Blackness.

Time was intangible.

That’s all there was.

I was wondering in space, aimlessly walking around in nothingness.

Was this the afterlife? Was my soul in limbo? Was this really my fate in the end?

Her voice was still there, but how could that be? Do I still have a connection to the real world?

“I’ll love you forever, in this world, and the next. You can rest now, we’ll be ok.”

“We’ll be ok.”

“We’ll be ok.”

“We’ll be ok.”

No, No, No. They won’t be ok…They’ll never be ok. Diana will never be safe, nor my children as long as those bastards were still breathing. They went against nature. They are not werewolf, but a manifestation of pure evil, allowing jealously, greed, and power to consume their minds. Of course we all can fall victim to our desires, but to turn against your family, and your pack, goes against what a werewolf was.

Loyalty was a rarity these days and I was sick and tired of it.

The darkness was brief, and also a curious end. I thought this would be different, or maybe I convinced myself there was more, but no one really knows what happens when we die.

“Hello?” I called out and was met with nothing, but within the pure blackness, I felt something, or someone, slowly guiding me through.

The direction I was heading towards was unknown. It felt like I was in a black hole, where the air, the eerie silence, the darkness held no finite purpose. It was just an empty space.

This couldn’t be the afterlife.

Whatever was keeping my soul in this darkness had different intentions, and now, I was beginning to think that this wasn’t really my end.

….

A man’s voice spoke. “Do you know how sexy you look when you’re ordering the pack around?”

A woman chuckled softly, “Oh yeah? I mean, you’re the Alpha, so you can technically order me around.”

“When this is all over, I’m going to fuck you relentlessly.” He breathed in heavily, “You’re not going to leave my bedroom for a very long time my love.”

Their voices.

Their voices caused a twitch in my hand, but it wasn’t enough yet. I was coming back to reality, but it was going to take more then just my anger to muster the energy. Diana’s kiss brought me back somehow, but I needed to gather enough energy to get up and finish what I started.

The drugs comatose my entire body, but I was a werewolf, and not just any werewolf.

I am Alpha Damian of Fenrir pack.

I can do this.

The woman’s voice was Aria. “Well, ALPHA. Let me pretend for a moment that I was actually going to let them escape, and finish the job while they are trapped downstairs. Can I go PRETTY PLEASE?”

The man speaking was Aaron. “You’re fucking make me go crazy right now, you know that? Anything for you my love. I’ll come join you after retrieving our Alpha trophies.”

“You and I are going to do great things together.”

“Oh… I know, and I’m looking forward to it.”

There was another twitch in my hand, and the more they spoke, the faster I was coming through. My toes moved within my shoe, not enough for anyone to take notice.

“Wait… Before you go, just promise me one thing…” Aaron called out.

There was hesitation in Aria’s voice, “Umm, ok? What is it my love?”

“Promise me…. Promise me you’ll make it quick.”

My chest was moving, my fingers were gripped into the palm of my hand.

She chuckled, “Aw, baby…I pinkie swear Alpha Aaron.”

There was a brief moment of silence, and the only voice that was left was Aaron and the rest of the warriors in the room.

“Take care of Holden’s head, leave Damian to me.” Aaron commanded.

There was another brief silence, then, a commotion.

“What the hell?!” He yelled out.

My sharp wolf canines were full bloom, my limbs were pulsing with life, and in an instant, I shot up from the ground and gasped for air. My eyes were blurred, but slowly coming back. I held my hand to my chest to make sure I wasn’t dreaming or hallucinating.

Did I really just die and come back to life?

My hands quickly patted onto my chest, and my arm…. My arm, the syringe was still sticking out of my bicep. I pulled it out and threw it to the floor.

Just as my vision came back, I got view of a large man, standing close by. At first I thought it was Aaron, but it wasn’t.

He was much larger, wearing a hospital gown, and his arms were pulsating with rage as he held a man by the throat in one hand, lifting his feet off the ground.

It was Holden.

