Eric looked awkward. "I was just being honest. Anyway, I'm her brother-in-law. I'm just teaching her some tips and tricks. It's not like I'm going to push her off a cliff or anything."
Tiffany frowned. She didn't want to explain herself to Eric, but she still subconsciously didn't want anything to smear Vincent's reputation. She said, "Mr. Lewis' girlfriend gave the soup to me." "His girlfriend?" Eric's smile froze. "He already has a girlfriend?"
"Yeah. They're going to marry soon."
Eric's smile disappeared. It soon returned, though. "That's only normal, of course. Successful men always have more than one woman in their lives.
"Sometimes, the wives don't even stand a chance against the mistresses. You're young and pretty, so you have many chan-"
Teresa cut him off. "I want some warm water, Eric. Go get some."
Once Eric was gone, Teresa asked, "Eric's just being dumb, right? Be honest with me, Tiff. Or does that boss of yours really have those intentions toward you?"
She was worried about Tiffany. She didn't want Tiffany to go down the wrong path and was also worried someone would set their nasty sights on her.
In her mind, Vincent was a middle-aged man with a bulging beer belly. Men like that were generally lechers who loved flirting with pretty young women in their companies. Tiffany shook her head. "No, he doesn't. He already has a girlfriend."
"That doesn't mean he won't go around flirting with other women."
"He won't. Mr. Lewis isn't like that." Tiffany didn't even realize that she'd already subconsciously sided with Vincent. She was afraid others would misunderstand him and badmouth him.
Teresa wasn't convinced-perhaps it was because Eric constantly mentioned this. She reminded Tiffany to be careful before picking up the bowl of chicken soup.
She took a few sips before saying, "This actually tastes pretty good. Your boss' girlfriend seems to be pretty good in the kitchen. Why did he give it to you, though?"
"He doesn't like chicken soup," Tiffany said listlessly.
Teresa was puzzled. "He doesn't like chicken soup, but his girlfriend made it for him? Are they really dating?"
Tiffany was the one puzzled now. It was a question that had occurred to her earlier in the day when Vincent had told Kelly that he didn't like chicken soup.
Kelly had told her she and Vincent had been dating for over a year, which wasn't a short time. But why was it that Kelly hadn't even known about Vincent not liking chicken soup? Even if Tiffany didn't like Eric, she knew his tastes for certain things because they'd lived together for a few years.
Still, this was none of her business.
She didn't want to spend too much time thinking about it. She waved hand and said, "Maybe she got it wrong because she was busy with other things. Is it good? Let me try some."
Teresa scooped a spoonful of the chicken soup and held it up to Tiffany's lips.
It really was delicious. Kelly was a surprisingly good cook. At the same time, she felt sorry for Vincent. It was a shame that he couldn't enjoy such delicious soup. Well, at least she could enjoy it on his behalf.
After finishing the soup, Tiffany went to the bathroom to wash the thermos flask. When she came back out, Teresa was peeling an orange. She put the slices on a piece of tissue and held them out. "I peeled these for you, Tiff." She smiled at Tiffany dotingly.
I
"You've always hated peeling oranges; you refused to eat them until I peeled them for you. I kept telling you that you had to learn to peel them, but you've never listened."
Tiffany felt a little like crying when she saw the orange slices. "Are you really not going to consider the divorce anymore, Teri?"
Teresa faltered. Then, she looked up
at Tiffany and said, "You're still young, Tiff so you don't know how important a marriage is to a woman. Eric may not have the best temper, but he's doing everything he can for our family."
"But he laid a hand on you..." Tiffany's eyes turned red.
A man who could lay a hand on a woman would never be a man of good character. She wasn't married, but she knew this was true.
Teresa smiled. "He only pushed me;
En
it was an honest mistake. Besides, he sincerely apologized to me before you came and told me he would change. That's what marriage is like you'll know what I meanwhen you're married."
Tiffany still felt glum. "If that's what marriage is like, I'd rather stay single forever."
