Twisting Her Fate
Chapter 55

In the morning, bright and early, in the pack hospital of the half moon pack. A large delivery of over forty vials of the serum arrive. Terrance has never felt better about a delivery. He even made this delivery in person, a well-disguised person, but he had to make sure nothing went wrong. Not only does he make an obscene amount of money from the transaction, he also gets to take part in the game and offer his own justice for Leilani.

The pack doctor promptly takes the delivery up to the pack house, knocking on the study door and replaceing a very tired looking Gabriel who is still in the same dirty clothes as he was in the day before. His outfit looked bad enough the day before, after an extra night sleeping over his desk. He nearly looks like he is without a home. The smell in the room is bad, so bad that the man that deals with all sorts of things, bodily processes and such has to control his gag reflex.

The doctor places the box down on the desk, studying the alpha in the process. He has not been with the pack for long. He was specially bought in after the original pack doctors kids did not want to take over and they needed someone when the old doctor got too old. He was recruited from outside, so has no original tie with either the pack or Gabriel.

So it is a lot easier to judge from an outsider's perspective.

He didn't grow up with Gabriel, neither did he see what Gabriel went through when he was young. But from what he has heard, Gabriel had a very privileged upbringing, so the fact that he is falling apart in front of the pack's eyes is not really a good sign. The doctor considering replaceing a new pack before this one crumbles around him and he is forced into the same position. It is better to abandon the sinking ship when there are still life rafts available.

"Alpha, they couldn't tell me much about prolonged or constant use of the serum, merely saying that it was never intended to be used in such a way"

"Whatever, I don't care, I will let you know when I'm nearly out so you can restock"

"Yes, Alpha"

The doctor walks out rolling his eyes. Gabriel opens the first glass vial caring little about the contents as he throws it straight back. Enjoying the near instant relief. It gives him a numb feeling in his heart. It is something that feels a bit familiar, but he doesn't think twice about it. His overtired brain is not able to put two and two together.

The sense of relief blocking out all other thoughts.

Gabriel walks out of his study and into his bedroom. Now that the dull ache is his heart is gone, he had better start getting himself into order. First up, he needs a shower and a change of clothes and now that his mind is free of the burden of the ache, he can start thinking about how to go about this Leilani problem. He needs to work out a solution fast. But still being no closer to knowing whether or not it is a Leilani problem or whether someone knows and is playing him.

Walking into his room, he sees Maggie sprawled out on the bed. He is tempted to walk out and go to another room, instead he walks to the bed, lifting his leg and kicking Maggie straight out of the bed. Maggie wakes up as her body hits the floor, groaning with the impact. Her eyes flutter open, meeting Gabriel's eyes.

"I didn't realize that any random wh*re can come in and sleep in the alpha's bed whenever they feel like it"

It doesn't take Maggie long to remember the situation and, even though she's slightly groggy, she knows that it's now or never to get her side across.

"Baby, what is it going to take for you to forgive me?"

"I didn't realize that treasonous behaviour was a forgivable offence"

"It wasn't treason. Gabriel, you haven't given me a chance to explain"

Gabriel chuckles darkly, crossing his arms over his chest as he looks down at the woman who is still sprawled on the ground. Her pitiful expression is nearly too much. It is so exaggerated and Gabriel replaces it repulsive.

Maggie doesn't actually have an excuse. She fell asleep while trying to think of one and she wasn't actually expecting Gabriel to give her a chance. So, once again, she's at a loss for words.

"Ahhhh I was just trying to see Connor to see if he could stop sleeping with that girl before I can go through with the rejection, just before our wedding"

Gabriel motions to the pile of undergarments that are sitting on the top of the washing basket.

"So that is the route you took in doing something incredibly innocent, like talking to him about the rejection?"

"Yes umm see, I didn't mean anything by it. It was not treason, it was nothing against you. You are always my first choice"

Gabriel snorts as he looks at the woman who is busy trying to cover her own a*s.

"Sure"

"You are. I seriously was just going and talking to him about it. I probably took the wrong way. I should have come to you and spoken to you first and you could have given me the right directions, as we all know that you are so much better at this stuff than me. It's just that you are missing and I hadn't heard from you and I tried to take matters into my own hands and that's how I ended up in this situation"

Maggie crawls over the floor and kneels at Gabriel's feet. Looking up at the tall man who is looking less than handsome with his dishevelled, crazy look, but she will still worship the ground that he walks on in an effort not to lose everything she has worked towards. "What can I do to make this right? Gabriel, please I will do anything"

Gabriel looks at that woman on the ground in front of him. He has never had much feeling for the woman. She has been around for a long time, going on close to eight years, maybe more. He is used to having her around. She is a good lay. She doesn't really do much wrong and she keeps her mouth shut and keeps out of his way. But in no way can he let what she did slide. Trying to think of a punishment for her isn't easy.

With all that's going on, he doesn't want to be seen as too harsh to her, so tying her up to the punishment pole and getting her whipped isn't an option, even though that is what he feels that she deserves. That would include letting the pack know what she did, which is not an option either. They won't want a luna that is not loyal to the pack and he doesn't want to be embarrassed by the fact that someone is better and she would go to someone else.

Of late, he probably hasn't made the best impression on the pack, so he doesn't want to take his reputation further by doing something too vicious. He needs a certain level of fear and respect from his pack, but it can go too far.

"Well, why don't you do a punishment that I give the warriors if they step out of line?"

Maggie shakes slightly, her voice is timid as she questions.

"What do they have to do?"

"Run border patrol everyday for two weeks"

Maggie nearly falls over. That punishment is dangerous for her.

"Is there something else I can do?"

"Not willing? It doesn't seem like you are that interested in apologizing, so maybe you should get the hell out of the half moon pack"

Maggie grips Gabriel's pants, desperate for him not to walk away.

"No, I'll do it. I'll do anything"

Gabriel snorts, kicking Maggie off his legs before stalking into the shower. He looks back at her.

"Get the f*ck out of my room, spend some nights in the guest room or go back to your parents. I don't want to share a bed with you at the moment"

As Maggie nods her head and starts to walk toward the door, making herself as agreeable as possible, Gabriel speaks up again.

"Change the sheets before you leave. I don't want the scent of sl*t all over my bed"

Gabriel walks into the bathroom, slamming the door behind him. Maggie looks at the door whispering.

"Like you can talk about smell. A sewer treatment plant smells better than you"

She doesn't dare say it loudly but feels better after saying the words. Sighing, she starts to change the sheets. She doesn't mind, the fact that she still hasn't been kicked out of the house is a win.

But the punishment, that is what has her worried. Gabriel has never once seen her wolf, he has never questioned why she doesn't shift in front of him, he never asks her to go for a run or hunt. So it has never been a problem. Her wolf is another secret that she keeps closely guarded from Gabriel.

Her wolf is small, it makes no sense and her parents can offer her no answers. All she can do is hide the fact.

But trying to run a border patrol, she will have to be shifted in front of others. Wouldn't the fact get back to Gabriel? Not only that, she has the respect of the half moon pack of the luna. What would they think of her if they saw she had a tiny wolf? The main reason that she is loved is because of her pure alpha bloodline, but her wolf shows none of that.

Maggie sighs, trying to think of a good reason to get out of it.
