I had to call Rudolph and tell him everything.

Logan was the son of the Dark Diamond’s Alpha, so Lucien had to know him for sure, at least by sight. I thought I could ask him some questions about my mate and maybe get his phone number. Although that option somehow didn’t sit well with my inner self... but then again, it would be harder for him to get my number than for me to get his. Plus, something in me whispered that Logan resented me, considering how he had stormed away. Especially considering the diameter and depth of the hole he had left in the wall.

However, when I tried to call the “Santa’s reindeer”, he gave no sign of life. I huffed in frustration.

Where was Rudolph when I needed him!?

When I attempted a second time, he finally answered so I let out a sigh of relief, only to die in my throat a second later... In fact, I heard an odd noise from the other line, and when I called his name, the line dropped.

Assuming his battery had run out or he was probably busy with his mate, I gave up on my plan and decided to talk to him later.

So instead, I called someone else.

Someone I could always trust, someone who would always be there for me, someone who had known me for a lifetime, someone who cared deeply about me but who I knew would still be impartial, unlike my twin, family and Tiziano, and basically all my pack.

He was not a biological brother like Lachlan or Ian, but the brother that life had gifted me.

He was the future Alpha of the most feared pack on the planet.

The one renowned for their were-beasts. Werewolves who were not just werewolves. Werewolves who were more like non-extinct prehistoric creatures.

They could walk in their wolf form on two feet, they could be shifted in their wolf form and still be humans. In a perfect, lethal balance.

He was Archie, the future Alpha of Black Devil.

