Chapter 24

The door to the Kingston Room was pushed open. The people sitting inside all turned their gazes to the two people who just entered.

Spencer was holding Lucille’s hand. He looked regal and handsome, while she looked austere and beautiful. They were quite a match.

Lucas, Ethan, and Zachary had already seen Lucille and knew about her.

But what they didn’t know was that Lucille also knew things about them.

After she got legally married to Spencer, she looked into his background. Naturally, she also looked into the few gentlemen sitting here. However, it seemed like one of them wasn’t here today.

Unexpectedly, the sons of Whiteloop’s most revered aristocratic families were actually best friends in private.

It was truly surprising. After all, no one had exposed their friendship before. It seemed like their public relations teams were doing a good job at keeping this under wraps.

Like a gentleman, Spencer pulled a chair out for Lucille. Only after she had taken her seat did he sit

down next to her.

When Ethan saw this, he ran his tongue over the back of his teeth while giving them a probing gaze. Tsk tsk! You’re going to bombard us with public displays of affection right off the bat?”

In the next second, he saw two pairs of eyes rolling at him.

Ethan was speechless.

Zachary burst into unceremonious laughter. He crossed his arms and kicked his legs up, leaning back in his chair like a mafia boss.

Then, Spencer patiently introduced each and every one of them to her.

After the introductions were over, he added, “There’s one more. He’s the oldest among us, but we have

to wait a while.”

“Okay.”

Zachary raised an eyebrow. Narrowing his gaze, he said, “Spence, how come I never knew you were capable of being gentle?”

Ethan quickly chimed in. “Exactly. I’ve never seen him display an ounce of gentleness before.” He then shifted his gaze to Lucille and smirked slightly. “Luce, you’re quite the charmer.”

Lucille hesitated briefly before putting on a polite smile. After all, these were Spencer’s friends. She couldn’t be wearing a cold expression all the time. “Thanks,” she said. She did not know what to say to that.

Ethan was also at a loss for words. That “thanks” was far from polite.

“Luce, can I ask you something?” Even though it was their first time meeting officially, Ethan was

Even if Lucille wasn’t used to hearing that, she had no other choice. Smiling faintly, she said, “Sure.”

“Do you know martial arts?” Ethan asked, staring straight at her. He found the memory of that night at Nightvale Club curious and unforgettable. How could a woman as skinny as her be so strong? She had beaten three burly men to a pulp and got away relatively unscathed save for a slash across her

palm.

Although those three men weren’t exactly trained, there was still a gap between a man’s and a woman’s strength. Moreover, there were three of them against one of her.

Lucille gave it a couple of seconds of thought. “You could say that.”

Once again, Ethan was stunned into silence. What kind of answer was that?

The others glanced at each other.

Feeling like perhaps she had said too little, Lucille added, “I learned Muay Thai, wrestling, boxing, and also kickboxing.”

Ethan’s eyes grew as wide as saucers.

Zachary cupped his jaw.

Lucas pushed his glasses up his nose.

She just casually revealed that about herself.

Even the always calm and composed Spencer was a little caught off–guard. Suddenly, he was reminded of how she had easily lifted Sabrina and tossed her into the lake at the hospital the other

day.

When Lucille saw how they all said nothing, she narrowed her eyes and asked coolly, “What’s the matter?”

If these weren’t Spencer’s friends, she would not have said it out loud.

“Impressive. It’s always good to have these skills,” Spencer praised. He was smiling at her.

The others felt goosebumps rise on their skin. They gaped at Spencer with strange expressions while wondering if he had a brain tumor.

Was he looking for a wife or a bodyguard?

Spencer ignored them. He courteously topped up Lucille’s glass with water and said gently, “Drink some water. You’ve been talking so much.”

Unafraid of the consequences, Zachary retorted, “She hasn’t even spoken 30 words since she walked through the door. Spence, are you deaf?

Lucille was stunned into silence. 1

Ethan kicked Zachary under the table. Cocking an eyebrow, he said, “Watch your mouth, and watch your ribs.”

This time, it was Zachary’s turn to be speechless.

“Ignore them. Just drink,” Spencer continued softly.

He really was treating them as though they were invisible.

Meanwhile, Lucas never joined the banter. He only enjoyed watching their foolishness.

At that moment, the door opened once again.

Lucille instinctively raised her head to look at the door. When she saw a familiar silhouette at the door, she wondered if such a coincidence was possible.
