Tiffany blinked her eyes. "Mr. Lewis, even you make mistakes?"
Vincent chuckled. "Why wouldn't I? I'm just an ordinary person, after all." His gaze lingered on Tiffany, sending a blush creeping up her cheeks.
Feeling a pang of embarrassment, she mumbled, "I'm so sorry, Mr. Lewis. I always seem to be a bother."
Vincent raised an eyebrow. "Honestly, I'm not a big fan of trouble."
Did he replace her a bother?
He chuckled and said, "Except for some reason, your problems never seem like problems at all."
Tiffany looked down, unsure how to respond.
A hint of blush rose on her pale face, and Vincent smiled reassuringly. "Don't overthink it; I'm just a blunt kind of guy. No hidden messages, just honesty." The warmth in the room made Tiffany drowsy.
She peeked at Vincent, who remained on the chair, engrossed in his phone. It seemed that he wasn't going to leave anytime soon.
A moment later, Vincent stirred. Tiffany blurted out, "Please don't feel obligated to stay, Mr. Lewis."
Vincent paused, and a hint of amusement flashed through in his eyes. "Are you trying to rush me out?"
"No, not at all..." Tiffany stammered, her voice barely a whisper.
She continued, "It's late, and you have work tomorrow. You should get some rest."
Vincent turned to her and gently tucked the blanket around her. "I'll stay a little longer until you fall asleep, then I'll leave." "There's no need for that..."
"You're alone in the dorm. What if you get a fever in the middle of the night? There wouldn't be anyone here to help." Vincent's dark eyes held a reassuring warmth. "Even if I went back, I wouldn't be at ease knowing you were here alone." Tiffany couldn't argue.
"Don't worry," Vincent said softly, patting her shoulder. "I'll leave once you're asleep. Now, get some rest."
He rose and turned off the lights, leaving only a soft glow from the bedside lamp. Tiffany lay awake for a while, listening to the occasional tap-tap-tap of his phone.
Soon, her eyelids grew heavy, and she drifted off to sleep.
...
Vincent finished working, only to realize it was already quite late. He put his phone away and gazed at Tiffany's sleeping face for a moment, a hint of longing crossing his features. en Narugi
"Why do I feel so drawn to you?" he murmured to himself.
He reached out and gently stroked her cheek.
"If only it had been you that night," he whispered, a touch of regret lingering in his voice.
On Alex's side, it was also late at night before he finished. The lack of evidence had meant both Kelly and Briama had walked free after their denials.
Kelly got into the car with a cold expression. The engine roared to life as she barked a question at Alex. "Where is Mr. Lewis?"
Alex started the car and replied emotionlessly, "You'll need to ask him yourself."
Kelly scoffed. "You think I wouldn't dare to do it?"
She whipped out her phone and dialed Vincent's number. The call only rang twice before being cut off, and her second attempt went straight to voicemail. Kelly's face swelled with anger. "Take me to Atwood University! I need to replace Mr. Lewis now!"
