Vampire Shadows
Chapter 59

The sound of the sword falling from my hands and hitting the floor brought me back to reality. My sister was laying there, lifeless all because of me.

"Kendra!! Kendra!" I finally let out a cry, falling onto my knees so I could touch her. But a pair of strong hands stopped me midway!

“Don't even think about it!“ The Prince said. His voice was still cold but with rage attached.

"You did this! You killed your sister!" he said, reminding me of the fact that Kendra is dead and I'm responsible.

I tried to touch her once again but he wouldn't let me. Her eyes were wide open and it was clear that there was no life in them.

I can't believe I did this. I wish I saw her earlier.

“Please! Let me,” I said, I'm not sure about the prince but I'm sure every other person here can feel the pain in my voice. There were no tears, I was too hurt to cry or react in any way at all.

“Stay away” he yelled this time loud enough to make the building collapse.

He tucked Kendra's body in his arms then disappeared.

"No, guys he's taking Kendra away, I need my sister back! Won't you do something" I screamed before slowly breaking down in tears.

"Kara," Josh said, throwing his arms around me. Max and Heather slowly joined the hug.

“It's alright" I heard Max say.

"I want Kendra back! You have to help me get her" I wanted my sister back. I don't care what it'll take to bring her back but I wanted her. A moment ago, she was right in front of me, and now she's no more? That's fucking impossible. I wish I could go back in time, I wish I had just let the Prince get away with the stone. Kendra would have been pretty much alive.

The fact that she's no more, or the fact that I killed her I don't know which hurts more, but the fact that the Prince took her body from me is killing me. I couldn't hold my sister's body even once. not for a second.

“It's okay Kara!“ Josh said, trying to comfort me, he was the only one who was still hugging me.

"I want Kendra back. It's all my fault" I cried out

“No, no, it's not”

"I'm a murderer Josh, a murderer" I bit.

"I killed my own sister! My little sister Josh!"

"No don't say that, Kendra was in the wrong and you've done this only to save the world," he said, patting my back.

"Yes Kara, the prince would have gotten away with the stone if it wasn't for you," Heather said, giving me a reassuring smile.

“What?“ I asked, not getting what she just said about the stone.

“But I saw him taking the stone!“

"Yeah, he did that, but dropped it the moment… uhmmm Kendra fell," she said. Trying her best not to remind me about what I did to Kendra.

I stared at the stone in her hands.

Then at the blood staining the floor.

It wasn't worth it.

The stone is not worth my sister's life.

who cares if the stone wasn't taken by the prince? I've lost my sister and that's just the bitter truth. This has increased my level of hatred for the Prince. what has he done for Kendra to make all these sacrifices?

"Kara" Max hugged me tightly.

"You'll be fine. Your head is a mess and so is ours. Le leave this place"

"But Max, what of Kendra"

"Kara, we need to get the fuck out of here. Once the Prince comes back to his senses, he'll send an entire team after us, please, Kendra is gone” Heather said.

"Let's just go, please" Josh added.

"Fine"

We held on to each other and started our teleporting journey.

It took a little time to get to the witch's den, but at last, we were there.

"Oh, my, you guys are back!" Layla said giving each of us warm hugs.

She led us in.

They introduced Heather and talked all about what we went through.

I was still trying to wrap my head around the fact that I killed my sister.

I hate myself.

After Josh narrated the whole thing to Layla, she sat next to me and held my hands.

"Kara, oh dear, it wasn't your fault. It was an accident. And your sister would have done the same thing to you" Layla said, reaching out to me for a hug. I don't know if what she said was the truth or it was just meant to comfort me, if so, it didn't.

“It's I'll be, you all go freshen up. I'll go get dinner ready" Layla said.

I made my way to Jasmine's room. Heather was still outside so I had the space to myself. To cry my heart out, without anyone telling me that it'll be fine or what I did was okay.

I felt sick, I wish I had my mom.

.

“Kara, kara! Wake up“

"Huh? I'm awake!" I said to the voice that I'm quite sure belongs to Heather.

I looked around the dark room, trying to remember where I was.

Oh, right, we are in the witch's den. We got the stone and Kendra is dead.

"Let's go have dinner, you don't want to keep them waiting," Heather said, tapping me lightly.

“I'm not hungry” I mumbled.

“There's no way I'm taking that for an answer, princess” a manly voice said from behind. There's no way in the whole world I'll be able the forget that voice, the word princess.

"Nathan!!" I jumped out of bed running to the door where he was standing I gave him a big hug.

“You're okay, you really are okay!!“ I screamed. I could feel tears filling my eyes. I was so happy to see Nathan after such a long time. I'm glad he's okay. He's not hurt anymore, he's not unconscious.

"Of course, I'm fine princess, don't tell me you lost hope already!" He pouted. Oh God, I've missed him so much.

“Not even for a second. I knew you'll be fine” I said giving him another hug.

"Alright now, let's go have dinner," he said holding my arms and dragging me along. Heather followed quietly.

I kept looking at his stomach where he was stabbed. I slowly put my hands over his shirt just to make sure he was really fine.

“You still don't trust that I'm fine?" He questioned.

"I'm just so glad, and I want to make sure everything is okay," I said still staring at the place.

“See? nothing to worry about” he said, raising his shirt. Just as he claimed, there was nothing to worry about. Not even a scar.

"Hey! Pretty face," josh said, his face lighting up.

"Kara," Max said, making his way toward us and giving me a hug.

“Are you okay?“ He asked.

“Of course she's fine. right Kara?" Josh reassured. He was already seated. Along with Layla and jasmine.

"Yeah I'm fine," I said, also making my way to the table.

.

“Uhhmm, so now that we have the stone, what's next?" Heather chirped. This is the last thing I want to talk about.

“Destroy it. That's the only way to guarantee people's safety" Nathan suggested.

“Yes, it's the best option” Max backed him.

“Yes, that” was Josh's reply.

"I don't think it's a great idea," Heather said.

"We won't be destroying it," Layla said.

“Wait, why? Keeping it with us is a huge risk. The Prince can come and get it anytime" Josh complained. I was also in support of the stone being destroyed. I have seen the Prince and I know how powerful he is. He handled three great fighters without even doing anything.

Once he replaces us, we will all be doomed.

"I know that, but if he gets to know that the stone got destroyed, he'll still go on with the war. This time, he'll be more confident because he knows we can't stop him without the stone.

Layla pointed out.

Everyone seemed to agree.

“But if the prince was that desperate about the stone, why did he pick Kendra over the stone at the last moment," Jasmine said, dragging my attention to the question that I'd been avoiding.

Why will he pick Kendra and leave the stone behind? Kendra is of no use to him, and even if she was, He could have taken both her and the stone at the moment. It's not like we could do anything to stop him.

"Do, do you think the Prince brainwashed Kendra?" I asked, turning to Max, it was his prince after all.

“I don't know, but I don't think so” was his short honest reply.

"Why? Do you think she was working for him willingly?" I asked, the thought of Kendra attacking me without being compelled to made my heart sink. But then, who am I to judge the person whose chest I put a sword through? I'm the horrible person here, not Kendra.

"Well, for starters, the prince doesn't play such cheap tricks. And, if she was brainwashed, she would act more like a robot than a human" Josh offered.

"Look, Kendra did what she felt was right, and you did what was right on your path" Layla started.

"Let's focus on the fact that you won! We won! We have the stone , this means the prince isn't the only one with power.

We can protect our people and stay safe.

We can live in peace.

I gave her weak smile.

To be continued.