He almost looked demonic. His eyes were black, he was much larger in size, and his teeth were bloodied as they hung out of his mouth. He was partially shifted into his wolf, and boy, did he look pissed. He held Aaron like he was nothing, a mere pest he found trapped in a corner, and he was ready to exterminate him with an easy snap of his hand.

I was still too weak to stand, instead, I watched the spectacle unfold from the ground.

Holden’s low, booming voice practically shook the walls around us as he spoke, “So tell me, great…. Alpha…. Aaron,” there was a large gasp from Aaron as he was being choked out by Holden’s claw wrapped tightly around his neck, “Do you know the story of the three little pigs?”

I looked around at all the remaining warriors still in the room with us. Their faces turned white, like they were watching a ghost. They dropped their weapons to the floor, unable to comprehend what was happening.

“Nooo…This is impossible…” Aaron gasped again and rammed his fists against Holden’s forearm, but there was no use, he was no match to Holden’s strength and size.

If Holden’s voice couldn’t drop any further, he spoke again in a deeper tone, “My mother used read it to me before bed every night, right up until the day she was casted away by my father. And do you know what happens in the end little pig?”

Aarons legs struggled as they dangled freely off the ground.

“Tic tock little pig,” Holden gritted between his teeth.

Not a split second later, a large snap echoed the room followed by Aaron’s agonizing scream. Holden broke his arm completely in half, all while he still held him up with one hand. His arm hung there, dangling freely from his elbow downwards, like a sausage hanging in the deli. “What happens in the end little piggie? I can’t hear you.”

Aaron moaned loudly, and his eyes turned blood shot. “The pigs…The pigs….they – they – they hid in the brick house.”

“One single pig, tries to outsmart the BIG….” Holden tightened his grip, “BAD….” He dug his other claw into Aaron’s abdomen, tearing his flesh like it was paper. “WOLF.” He whipped his claw out from Aaron’s stomach , allowing a huge pool of blood to accumulate underneath his feet. I could hear the plumps and drops of organs falling to the ground as Aaron screamed in agony.

“PLEASE HOLDEN! I FUCKED UP, JUST PLEASE! I’LL DO WHATEVER YOU WANT! I’LL DISSAPEAR! ANYTHING BUT THIS! I’LL SUBMIT THE ALPHA TITLE!”

Aaron began coughing out his own blood to the floor below, and his strong struggle soon turned to frantic panic. His eyes were something I would never forget. It wasn’t pain, it was pure fear, and I could see Holden from the corner of my eye, slowly inhaling his scent.

“Who said you were the Alpha to begin with little pig?” Holden’s face deepened and his stance widened, like he was preparing for another jab.

“Oh god… Oh god… Please…” Aaron held his hand onto his stomach to prevent any more of his innards to fall out, but the damage was too great to heal.

The warriors surrounding us were now on their knees in submission, unable to watch further.

“So, what’s the moral of the story little pig?”

Aaron was so delirious, he couldn’t answer, instead, continued to moan in agony as he desperately held his stomach together.

“Don’t try to out smart the wolf, because I’ll tear that brick house down, ONE…” He stuck his hand inside his stomach once again, but with more force. “By ONE.” The blood curdling screams of Aaron almost burst my ear drums.

“PLEASE, OH MY GOD!” He cried out.

By the time Holden tore his claw back out, the hole in Aaron’s stomach was more apparent.

His legs that once dangled in the air were slowly seizing up, and his arm that was holding his stomach together was now dangling freely. There was a loud thud as Holden dropped his body to the ground, followed by an eerie silence within the room.

My heart began to race, my arms began to awaken, but I was still gathering my energy. I was still groggy from my comatose state.

“Pathetic wolf. A runt if you ask me.” He let out a loud growl and looked to the warriors in the room, then suddenly, he realized I was awake.

His eyes lit up as we made contact.

“What the hell did they give us? Where is Diana?” Holden stepped towards me, not giving a care to the warriors kneeling silently to us in submission.

