Lucille shook her head at that and said, “Let’s hope you won’t back down if that day does come.”

She knew what Bailey was like–she was all talk and no action.

Bailey asked, “Speaking of which, you and Spencer didn’t spend the night at Layton Manor after making a trip there? And you even returned to your respective homes after that? Are you two really married?”

Lucille thought about what Spencer had told her before she’d gotten out of the car last night. He’d held her hand and gazed lovingly into her eyes. “Move in with me. Or, I can move in with you.”

She’d been wholly stunned. She’d yet to mentally prepare herself to live with him, after all. Because of that, Spencer had given her a promise to make her less anxious.

He said, “Don’t worry. I won’t touch a hair on your head before you’re completely ready. I just want to get to know you and care for you better. Besides, you have to get used to my presence in your life sooner or later…”

When Lucille didn’t respond, Bailey called her name a few times. When she still didn’t receive an answer, she got up and approached Lucille.

She leaned close and said, “Wake up. Are you daydreaming about him or something?”

Lucille returned to her senses and gave Bailey an exasperated look. Then, she said, “I’m not ready for anything like that yet.”

Bailey cried, “Are you out of your mind? Don’t you know that you have an advantage over everyone else right now? Mr. Layton is handsome and has a good figure–countless women want to sleep with him!

“You, on the other hand, turned him down when he’s the one who wants to sleep with you! Think about what a great opportunity this is. What could you possibly be waiting for?”

Lucille didn’t think she could continue talking about this with someone whose mind was filled with dirty thoughts. Ultimately, she pushed Bailey out of her office and locked the door.

Bailey stood by the door and said, “Listen to me, babe. Get things over and done with as soon as possible, okay? Don’t drag things out and leave him hanging for too long.”

Lucille didn’t respond. She called Marie and told her about Spencer as well as the trip to Layton Manor.

Marie was overjoyed upon hearing everything. “This is great! I’ll be happy as long as you two get along well.” It was evident that Marie was delighted with how things had turned out.

Lucille was curious to know how Marie had contacted the Laytons and arranged the blind date, so she asked, “Can I ask you something, Grandma?”

Before she could ask the actual question, Marie had already guessed what it was. “You want to know how

managed to set you up on this blind date, right?”

“Yeah.” Then, a hint of surprise flashed in Lucille’s eyes when Marie told her everything. She hadn’t expected the truth to be like this.

Meanwhile, at the sanitorium, a middle–aged woman approached Marie with a shawl.

As she bent down to lay it over Marie’s legs, she said, ‘Oh, you. You know very well how easy it is for you.

to catch a cold, yet you don’t care about keeping yourself warm. Ms. Lucy will nag you for this again.”

Marie looked unfazed. She grinned and said, “Lucy just called me, Casey.”

The middle–aged woman was Casey Grant, who’d cared for Marie for decades now. She’d moved out with Marie when the latter had left the Johnson residence.

Casey could see how happy Marie looked, which also put her in a good mood. She asked, “Did Ms. Lucy say something funny to make you so happy?”