AN/ eheh ;)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Future Alpha who was too busy for me and didn’t answer at first, but unlike the ‘Santa’s reindeer’, Archie called me back sometime later, when I was on my way to the library.
“Hello Chie!” I cheerfully exclaimed, turning on the video call and putting on the earphones.
Despite being one of my best friends since childhood, we haven’t seen each other much lately, as he lived in Europe.
“Hey Vy!” His deep voice came from the other line, and a wide smile decorated his beautiful features.
I grinned at our childhood nicknames.
Amusement swirled in his violet eyes.
I had never seen a pair of eyes like that. It was as if someone had inserted two amethysts in his eye sockets. They were a pure and vivid purple.
Over the years, people had accused him of wearing fake contact lenses for how unnatural the eyes looked.
Despite those hypnotizing and little scary eyes, Archie was amazing. One of the best people I knew. And it made sense, considering his fantastic family and the wonderful childhood he had experienced.
“We haven’t heard from each other for too long!” I teased him with a flash of sadness, and I was right.
We were both terribly busy and the time difference did not help.
“Sorry if I didn’t pick up earlier. My dad’s training is a nuisance to the—” He stopped and looked behind his shoulder, then frowned. “—You know what I mean.” He whispered.
I chuckled, shaking my head, “He can hear everything”
His father, Alpha Mirko, had always been extremely kind and polite to Lachlan and me, although he was feared by the majority, especially for his size.
“So, how are you doing? How are things in the new world?” He asked in that brotherly way.
I sighed, already stressed out when a blonde head and gray eyes crossed my mind.
“I found my mate, Chie.”
And the bomb was dropped.
I had hoped for more chit-chat or investigation about his life and what he was up to. But I had to say it.
Ah! It was great to be able to share it with someone after a couple of hours of meeting my mate.
“Wooo, really!? Congratulations Vy!” Archie looked happy for me then a knowing grin appeared, “Has Lachlan beaten him up yet?”
Instead of laughing along with him, I panicked and gasped.
Lachlan would probably have beaten him up as they would eventually cross paths at wereball!
The fact that Logan was my mate, would only give another excuse and a further justification for hurting him.
IT IS A CATASTROPHE!
The playful smile on Archie’s face faded immediately and he lifted an eyebrow.
“Did he do something wrong, Vy, that deserves a real beating? Because you know, I can always come over there.”
He didn’t need to continue, his threat hovered in the air. And he was serious.
Of all people, an angry Archie was the last thing you wanted to cross paths with.
Worse than Lachlan and maybe even my own father.
Over 6.5 feet tall, with a build that needed tailored clothing, coming from generations of powerful Alphas, Archie was a person best not to mess with. That wasn’t a surprise considering who his father was, and his mother as well.
“No, he didn’t ... he didn’t really do anything actually.” I inhaled some air, only realizing I had been denied my lungs oxygen and nitrogen for this long.
“Then why don’t you look happy?”
I could hear people in the background, laughing and chatting - Archie was probably at the packhouse or campus.
“Well, he is the future Alpha of Dark Diamond and the-”
“Wait what?” His deep chuckle boomed. “Do not say!”
Archie leaned forward at how much he was laughing with a hand on his stomach, “is he that Terminator guy?? Does Lach know?” Archie seemed extremely impressed by this.
I frowned at his reaction. “I haven’t told Lachlan yet...how have you heard of my, um, the Terminator?”
“I met the dude once” he admitted, and I screwed my nose at the thought. “Really?”
“Yup.” But it seemed he didn’t want to continue...
I pouted, “And? Come on, Chie! Tell me.”
“Are you sure, Vy?” He asked slyly.
“Yes!” I said exasperated but with a smile that curved the corner of my lips.
“Do you want my honest opinion?”
“Yes!!!!”
“Are you 100% sure?” He was teasing me, and I was not patient.
“Yes!!! Yes, yes, yes! What is it?” I exclaimed and he laughed at my face.
“Fine! He was a total idiot, but I liked his spirit. He had... strong opinions about everything and lots of confidence.”
Oh.
I knew that in the world of the wereball my mate was loved and hated in equal amounts. But Archie wasn’t part of it. And if he had this opinion of my mate after only meeting him once, then ...
“But why?” I asked sadly. Archie’s opinion mattered a lot to me.
He sighed, “Is it really important? It was ages ago!”
“Yes, come on, now tell me”
He chuckled, shaking his head before fisting one of his large hands and tucking it under his chin. “Do you remember that summer when mom, Rory, Uncle Marco, and I came to visit? For your sixteenth birthday?”
Oh! It was a fun time. They, along with the rest of the Scottish family, had come to visit and stayed for two weeks.
“When you, Rory and your other friends went to that road trip, Lach, myself, and his friends hit town for a party.”
I remembered that my father had punished my twin after he got wasted for the first time, and I remembered Archie’s father’s threats from the phone.
“Well, the Terminator douche- I mean, your mate, stole the girl that accompanied Lachlan that night, then abandoned her just to get another girl that was with a friend of Lach. He also threw a bucket of Punch on Lach’s head.” Archie chuckled at that, “He sure has balls.”
I gasped, remembering the smell of alcohol coming from Lachlan’s clothes. It was the Punch!!
“There were strong words, some punches and growls, until our group was all kicked out since your mate’s aunt owned that club.”
I laughed at this, “But come on, you were all teenagers! What happened next?”
“We found another party, your brother found another girl, and we all ended up grounded.”
I shook my head with a smile before I looked away, biting my lip.
Lachlan really did hate my mate.
“Hey Vy, listen, he’s your mate. Everything he did before will be forgiven. Besides, he was just a 16-year-old jerk at the time! All the boys have that phase.”
I sighed, “Not you, Chie...”
He scratched his head, “I’m an Alpha with younger sisters! I don’t have time for difficult phases!”
We continued chatting for a while until I heaved out a sigh.
“Come on, you know what my family is like! They’re basically obsessed with us and always need to know everything. I’m sure some of them will possibly have a heart attack.”
“True,” he chuckled with his beautiful features morphing with laughter.
Our parents had always hoped that Archie and I were mates. We weren’t, and I was glad as Archie and I had always been wonderful childhood friends and I never felt anything more than a brotherly feeling towards him.
But I was sure about one thing: his mate will be the luckiest girl in the whole were-world.
