Chapter 49

“You… you… what do you mean?

Lucille looked at them calmly. “I mean, you either tell us who’s behind this or you go to the police. Your choice.”

The five women felt completely overwhelmed by Lucille’s imposing presence. After all, they were just college students. They found it hard to withstand the intimidating vibe that Lucille exuded.

Moreover, they had been assured that the situation wouldn’t escalate.

Still, one of them spoke up bravely. “Don’t you dare try to intimidate us. Your product is the problem. We only want compensation.”

Lucille raised an eyebrow, observing the college girl with a critical gaze. “She’s not dumb, but why is she being so simple–minded?” Lucille thought.

“If our product is the problem, why are only the five of you affected? It’s been almost an hour, and no new victims have come forward.

“You’re not children; you’re college students. You should have the sense to see that this doesn’t add up. “Since you’re still students, I’ll be lenient if you come clean. If not, you’ll have a criminal record. Your college might expel you. You have five minutes to decide,” Lucille said bluntly.

They hadn’t expected their identities to be discovered. The thought of having a criminal record and getting expelled scared them.

One of them finally confessed, “We… we don’t know who he is. Three days ago, we met a man on the street. He gave us a box of perfume and offered us 50,000 dollars to make a video.

“We didn’t know it was to frame your company. He gave us a script. We recorded the video and sent it to his email.”

Samuel was astonished and speechless. “So, you did this for 50,000 dollars? You even risked ruining your faces?” he asked incredulously.

“Don’t you have any common sense? You’re educated. Didn’t you know defamation is a crime?” Samuel couldn’t help but lecture them.

The women hung their heads low, feeling even more ashamed. They couldn’t believe they had been so foolish.

Lucille asked, “What did he look like?

They shook their heads. One said, “We don’t know. He wore a mask, glasses, and a hat. He was covered up. If it hadn’t been on a public street and we hadn’t been a group of five, we wouldn’t have agreed to do it.

Lucille frowned. It seemed the man had been prepared

One of the women suddenly recalled something important. “I remember he had a burn mark on the back of his hand. That’s all we know.”

Lucille knew they had told her everything they knew. “One last question. Where did he replace you?Lucille

“On Beckett Street, in front of a place called Smoked Delights.”

After getting the answers she needed, Lucille stood up to leave.

Seeing this, the women quickly asked, “What about us?

Lucille didn’t respond. Instead, Samuel spoke up, “You should be grateful that Ms. Johnson is kind and keeps her word.”

He turned to Monica and said, “Ms. Lawrence, take them out and get them checked at the hospital.”

Monica replied, “Yes, Mr. Sawyer.”

“Follow me, please,” Monica said politely to the women.

Kenneth, who was standing beside Samuel, remarked, “Ms. Johnson is awesome.

Samuel smiled proudly. “She is.”

Kenneth was speechless.
