Chapter 33

Kasens POV

As soon as Samantha linked me that they were being attacked, we shifted into gear. We didn’t bother with cars. We took to the forest in our wolf forms. I had gathered both of our Betas; Josh and Jake, Marcus, both mine and sams dad, Alpha Aaron and Carson volunteered to go, and a few warriors.

I had suspicions that it was Bear shifters. I alerted duke and Theo and they would be waiting here for us to bring everyone back and to wait for the other lunas and guests that joined them at the mall to return.

I shifted into my jet-black wolf and so did everyone else. I was surprised to see me, and Carson look similar other than he has a white spot around his eye. Unique coloring for sure.

We got to the edge of the territory and saw a Cream and Sable wolf we know to be Mom and Lucy running towards us. Lucy seems to be limping and favoring her front paw. I link them and they run into their mate’s embrace and sift their muzzles through their fur.

“Mom, where are Samantha and Gemma?” I linked her.

“She ordered us to run to the palace. We were injured. They hit the SUV from the side and the damn thing flipped so many times. Lucy broke her arm and I got cut up by the glass. She didn’t want us in any more danger. We couldn’t refuse her command, son.” She says.

Dammit, Samantha. She can’t do this alone, but I am happy she thought to send our mothers to safety.

“Which way were they?” I asked back. She linked me back to follow them and I barked in response. I let loose a howl for everyone to follow. You could hear the thundering of our paws hitting the ground. We got close enough to where we could pick up on everyone’s scents. I was right its bear shifters.

I finally see the Suburban and it looks totaled. Im astonished anyone walked away from it. I hear a gunshot and a yelp and I growl loudly. I jump into action and see a bear shifter, a Brown wolf laying on the ground whimpering and bleeding, and Samantha hovering over him protectively.

Gemma and The other guard they were assigned are finishing their fights with their shifters and I order everyone to help with them. I hear the bear shifter call them stupid mutts and saw him spit and raise the gun up and aim to shoot again.

I didn’t even hesitate. I charged after him and Leapt up and latched onto his neck. I started to do shake him trying to snap his neck. My teeth sunk deep into his skin.

He roared loudly and started to shift into his bear form. He wants nearly as big a Theo but I wouldn’t underestimate him. We lunged at each other, jaws snapping, teeth clamping down on fur and skin. I wouldn’t lose. Jake, Josh, my dad, and David join in on my fight while Alpha Aaron, Carson and the other warriors help Gemma and The guard. He goes down easily and I can’t help myself. I want to rip him limb from limb for even thinking of shooting my mate.

Jake runs to Sam. Suddenly I hear her scream and I stop my attack.

“Kasen, she’s going into shock from adrenaline loss” Jake links me. I shift, and a warrior hands me a pair of shorts. I run over to her and take her in my arms. After calming her down she passed out in my arms. I carried her over to where the wounded guard was.

“How is he?” I asked and they said he was critical but would make it. I crouched down to him.

“Thank you for saving my mate.” His wolf whimpered in pain but bowed his head.

“I am grateful for you and in debited to you.” I place my hand on his head and bow to him. I don’t usually bow unless someone deserves my respect. He didn’t think twice. He jumped infront of a bullet to save his queen.

“Take the remaining hostages in for questioning and to the Cells. Let’s get back to the pack.”

Now I’m pissed. They attacked my family and plotted against me. If there was ever a doubt that this could be settled peacefully, it’s gone now. War is coming. I cradle my mate in my arms, take in her scent and we head home.

“We will come out on top, Kasen. We will protect our mate. We will protect our family. We will protect our kingdom” Atlas growls at me. I agree with him. This is going to end, and it is going to end soon.

Theos POV

I was nervous to see which of my father’s warriors they would bring back, if anyone survived at all. It is a death wish to attack Samantha. As strong of a bond as she and Kasen have, let alone her and her Twin have. I feel bad for any bear shifter there.

Word had gotten to the other Guards that were guarding the other Lunas, and women that decided to take a day trip as well. It was genuinely needed. War is a stressful time and sometimes you just need time to unwind. I had a feeling an attack was coming or at least a sighting. Especially with Kasen and Samantha’s Mating Ceremony and the Coronation coming up. The last of the Lunas had arrived on the pack lands and Duke looked to be linking someone. His eyes hazed over.

“Mr Theo, Can we go play now?” Rosie asked me. She doesn’t know that Marcy is gone. Hell, she probably wouldn’t care from what I have heard of the Situation. My bear has come to love the little wolf.

“Right now, we have to wait for your uncle to come back. After that how about we sneak to the kitchen for ice cream?” her face lights up and she gives me the biggest smile. I feel a hand on my shoulder and sparks flowing over my skin. My bear rumbles in delight.

“Any word yet?” I asked him.

“Rosie, why don’t you go wash up and get ready for dinner?” Duke told her. She nodded her head, but I winked at her for our deal. After she was out of earshot I looked at him again. His black hair and blue eyes mesmerized me.

“It was Bear Shifters. One was killed on site. Im sure you can imagine why. They have two being brought in for questioning. I don’t know names or anything. One warrior was shot with a silver bullet. He’s in critical condition, but I think he’ll pull through. From what Kasen told me, he had jumped in front of Sam to take the bullet for her. Sam went into shock from everything and passed out. They’re on their way back now.”

I nod at him. I’m glad he and Kasen are working to repair their relationship. I start to drift off into thought. Family is important, but when your family is threatening the entire supernatural society, you have to make difficult choices. At what point do you say “Enough is Enough!”?

