have you."
"There's no such thing as being good enough or not. Casey and I are meant for each other." Izabella tilted her head, her fair skin and bright lips creating a captivating image. Her confidence was palpable whenever she spoke of Casey.
"That's a relief. You can rest assured that in the Dempsey family, the women have the final say. We won't let you be wronged. And Casey didn't grow up with us and had to endure a lot of hardships. But everything is on track now. We don't expect anything from him except for him to be happy and do what he loves."
Casey didn't grow up with his parents? And what did he mean by hardships? Was he referring to Casey's heart condition?
However, thinking about Beck's words, Izabella had a feeling that there was more to it than he let on. It seemed like the Dempsey family was hiding something, and Casey appeared to be unaware. What could it be?
Just as Izabella was about to probe further, Bunny's voice interrupted her.
"Bella, come and eat."
Casey walked over and asked, looking at the chessboard, "How did it go?"
Beck replied, "I lost a game, but I'll win the next one."
Casey chuckled, "I didn't expect you to lose."
"Can't I lose sometimes? I'll win the next one."
"There won't be a next game. Izabella is here for me, not to entertain an old man like you."
"Casey, are you asking for a beating?"
Izabella discreetly shook her head at Casey.