“Hopefully far from you, besides, you should know what they gave us, you’re the expert in drugs asshole.” I steadied my hands on the floor to get to my feet, but instead was met with Holden’s partially shifted hand hanging in front of me.

I looked at it in disgust.

A large smile grew on his face, his eyes were still black, and his teeth were more wolf then human, but he wasn’t out for me, because now we both had a common enemy.

“The more you bitch and complain, the less likely they are going to make it out alive.”

I narrowed my eyes on his partially shifted claw. How could I accept his hand? How could I accept this when I came here to kill him? I was trying to wrap my head around what happened, but the questions were going to have to wait.

He was right.

I reached out to his hand, and he pulled me up to my feet. It almost felt like I was waking up from a very long sleep. My head was groggy, my legs still adjusting to the floor, but I was recovering fast. I felt powerful, I felt the best I’ve ever felt in a long time. My heart was pounding strong, my eyes were fully adjusted to the lighting, and my body was pulsing with life.

“This doesn’t change a damn thing,” I patted my legs off from the dust and began gathering my body armour.

“Right back at you.” Holden didn’t give me another look, instead headed towards the doorway.

“What about them?” I looked to the warriors who kept their eyes to the floor.

“They aren’t kneeling for me.” He smirked and walked out the door.

I looked at the warriors in submission. Was he really telling the truth? Holden was the one who killed Aaron just now, how could they think I was their Alpha?

“Accept us if you will have us Alpha.” One of the warriors called out.

They were mostly comprised of Adam’s former warriors, and it didn’t take much thought to give them an order. I was questionable of their allegiance, but I could use the help.

“Take the stairs and assist with the extraction. Get our Luna out safely.”

“Yes Alpha.” They said in unison.

The first one bowed his head quickly and ran out of the room, followed by the rest. I would much rather kill them for what they did, but that would have to be debated if we got out of here. I couldn’t assume they were all guilty of switching sides. It was either death or betrayal for most of those warriors. Aaron didn’t give them much of a choice when he decided to take Adam’s Alpha title.

After getting the rest of my armour on, I quickly made my way to the elevator door. I was ready to shift into my wolf if I had to, but I couldn’t outrun an army of silver bullets. I had to tread carefully now. We were outnumbered and shifting will put a large target on my back if we are overrun.

I caught view of Holden still in his hospital gown entering the elevator. He was holding the door open for me. “Well, what are you waiting for? She’s down there. All of them are. Can’t you smell the blood?”

I took a quick glance at him as I stood on the edge of the entrance. “You’re going down like that?” He was bare underneath his hospital gown, and I had a feeling I knew why.

“I’m shifting, no need for armour. I’ll be the distraction and you can get her out safely.”

My eyes widened and I entered the elevator. He pressed the button for the main lobby and the doors slowly closed. It was hard not to lunge for him, but circumstances had this entire mission turned upside down.

“I don’t believe you.” I kept my eyes on the door as the numbers started to drop to the main level.

He smirked and looked over to me in the corner of his eye, “I wouldn’t believe me too.”

“Why not call them off? They’re your pack after all.”

“Oh brother, do you not understand what just happened? I died. The moment my heart stopped I was finished, and my connection severed. I thought I would have the title for Alpha back once I killed Aaron, but it looks as though Aria is the real Alpha leading this shit show. Do you really think she was going to let Aaron out of here alive? She’s been planning this behind my back for a long time. My pack is no longer mine. As long as Aria is breathing, Crimson pack is hers.”

I breathed in heavily and looked over my shoulder. Holden was calm, his hands were crossed behind his back like he was patiently waiting for something to happen. What did he expect me to say? There wasn’t much time to talk, but hell, I’ll take advantage of it.

“You deserved the fate you got. Too bad you couldn’t stay dead.”

His eyebrows raised and he looked over to me again, “Oh, I know.”

I scoffed and looked forward again. “Smart ass.”

“So, did you see her?”

“Who?” I asked curiously.

“The Moon Goddess.”

