‘Beep Beep…Beep, Beep.’
I opened my eyes slowly. They felt like they were glued together. My hand automatically went to my eyes, and of course, I was right. There was crust in the corners of my eyes. I looked to see my white ceiling but squinted to see a bed canopy position above. I scrunched my eyebrows together, wondering why that was there. It must be because I was still dreaming, so I reached for my alarm clock and tapped it off. The annoying noise stopped. I rolled back onto my back again and stared at the odd surrounding above me. But shook myself as I had a weird dream, floating island school, Immortals, Lycanthropes that was all nonsense. Though I kept laying there in my bed, it was different, but I couldn’t place why. Something was off. I looked at the other side of my bed, and there was another bed.
A girl was sleeping there, and she looked peaceful. She had brown hair and looked vaguely familiar. Till it dawned on me that the girl was Emily from my dreams. How was that even possible? She wasn’t supposed to exist. I quickly pinched myself.
“Ow.”
Okay, this was not a dream…this was real.
I got up, set both of my feet on the warm floor, and rested in a slouching position. How was she really realizing this was not a dream. Seemingly how did she not wake up from the alarm? I looked closer, earbuds.
I looked around the room; the couches and drawers along with the coffee table were still there. I sucked in a breath as I tried gripping reality. I needed to splash water onto my face, so I got up and headed to the door by Emily bed. Anything would help with this so-called reality. I stepped quietly around her bed and turned the knob and the door smoothly opened. I walked in and went straight for the white prism sink. I turned the faucet on, took a hand full of water splashed my face, it made me wake a bit, but I was still in this world. Oh well.
I peeked through my eyelids as the water dripped down my forehead and eyed a towel. I reached for it and glanced at my reflection, and stopped dead in my tracks. I blankly stared at my reflection and still not believing what I saw.
I no longer have my dark curly hair and green eyes but dirty blonde wavy hair and blood-red eyes. I didn’t know what to think. Was this actually me? Or something else happening. All I saw was this different woman who was staring back at me. I wondered if my eyes were playing tricks on me. I rubbed them just to check, and yet there I was still. I could not make sense of myself or this flipping of a world.
Soon I heard screaming, and shortly later, I realized it was me who was screaming at myself in the mirror. Moments later, Emily entered the room looking scared as I may be getting attacked or hurting myself.
“What? What is wrong?” she questioned, she tried reaching for me, but instantly I pulled away.
Immediately started crying. Emily reached for me again, this time capturing me in her arms, and we both fell to the floor, allowing sharp pain for a second to pulse through my legs. I felt paralyzed, I couldn’t move, nothing made any sense allowing me to freeze. I looked at Emily, and she only had a concerned face, but soon it turned sympathetic, and she smiled, but we sat there silent for a while.
Almost a way to calm me. Eventually, she gave me space leaning back giving a bit of air between us. She then extended her hand towards me and lightly touched my knee while I just sat there. Thinking over what had happened, I am an immortal, and I have changed. I guess this was real.
I looked up at Emily again.
“Everything okay? What happened?” she asked.
“A crashed reality, a dream that is actually true,” I replied.
We sat there in silence again.
Eventually, which felt like forever but was only a couple of minutes, Emily helped me up to my feet and faced me.
“Is there anything I can do to help? Making the transition any better?” She was sympathetic, and I actually appreciated it. From the tone of her voice, she was gentle, and I could tell she was not rude. She honestly felt sorry for me.
“I don’t know what you can do. Honestly, I don’t even know myself.”
“That is completely understandable, but I don’t want to be rude, but we should get ready for class,” she silent for a second. “Since we have less than two hours now,” she hesitated, “I hate to say something, but I thought this was how you looked.” She confessed.
I laughed, “no, I was a brunette, and my skin was not as stunning” I laughed again. She joined in, soon gestured me to the bed. I followed and was welcomed by the nice warm floor again. I turned and saw she entered the bathroom again. She saw that I glanced at her.
“Sorry…but I need to shower.” And she closed the door. Soon I heard the water running. I only stood there for a moment, considering what to do. I mean, I could stand here and do nothing, but what would that do? Eventually, I looked at my dresser and soon found myself walking towards it.
Standing, I saw how rich the material was and placed a hand on it, already feeling the smoothness. It was a bit cool. Top drawer school clothes, I reminded myself. I reached down and grabbed the dresser metal handle. It almost bit against my skin on how cool it was. I slowly opened up the drawer and looked down with there staring up at me in the face was blacks skirts on the right, white shirts in the middle and silver and black tie on the right.
Where were the blazers? I thought randomly.
I reached for the white shirts and pulled one out. I lifted it to my face to get a better look. The fabric felt nice and smooth, not itchy. I looked like it could fit me. I set it on the top of the dresser. Soon the water stopped, and a moment later, the door opened, and I turned to see Emily coming out with wet hair and wearing a bathrobe. She had a towel and was drying her hair. I turned back towards my dresser, picked out the skirt and tie, and placed them on each other.
Questioning myself, was I really going to attend this school and learn about a new light that I thought did not exist? Emily soon beside me, and I looked at her again. She too stared at my clothing.
“Are you able to survive today?...and don’t worry, they fit you?” she asked and assured me.
