Twisting Her Fate -
Chapter 58
'We have the first hit'
Leilani wakes when Hudson links her, she turns slightly to look at Connor's serene sleeping face. He always wears a slight smile when he sleeps, he looks so soft and gentle, so unguarded. He truly is beautiful.
Leilani kisses Connor gently on the nose before extricating herself from his tight embrace, Leilani smiling at the fact that Connor sleeps so well that she never disturbs him. She has no idea that it is only in her presence that he can sleep so well. Leilani slips out of the room, closing the door behind her as she approaches the others. Terrance is sitting with the group, he raises his hands in defense. "I won't say a word to Connor"
"You understand why I am keeping it from him?"
Terrance nods, even living on the outskirts of the pack as an outcast warlock he heard about Evie, so if there truly is a connection and looking at the evidence, it looks incredibly likely.
Terrance actually enjoys how quickly all of them accepted him into the fold and he wants to prove that he is worthy of their trust and can be helpful.
"I can mix up a potion that will turn your hair that color for an hour at a time"
Leilani raises her eyebrows.
"Can you do any color?"
"I can"
"I like that idea better than a dodgy wig. What about eye color?"
"I can"
"Amazing, anyway what did we get"
Hudson passes Lani her phone.
"Since I said that, we have been bombarded. Who knew you were such a draw card?"
Leilani raises her eyebrows and the boys laugh as a group. In the last seven years, they haven't been far off chasing off the boys with a stick.
"That is only my fake persona. In real life I am a lot more intolerable"
Terrance gestures to the bedroom where Connor is still sleeping.
"I would disagree, someone thinks you are more than tolerable"
Leilani laughs.
"Tolerable? That is the best compliment I have ever received. Anyway, you are talking about a man that was fated to put up with Maggie. He must be a saint. It is hardly a glowing accolade."
Leilani sits next to Hudson as she starts to reply to each and every one. It is hours later when Connor finally wakes, cursing himself when he wakes with empty arms. Her spot is already cold but her scent lingers on the tip of his nose.
Connor walks out of the room with his eyes shut, it never ceases to amaze him how well he sleeps in the presence of Lani and the fact that he goes from ultra vigilant to sleeping so soundly that she can get out of his embrace without him even stirring. "I'm not looking, I promise"
Leilani looks up from her laptop, instantly casting it aside and walk to Connor's side, holding his arm as she directs him through the room. Connor has impeccable senses, so he could easily do it himself, but he would rather have a Leilani guide. "Can I take you all out for dinner?"
Connor would like some more alone time with Leilani, but forging relationships with the whole group is a lot more important. He isn't trying an angle. He genuinely wants to be friends with them. Arlo cheers. They are all ready for a break and leaving this room sounds like a fantastic option since they have just been eating delivered meals since they arrived.
"Since we have found out that the stormy pack is so prosperous, you might as well share some of your wealth"
Connor smiles, kissing Leilani on the head.
"What is the point of all my hard work if I can't even shout my girls family to dinner?"
Leilani's heart is warm and her arms tightened around Connor's waist. The boys look at each other in approval and Terrance gives Connor a figurative thumbs up.
The boys and Leilani do the bare minimum just to clean themselves up and new t-shirt and a quick run of the fingers through the hair. But as always, good looks gloss over the raging flaws. Even though the group is severely under dressed to be in such an establishment, their good looks make it appear completely normal.
As they sit down, Leilani notices something for the first time ever. She does not get as many strange looks when she is obviously with one of the men, when it's just her hanging out with her five brothers. The looks of deep disgust that she gets are countless. But now, being on the arm of Connor. The looks she is getting now are more of jealousy or intrigue or blatant admiration than of disgust.
It is actually a really nice change.
Connor holds Leilani's hand under the table but mostly works on making conversation with the group. Making sure to skirt around the facts of the case and working on getting to know each and every one of the boys.
Leilani watches from the side with a small smile on her face as she looks at the handsome man who is so focused and so interested in her family while he holds her hand so tenderly, his thumb stroking the back of her hand, his touch is so warm and gentle, he is everything that she could have hoped for in a life partner, the more she gets along with him the more apparent that becomes.
Connor stands.
"I'm just heading to the restroom"
The table nods and Connor walks away. Leilani never tries to hide anything from the boys, sending the boys a wink.
"I think I need to go to the restroom too"
Terrance laughs but the rest of them just shake their heads at her.
Connor finishes up, washing his hands in the basin, walking out the door in the midst of the sounds of the hand dryer. He is taken by surprise when a small hand wraps around his face, covering his mouth. He allows himself to be pulled back into the female toilets all the way back into a cubicle, helping with the process of shutting the door as his large body takes up most of the small space, making it hard for his tiny captor to work around him.
If anyone saw the sight they would be surprised by the petite Leilani manipulating the large man in such a way, but he is hardly about to fight against her because he knows that anything that she has in store is going to be fun. Any moment he gets to spend alone with her he will take. He turns in her arms, embracing her and pressing her against the cubicle wall as he looks down at her. Her big eyes blink up at him innocently and his face holds a sly smile.
"I really thought I got to the point in my life that I didn't have to face the danger of being kidnapped. But here you go. You proved me wrong"
Leilani kisses up his jawline.
"Are you going to scream for help?"
Connor kisses down her neck and across her shoulder, ever so softly biting the place where, one day, he hopes will hold his mark.
"Hmmmm the thing is, I think I have Stockholm syndrome, because this is the only place I want to be"
Connor hikes her body up the wall, pressing hard against her, grinding himself against her. She responds just as aggressively, passion sweeps over them until they are a tangle of limbs, tongues and very deep in the waves of pleasure.
After they finish, they both stay in the same position just kissing and holding each other, enjoying the closeness, knowing that they will not see each other for a few more days.
"The boys have gone back and Terrance is waiting for you"
"I know, but that doesn't mean I am ready to let you go"
"I am glad you came"
"I am glad I came as well. I didn't want to interrupt, but I am glad you could spare a bit of time for me"
"I can always spare a bit of time for you"
Connor's steel gray eyes take in all her features like he is afraid that he will forget a single detail.
"I am glad"
Connor kisses Leilani, she runs her hands through his hair once more, whispering to him.
"I will see you at the ball"
"You do know that the ball is three whole days away?"
"I do know"
"Do you know what three days is equivalent to when I am away from you?"
Leilani shakes her head trying to hide her sweet smile as Connor grips her chin tightly, his steel gray eyes capture her in their intense depths.
"Three days translates to an eternity"
Leilani kisses him deeply.
"I never knew you were so dramatic Alpha"
"It is only the truth"
It isn't till a group of women walk in and their conversation cuts to nothing, Leilani choosing to use the time wisely by kissing the man. They escape the bathroom as soon as the group leaves. Connor and Terrance head toward the Somerset pack and Leilani to continue her work. The feeling of missing the other grows before their scents have even faded off the others body.