“No, what are you talking about? It was just blackness, maybe it was limbo, but I felt something pulling me back. I heard Diana’s voice, then I saw you ripping Aaron’s intestines out.”

He scoffed in response and looked forward to the steel elevator door.

I narrowed my eyes on him, “Did you see her?”

He smirked and peeked over to me, “No.”

“Then why did you ask? What makes you ask a question like that?”

“I just needed to know, because that’s who brought us back.”

“Diana brought us back. When she kissed us, she unknowingly brought us back.”

“See what your saying? It was with the help of the Moon Goddess herself. Diana has been harnessing her power of the Moon Goddess this entire time, and it will always stay with her. In a way, she is an embodiment of the very god werewolves pray to.”

“What the hell do you know anyway? You were just using her…”

“Look,” he stepped forward and put his hand on my shoulder. My heart started to pound feeling his hand on me and I immediately tensed up, pushing his body with so much force he stumbled back hard into the wall of the elevator.

“NO, YOU LOOK HERE ASSHOLE. THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT. Your greed, your selfishness, your lies are what brought us here. You think going out on a suicide mission down there will redeem you?! Do you think you will get her forgiveness from all the pain you brought?! Your nothing but a winy little spoiled brat who can’t let go of the past! Look at yourself! Look at the pack you had! All in shambles because you forced and played around with a destiny that was never meant for you. She’s been fighting this entire time, hell, she might be dead already. And all you have to talk about is her power that you so desperately try to exploit on a daily basis. Look at what you could have been, and now, you’re the devil with no Alpha title. You’re a fucking disgrace… I’m ashamed we share the same blood. Your just like your father, and you’re doing the same god damn thing to Diana. The very person you hated your entire life is exactly the person you have become.”

Telling him how I felt, this entire time, I thought it would be a release of negative energy, leaving my body forever as I faced my brother in the flesh, but I was only met with more anger. There was so much more I wanted to say. My eyes felt as though they were going to pop out of my eye sockets. I was so fucking pissed, I wanted to tear him to shreds right then and there, but at the end of the day it was going to take two of us to get Diana and the others out safely.

I braced myself as I awaited his response. I was expecting Holden to meet me with the same level of intensity, but it was rather the opposite.

He took a deep breath in as he calmly looked to me. “Just – just – promise me something…”

I kept my hardened expression and intensity. I wasn’t going to fall for his bullshit. Who knows, maybe he was planning something underhanded the moment I turned my back.

“AND WHATS THAT?!” I snapped back.

“Love my pup like your own. He or she has nothing to do with my monstrosities. I’m the cold killer, not my child….” I could see a twinkle in the corner of Holden’s eye, then low and behold, there was a rogue tear falling down his cheek.

My hardened expression suddenly dropped. My fists, slowly released from my tightened grip. My entire body eased from the fire of emotions.

What the hell was I witnessing? Did he really mean what he was saying?

“I’ll take care of the three of them until my final breath. They are mine to love and protect, NO MATTER WHAT. I don’t care about the blood running through their veins. ”

He sighed heavily and dropped his eyes to the floor. “I’m sorry.”

“Excuse me?”

Holden turned his head to me, with his bloodshot eyes full of tears, “I’m fucking sorry alright! I’m sorry for everything! The deceit, the killing, and the way I treated her…. I’m too late for apologies, but if I have to kill myself over and over again, then I guess that is what I deserve. I convinced myself that this was the only way to live. To hold her against her will, to lie to her face everyday, and to KILL what ever got in my way…Her family, her father, brother, the entire god damn pack.. It was easy to keep the guilt at bay because in a way I’m exactly like my father, but, when I found out she was pregnant… It was like lighting the fuse to my dynamite. I kept seeing our mother in my sleep, in Diana’s eyes whenever I looked to her. She looks at me like a monster that I am…. It’s too late for me Damian. I don’t deserve this god forsaken redemption that the Moon Goddess has granted me, and if I have to spend the rest of my pathetic existence fighting an endless battle, I suppose hell will have to wait.”