I shrugged and laughed, grabbing everything that I put on top and headed to the bathroom. Once I entered, I looked at myself in the mirror again and shivered. I got dressed and put my new clothes on.
But the time I dressed and walked out of the bathroom, Emily had dried her hair and was dressed. she placed herself lounging on one of the couches, possibly waiting on me.
She turned and smiled at me, then pointed to a closet by the bookshelf. “Shoes are in there pick which one you like to wear, and blazers are hanging in there.”
Nodding in response, I walked over, opened the creaking closet door and saw flats, laced up shoes and heels. All three looked descent. I went with the flats. Picking them up and slipped the surprising comfortable leather on. I turned to Emily, and she rose from her spot.
“You look good, soon you will be ready to conquer life”, she joked.
I smiled at her attempt, “I appreciate it.”
“Good,” she went to the closet, passing by me and reached for a bag and blazer, it was a knapsack that reminded me little early 1940′s. I slipped the blazer on.
She gestured it to me, “This is your school bag, it has a notebook and pencil, along with a textbook.”
I took it and was surprised by how light it was. I swung it over my shoulder and followed Emily out the door and down the hall to the outside. As soon as we were outside and headed to whatever direction. I saw some other students going with our flow of walking. While a cool but warm temperature of wind brushed our faces. We walked upon a cobblestone path that had an uneven elevation to it. I looked up and saw we were nearing the fountain from yesterday but quickly turned right around a brick building. I watched as we were welcomed by a cathedral-like entrance with gran metal doors and intricate designs in the stone.
I saw students entering through the doors. I walked a little faster to keep up with Emily, and by then, we were welcomed into the building.
Instantly some stained glass caught my attention high and above of the same woman with purple skin. She looked elegant as her dress seemed to flow around her. Walking throughout the hallway lit by gas lamps, there were four more stained glass windows, and I couldn’t help admiring them with a glance. It showcased the goddesses herself surrounded by what assumed are the elements. But short-lived when Emily hastily guided me up the staircase as I started bumping into people. I apologized to a few passing by, but it seemed like they didn’t care.
I analyzed the second level, the hall was not bricks or stones but covered in old looking wallpaper that only appeared somewhat faded cream red colour. The hallway itself was a bit more narrow but big enough for multiple students.
Finally, Emily stopped me by a door and led me in. To my surprise, it looked like a medieval classroom with wooden tables and chair with large windows showcasing the clouds outside.
The classroom had a backboard, and a dark brown wooden desk for what assured me was for the teacher. The classroom seemed decent, it had enough space for a lot of students. Emily guided me to a table in the middle part of the class, we sat down in surprising comfortable wooden chairs. I looked around the room once more time till my gaze fell onto someone in the back. A man who had golden-green eyes that took me aback for a bit as I did not expect that.
Wolf was sitting there reading something, but only briefly looked up at me. That made me catch my breath. As a huge electric current pulse me towards him, it seemed to affect him as well as he stared at me curiously. I shoved it down.
This must be a class he has to attend. Though a curious thought went through my head. What was this class? Shouldn’t they have told me? I leaned over to Emily.
“What class is this?”
She facepalmed, “I am sorry, completely forgot to give you the list” she searched through her bag and fumbled a piece of paper to me. I took it.
Magic Arts
Combat tactics
Herbology
Immortal studies.
Okay, I thought, these are some classes. I shrugged it off and turned to get my notebook out and found myself staring at Wolf again, especially with those golden-green eyes the caught my attention. He seemed to be studying me with a curious, thoughtful face, and I quickly turned around, already feeling warm in the cheeks.
Moments later, more students piled into the classroom, allowing the class to be maxed filled. Some of these students wore necklaces, wristbands, or rings, while others did not like yesterday when I saw them swarm in the halls yesterday. This time, I could see the symbols better and confirmed that some were the same.
One specifically had a black background with what looked like a brown tree with swirling tiny branches. I assumed that may represent the earth. Soon a chimed bell rang, and a hypnotizing woman came in.
“Welcome class,” she almost sounded like she sang, but it was her voice and seemed normal.
“Good morning”, the class chimed back.
I watched the woman, she looked young, but she also looked to be in her 50′s. I couldn’t tell, yet I wasn’t closer to her to fully tell. Unless it meant that the true fact is Immortals don’t age, but that didn’t make sense, especially with Emily as she clearly was born and was not a grown-up. I may need to question that later.
“So today, class”, the lady stated, which snapped me out of my thoughts. I stared at her again. She was tall and wore a black dress that reached her thighs and had long sleeves off the shoulders. Her waist was emphasized, as her body was amazing. Her hair jet black and long-reaching her mid-back.
“We will be starting a new section learning about the elements.” She went to the board behind her and waved her hand that allowed white chalk to move, and a name appeared.
′Professor Valdis’
Soon under that, more lettering appeared.
′Magic Arts – Origins of Immortals and Elements’
Okay, I thoughts to myself.
Then Emily leaned over towards me and whispered, “the only time you need to take notes is when she asks you,” she leaned back and became engaged to Prof Valdis teaching.
“You are aware that these are four main elements,” she started, her voice so musical and began around the classroom.
