What Separates Me and You -
Chapter 84
Chapter 84 I Lost My Pet
Conrad sighed and shook his head. "Nothing. What about on your end?"
Tyler had a rather ugly expression. He shook his head with a darkened expression. "These two girls sure can run." He had contacted almost everyone he knew, yet he still couldn't replace any leads on their whereabouts. They might not even be in Elysium anymore.
"Yes, I replace it truly strange. Let's put Madam aside since she barely leaves the house. Miss Avery isn't such a meticulous person. How could she have stayed under our radar?"
"You're right," Tyler said, deep in thought, "I think so too. Which is why I'm here to see Lewis and discuss this, but he isn't picking up his phone, so I came here to look for him instead."
No one knew Avery better than Tyler since he was her brother. Avery was carefree; she would not know anything about counter-surveillance, let alone escape Tyler's and Lewis' eyes. She had vanished completely in two short days. Even if they were discrete, they had to leave Elysium either by bus or flight, or they drove. No matter what, they still had to use money. They needed to get money; if not, how were they to survive? Strangely, there was no money trail at all.
Conrad said in hesitation, "President Alvarez had been sitting there for the entire afternoon. Are you sure you want to go in?"
Tyler hesitated for a few seconds, but in the end, he still entered. The issue needed to be resolved. If he didn't face it, how would he settle it?
Tyler entered the dark house. He couldn't replace the light switches inside, so he could only head over to Lewis by memory.
"Lewis."
The moment he spoke, the entire place was lit up so brightly that he could barely open his eyes. He blocked the light with his hand for a while, adjusting to the light, before putting his hand down and walking over, sitting opposite Lewis.
"I have some suspicions. I believe you should know about them too."
Lewis turned his head slightly to look at Tyler. "Which are?"
Tyler said, "There is someone else who took Josephine away."
"Where are they?"
Tyler gulped, not knowing how to answer.
Lewis lit a cigarette with apathy on his face. "You have two days left."
Tyler furrowed his brows. "I don't think this matter has much to do with Avy-"
"But she's the one who took Josephine away." Lewis looked at him and said indifferently, Whether she did it out of her own volition or was being used by someone else, she still can't get away with it." Tyler was silent for a long time after hearing what he said. He replied, "You're right."
"Tyler, replace them. If I get to them first, don't blame me for showing no mercy."
Tyler was a little startled. He said rather anxiously, "Lewis, Avery was wrong to take Josephine away, but that's because she cared for Josephine. You, on the other hand...it's one thing to not care for her, yet you hurt her over and over again." He continued. "Have you ever once put yourself in her shoes? Sometimes I really don't understand. Do you want her to stay, or do you just want to torture her? What were you thinking? If you like her, just treat her well. If not, just let her go. Don't you think what you're doing now is rather contradictory?"
Lewis said nothing, merely smoking in silence.
Smoke hung in midair as time passed by, blurring their view.
Tyler looked at Lewis for a long time but received no response from him. He continued and said, "Let's not talk about Avy first. The most important thing right now is to replace them both. Lewis, do you have your suspicions on someone?"
Lewis was silent for a long time. It was such a long time that Tyler thought that he was never going to speak again for the night.
After a while, he suddenly said, "Of course I do."
"Who are they?"
Lewis snuffed out his cigarette in the ashtray slowly, as if he was trying to crush the cigarette.
to nothing.
"I can't tell you." Lewis smiled with a rare twinkle in his eyes. "Some people think they are clever, but they will understand what it means to suffer the consequences of their actions."
Tyler didn't understand what Lewis was saying. He wanted to ask something when Lewis stood up and grabbed his coat before leaving.
Pieces of paper flew from the floor when he walked past. A small scrap of paper landed right by Tyler's foot, written in big letters "DIVORCE."
Lewis' voice came from the door. "Tyler, before I replace them, you better get to them and bring
them back."
Tyler looked at Lewis, vanishing within sight, and heaved a heavy sigh.
As a matter of fact, Lewis was suspicious of a few people, but he couldn't be sure.
Tyler got up and left when Conrad quickly went up to him and asked, "Well, how did it go?"
Tyler shook his head and replied, "Let's look for them. They should still be in Elysium."
"How did you know? Did President Alvarez tell you?"
Tyler patted Conrad on the shoulder without replying and walked past him.
The next day, Lewis went to the office as usual, as if nothing had happened. He called for a meeting. Seth was there, too, as they ran into each other by the door. They exchanged a look. "Lewis, you don't look so well. Did you not sleep well?" Seth asked with a smile.
Lewis smiled a little and replied, "I lost my pet. How could I sleep well?"
Seth chuckled and pretended he didn't understand, "What pet could be so important to you?"
"Have a guess."
Seth furrowed his brows and pondered for a while before saying, "I heard you used to have a cat, but I've never seen it the last few times I went over. Could that be it?"
Lewis said, "Who knows?" Then, he entered the meeting room with documents in his hands.
The meeting went on as usual, but it was over two hours long. The higher-ups of the company were put through torture like never before. Lewis would nitpick on every single comment, and none of the proposals they handed in were approved either.
Everyone suspected that Lewis was a little off that day. Perhaps he had fought with Sierra? That was because every time he fought with her, he would take his anger out on them, but none of it was as serious as that time.
They finally suffered through the entire meeting, and everyone hurriedly left the meeting
room.
Lewis was about to get up when Seth gave two documents to him.
"This was the investment proposal that you suggested the last time. Have a look at it."
Seth didn't hand it up during the meeting because he was sure it would be rejected. At that moment, there was no one left in the meeting room except him and Lewis. He clearly brought it up with an agenda. Lewis accepted the document and took a quick look at it before throwing it on the table.
Seth wasn't angry since he had predicted Lewis' reaction. He merely said with a smile, "What's going on? Is it because of your lost pet that you're not in the mood to read?"
Lewis tugged on his tie a little, not in a hurry to leave. He leaned back and gazed at Seth calmly.
Seth continued, "Do you need help in searching?"
"No need. Your proposal doesn't work."
"Which part?"
"You've been the Vice President for so long. Can't you tell which part? Or do you think I can't tell which part doesn't work?"
