Chapter 15

Spencer felt a little awkward as Lucille stared at him. This was his first time doing something so inappropriate in his life. He raised a fist to his mouth as he cleared his throat.

Lucille felt a little upset. She’d spent thousands of dollars on that lock and had only used it for two months. Yet he’d smashed it!

Spencer said, “I’ve already gotten it changed.”

Well, she couldn’t say much since he’d already replaced it. He wasn’t an outsider, after all. He was supposed to be her husband, even if it was only in name.

“I’ve temporarily set the password as the date we registered our marriage. You can change it later if you want,” he continued.

To his surprise, Lucille said, “No, it’s fine. We can just stick to that.”

She grabbed the water and gulped some before taking her medication. He watched. her and smiled warmly. He was happy that she hadn’t turned him down.

Spencer spent a little more time with Lucille, only leaving and heading back to his company when he was sure she was fine.“”

Lucille sat cross–legged on the couch as she hugged a throw pillow. She stared at the seat Spencer had just vacated. After a while, she exhaled deeply.

She was a little flustered and even anxious that someone had suddenly barged into her life. They’d agreed to stay out of each other’s lives, only appearing when the other needed help with something. But now… things weren’t turning out the way she’d expected them to.

She grabbed her hair in frustration before returning to her room. She wanted to take a shower before going to bed.

Lucille stood before the mirror in the bathroom and gaped at herself–she was in pajamas. She’d roamed the apartment in her pajamas, and she’d done it with Spencer watching the whole time. She hadn’t even noticed anything!

“Could you be any dumber, Lucille?” she screeched at herself. God, she was so embarrassed she could die. It drove all the sleep out of her.

Lucille soaked in the bathtub for a while. When she was done, she received a call from Bailey Moore, her best friend.

“How are you, Lucy baby? Do you miss the beautiful, lovely, and elegant Bailey Moore?” Bailey asked on the other end of the line. She sounded sharnelessly confident.

Lucille ignored her question. She couldn’t bring herself to answer it, anyway. Instead, she asked, “When will you be back?”

Bailey was miles away in Pairson. She said cheesily, “Oh, you heartless thing. I miss you so much–I want to wrap my arms around your dainty waist, and I miss how you smell. You have no idea how lonely I am, alone here in this strange city.”

Lucille was speechless. Before she could say anything, Bailey returned to normal and said, “I just saw the news of you calling off your engagement with Harold. It’s true, right?”

“Yeah.”

Bailey sounded a little worried as she asked, “Are you okay with letting him go?”

Lucille was calm. “Why not? It’s not like I loved him.”

Bailey thought about it. It made sense. Over the years, everyone had gotten the wrong idea about Lucille. Everyone thought that she refused to call off the

engagement because she was madly in love with Harold. She was the only one who knew Lucille had never loved the bastard.

Lucille told her about Sabrina’s attempted suicide and how she’d thrown Sabrina into the pond.

Bailey exclaimed, “Damn. I can’t believe the bitch is still alive!”

Lucille wasn’t surprised. It wasn’t a matter of luck. Sabrina wouldn’t have the guts to really take her life.

“Just wait, I’ll teach her a lesson when I’m back. I’ll let her enjoy a few more days of peace!” Bailey snickered.

Lucille chuckled. Okay.

Bailey was the only person in their circle whom Sabrina feared. Sabrina had never dared to talk back to Bailey.

Something occurred to Bailey. “I heard the Everett family is holding a plano recital for their scion at the end of this month. They’ve invited all of Whiteloop City’s scions and socialites, but that’s not all. I heard they’ve also invited Brian Olsen, that

internationally renowned pianist.”

Lucille hummed in acknowledgment. Bailey continued, “Here’s my point–Mr. Olsent is coming to replace himself an apprentice. Rumor has it he has his sights set on the Everett family scion and Sabrina.”

This was a piece of news she’d heard from a friend.

Lucille frowned and paused while reaching for her water. An apprentice? Still, she said calmly, “Oh,”

“I bet Sabrina’s gonna walk around with her nose in the air if Mr. Olsen really takes. her as his apprentice. And I’m sure she’s shameless enough to accept. She was shameless enough to steal the champion of that plano competition all those years ago, after all,” Bailey snarled..

Lucille sipped her water. “She wouldn’t be who she is if she didn’t act shameless.

“You’re right. I can’t believe Harold and the Johnsons think she’s some precious. treasure. They’re so blind and dumb!” Balloy was more upset than Lucille when it came to Harold and the Johnson family. She couldn’t stop herself from complaining about them.

“Oh, forget it. Let’s not talk about them. How are you? Have you gotten injured recently?” Bailey switched the subject.

Lucille looked at her bandaged left hand and lied, “No.”

She had no intention of telling Balley about her and Spencer. She didn’t want to scare Bailey.