I know my going against my father and brothers will wreck our relationship beyond repair. It kills me to know that the only family I have now is my mate and my mate’s family. Though they have been very welcoming. I won’t ever get to be close with my mother again. My brothers are plotting my death, my father has his Armies searching for me to bring me in for being a traitor. But am I really a traitor or are they? I am doing what’s right for everyone. At least, I am trying to. ‘This is the right thing to do.

‘Family or not. We know what’s right and what’s wrong. This is the goddess’s plan.’ My bear Angelo said to me.

He was against the attacks from our family the whole time. The moment I found out what they were up to I tried to get as close as I could. Tried to gather as much information. I was caught red handed though. That was the night I lost all respect for my father and my brothers. They had whipped me, stabbed me, scarred me. All because I wanted to do what’s right. Even with my fast healing, I have scars from being stabbed. They even carved Traitor onto my shoulder blade.

I felt a hand on my cheek, and I was brought out of my thoughts.

“Where did you go just now, mate?” he asked.

“Just thinking about family, and everything that led up to now. I’m Scarred, Duke. My family was more interested in their own personal gain. Too power hungry. They were already leaders and Royals for the kingdom, but it wasn’t enough. And to think they were willing to kill their own son for it…”

I trailed off. He took both of my cheeks in his hands and kissed me. It was tender and loving. We broke apart and I rested my head on his shoulder and he trailed his fingertips under my shirt and over my scars.

“Your scars prove that you are a fighter. That you are strong. That you have the power to overcome. I love you for that. They don’t deserve to be called your family.” He said as he hugged me. I leaned into him. Purely happy to have him in my life.

‘I want our mate.’ Angelo had said to me.

‘Soon, soon. Now is not the time.’ I scolded.

We were brought out of our own bubble to a commotion outside. Walking out, we see they have gotten back. Sam was carried by Kasen, the doctor ran out to check on her then moved along to the warrior who was shot. He was still in wolf form, being carried in on a stretcher. He was alive, but he didn’t look to good. His whimpers dug a knife into me. At least, that’s what it felt like. I will avenge this entire kingdom for them. They didn’t deserve any of this. No one did. My family would pay.

I growled lowly from all the anger I felt and I felt duke rub my arm, instantly calming me down.

“Jake debrief Duke and Theo. I am taking Sam to our room to rest. I will be down when she is settled. Josh, stand guard in the hospital. I want to know the condition of Bryan. Updates every 30 minutes, please. When he is awake I would like to meet with him. You keep an eye on him. Marcus, Take the prisoners to the cells. Get them ready for interrogation. No one is to talk to them until I get down there.” He said in his Alpha tone, leaving no room for arguing. Command or not, he is a great king. Well loved by all of his pack members, family, friends, and kingdom.

Everyone bowed and got to their tasks. As they were bringing the prisoners down I noticed one was familiar. He used to be a good friend of mine until I was caught.

“Well, well, well, if it isn’t the little fag himself. Betraying your own family and kingdom for these measly wolves?” he asked me.

“These MEASLY wolves just took you down without a second thought. These MEASLY wolves knocked you on your a*s. Not such a tough guy now, huh? I may be gay, but I know I’m strong enough to kill you with my eyes closed. I hope I get to do your interrogation.” I said with a smirk on my face. He knows I’m stronger than him. He shut his mouth real quick and was shoved forward to be secured in prison.

“What happened, Jake?” Duke asked.

“Sam said that they were being tailed by a few black sedans. They rearended them a few times. When they picked up speed to try to get away, they were hit from the side by another sedan. Their SUV rolled. Your mom and my mom are okay minus broken bones and bruises. Sam ordered them to leave. Gemma and the two warriors with them stayed to fight. Gemma is safe, one of the warriors took a bullet for Sam. She took it hard. After the adrenaline wore off she went into shock. She wouldn’t leave the warrior. She was huddled over his wolf screaming for us to save him. Even growled when we tried to pull her away. She’s okay. Mild concussion and a cracked rib, but other than that she’s okay. She fought with the leader of the group. Held her own until he pulled out a gun with silver bullets. He was going to shoot her again as she stood over Bryan’s body. Shielding him. Just as he was going to pull the trigger Kasen launched at him and tore him limb from limb. He had a wallet. Said his name was Tobias Everly.” I stiffened.

“You know him?” Jake asked me and I nodded.

“He is one of the top soldiers for my father. The fact he was taken down is astonishing.” He nods.

“Well, Kasen is well trained and when it’s his mate being threatened no one stands a chance.”

I still have to wonder why he didn’t shift. None of the bears shifted. I must have been saying that aloud because Jake then said. “I don’t know. Well, have to figure that out when we interrogate them. Maybe they just underestimated us. Who knows” I pat Jake on the back.

“She will be okay. She is strong.” That was the truth. She held her own in a fight against me and my bear is twice her size. I and Angelo still felt bad about that.

‘We will protect them. We will protect her. this royal family is special. I can feel it.’ Angelo whispered to me.

‘I know. I can feel their bonds, and their love for one another.’ I responded.

‘We are now a part of them too. We will all do great things I sure hope so.’ Jake walks off and I turn to Duke.

“I will Avenge them. I promise you my family will pay.” I say angrily.

“I know, I know. I trust you; I believe you. Everyone will be okay. After all you, me and Rosie are a family.” I want to stay that way” He grabs my hand and we wait in the family room for Kasen to return so we can get this interrogation over with.
