Ultimate Evolution I Became the Master of the World
Chapter 51 All the Missing People.

The mall was creepily quiet.

The only sound was Michael's footsteps echoing as he walked.

It should be dusk outside by now, with the sun shining through the glass windows, giving a bit of light to the dim mall.

But that light wouldn't last long.

Once it got dark and the mall lights turned off, it would be pitch black in here.

"To your left, there's someone standing to your left." Jane's nervous voice crackled through Michael's satellite phone on his chest.

A middle-aged man with a pale face, reeking of something foul, stood still with his eyes closed at the left turn of the corridor, like a lifeless puppet. Michael took a big step forward, glanced to the left, and his eyes flickered slightly. "I see him."

He sidestepped and walked forward, avoiding the middle-aged man.

The man didn't move, even as Michael walked past him.

"You're amazing, your deduction was spot on, it really worked, the ghost didn't attack you." Jane's voice was excited in the monitoring room.

But Michael wasn't so pleased. He said, "No, I now suspect these aren't real ghosts. They should just be controlled by a ghost. The real ghost must be hiding somewhere, or in someone. Don't waste time, the surveillance videos in the monitoring room can be saved for fifteen days. I learned about the mall's situation before, everything happened within these ten days from the incident to the closure."

"As long as you look carefully, you can definitely replace the source," he added.

"Don't worry, I know what to do." Jane replied. She was gradually gaining confidence and wasn't as scared anymore.

"Behind you, in the store behind you, I saw someone," she urgently reminded him.

Michael immediately turned around.

Behind the glass door of a store, a young girl dressed in vibrant clothes was standing there. Her skin was dark, indicating she had been dead for several days, even longer than Emily and had started to decompose severely. As she moved slightly, her once shiny black hair fell off in clumps.

Her nose and eyes were dripping with foul-smelling corpse fluid.

Yet this corpse raised its hand as if to reach out through the glass door to grab Michael.

"Even inside the glass door?" Michael's expression changed and he quickly turned around again.

He walked backward, sideways.

As long as he didn't turn his back on them, he could avoid being attacked immediately. If he chose to run out of fear, he would die a horrible death.

After understanding the pattern, Michael found the ghost not so troublesome.

'Nikolai's three sentences were indeed very insightful. As long as you understand the ghost's killing pattern immediately, even an ordinary person can walk out of here.' Michael thought to himself.

Of course, this only applied to this level of ghost.

At a higher level, like the Ghost Baby, which killed indiscriminately, the so-called pattern couldn't guarantee survival but could only greatly increase the chances of survival.

After avoiding two ghosts close to him, Michael sped up again.

Because he could hear the continuous approaching footsteps around him and the eerie sound of the elevator operating.

Michael knew that no matter which direction he turned his back to, there would be ghosts appearing in that direction. The ghosts behind him were just farther away and needed some time to get close. If he was stuck too long, once he was surrounded, it would be a certain death.

Of course, Michael dared to do this because he was a Ghost Handler. An ordinary person would never dare to do this.

"The utility room is ahead, turn left, go forward, but you need to hurry, the ghosts behind you are increasing and I see more ghosts coming up from the elevator," she reminded worriedly.

Jane became nervous again. "I'm already checking the surveillance footage for you. I would replace the place where the ghost first appeared soon."

"I know." Michael glanced.

Sure enough, the fourth-floor elevator was operating and in the dim light, he vaguely saw two people standing on the elevator coming to the fifth floor.

Moreover, the sounds of the elevators on the third and second floors were still continuously ringing.

Michael saw blurry figures moving in several places downstairs.

"How many people have gone missing in this mall?" Michael was shocked.

Just a rough estimate, at least twenty people and the number was still increasing, with people constantly appearing from every corner and floors of the mall. The air was getting more and more filled with the stench of corpses.

"This ghost really picked a prime spot, choosing a mall with tons of people. Under normal circumstances, a dozen people going missing over a few days wouldn't even raise an eyebrow. In less crowded places, the ghost wouldn't have so many chances to kill," Michael said.

"Now, the dead are my problem," he added.

With caution, he started running, heading straight for the utility room.

Outside the utility room, a man with a pale, bloodless face stood stiffly. Although his head looked like that of a thirty-year-old man, his body was that of a woman, dressed in a skirt and brown high heels. Clearly, his head had been swapped.

The man was numbly pounding on the door, each hit sounding like a heavy hammer blow, almost shattering the door.

However, the man's arms were already a bloody mess, with large chunks of flesh falling off, exposing the bones in a grotesquely broken position.

A human body was not as hard as a door.

But none of this deterred his determination to break in..

The people hiding in the utility room trembled in fear as they saw the door shaking.

"It's back, Ethan, do something, the door is about to break, that thing is still outside, it didn't leave," Lucas said in terror.

"Five million dollars, I'll give you five million dollars if you can get me out of here," Mr. Wagner shouted, no longer stingy, his voice trembling with fear. Money was important, but his life was more important.

Ethan's face was particularly grim. He looked at his hands, which were covered in blood, soaking through his gloves and dripping onto the floor.

The blood pooling on the ground couldn't be fully reabsorbed.

"I can't use this ability anymore, or I'll die even faster," he took a deep breath.

The blood on the door had stopped flowing, no longer seeping out, because his hands were no longer pressed against it.

The door shook again, the frame vibrating and dust falling from above.

The force was getting stronger.

As the group huddled together in fear, in an inconspicuous corner, Leila, who had neither screamed nor spoken a word, slowly stood up.

She closed her eyes, her face drained of color and her body twisted in a bizarre manner, turning to face the group with their backs to her, then slowly extended her hands. However, at that moment, a loud crash came from outside.

Something had fallen and broken.

Michael's voice came from outside, "Are you still alive in there? If you're not dead, open the door. I have a way to get you out of here."

"What? There's someone outside?" Ethan was greatly shocked.

He couldn't believe it. With so many ghosts in the mall, it was impossible for anyone to be alive.

"It's the security guard's voice. Quick, open the door and see if he really has a way to get us out of here," Mr. Wagner, with a good memory, immediately recognized Michael's voice. "Don't open the door. Who knows if the one speaking outside is human or a ghost," Lucas said in terror.

Reminded by Lucas, Ethan also became wary.

Indeed, there was no evidence that the security guard outside was human.

What if it was a trap?

Michael had managed to throw the ghost at the utility room door down from the fifth floor. Although it wouldn't be killed, it would take some time to come back up, temporarily alleviating the immediate crisis.

But hearing the people in the utility room, his face darkened, "Alright, it doesn't matter if you don't come out. I watched the surveillance footage earlier. One of you, Leila, is also a ghost. If Leila has started to act, you'll all die in there, so make a quick decision."

Hearing this, everyone in the utility room broke out in a cold sweat.

What? Leila was a ghost?

Almost instinctively, everyone turned to look.

The next moment, they saw Leila standing up at some point, without a head.

Several screams erupted from the utility room.

Outside the room, Michael couldn't help but cover his ears.

The next moment, the utility room door was slammed open, and a group of people scrambled out, some even wetting their pants in fear. "Run!"

"Help, I don't want to die."

Michael reminded them again, "It's okay to scream, but don't run around. There are more ghosts outside. The faster you run, the faster you will die."

Upon hearing this, Mr. Wagner, Lucas and Mr. Rossi's group scattered but collapsed in fear after a few steps.

At some point, the fifth-floor corridor was filled with people. In every direction, there were people.

These people had pale faces, closed eyes and emitted a foul stench of decay. They moved stiffly, continuously approaching, blocking all possible escape routes. They were all the people who had gone missing in the mall.

Today, they all appeared.
