Chapter 148

Yvette

put on some slippers and left her room. She walked out and realized that Xavier wasn't home yet.

She asked, "What time?"

"We're meeting around 10:00 am," Kiki responded.

"Okay, I'll be right over."

After hanging up, she thought about it before deciding to send Xavier a text. She told him that she was going to a friend's.

Since she was going to Kiki's place, it meant that she could pop by and visit Zachary too. It had only been a few days, but it felt like she hadn't seen him in ages. She wondered how he had been doing lately. Sternhow Club was extremely quiet. It was early in the morning. Tristan hadn't managed to get enough rest and had been dragged there for drinks.

"Why are we drinking at such an early hour, Xav?" He was still in his doctor's coat. "You don't know how busy I've been lately."

Xavier stared at Tristan's unruly demeanor. "What's keeping you so occupied? It's not like you have a wife

or something."

"Then why are you here when you have a wife?" countered Tristan.

There was a lump in Xavier's throat.

Upon noticing that something was amiss, Tristan promptly changed the topic. "I've been preparing for medical school. You have no idea how many operations I've performed the past few days." Naturally, he had been secretly investigating Kiki as well. He wanted to know when he had gotten involved with her. How had they even ended up having a kid? He couldn't remember a single thing. "Why?" Xavier asked. He hadn't expected Tristan to turn over a new leaf so quickly.

"Why what?"

"I thought you swore you'd never be a doctor."

Tristan tried to cover his face with a glass. "I was young and stupid. Med school isn't that bad-I can treat patients and save their lives."

He didn't tell Xavier the truth.

Ever since Yvette had come back, he had been studying her hearing issues and the bleeding in her ear. He wanted to become a doctor as soon as possible and try to help her become normal again. That was the only thing he could do for her as of now.

Xavier could tell that Tristan was hiding something. However, he chose not to pry

He picked up his phone and saw Yvette's text. Initially, he had thought it would be an apology. To his dismay, she had only informed him that she was heading over to her friend's place again.

Tristan leaned over. "Is Yvette checking on you?"

"She said she's off to a friend's," he replied blankly.

"Oh," Tristan was thinking. "Is it that friend Kiki Torres?" "Yeah,"

"My grandfather keeps trying to get me to meet her."

'Is she not up to your standards?" Xavier raised his eyebrows slightly.

"Not really my type."

Upon hearing this, Xavier offered him a word of advice. "You don't necessarily need to marry someone you like. What matters most is that you complement each other." Tristan couldn't help but ask, "Does Yvette complement you then, Xav?"

Xavier fell silent for a moment. "She used to.

"Are you no longer getting along?"

Xavier didn't respond. He emptied the contents of his glass and said, "I should be heading back."

Tristan wasn't satisfied. Right as Xavier was about to leave, he asked again, "Is it possible to be happy if I'm with someone I don't love, Xav?"

Xavier stared at him quizzically.

Tristan continued, "If you're not happy in the relationship, I think it's better if you just break it off. It'll be better for both of you."

Unlike Xavier, Tristan thought that they should marry someone they liked. If he had to marry for his career, he would be miserable his entire life!

After Xavier got in the car, he thought about what Tristan had said. Then, he looked at the text Yvette had sent him.

After thinking about it for a long time, he sent her a reply.

"Okay."
