Chapter 0185

Miranda suddenly realized that Elder Street was near Winter’s office. Her heart jumped into her throat, nearly choking her with anxiety.

Meanwhile, the driver kept his word; what would normally be a half–hour trip, he managed to cut it down to 15 minutes.

As soon as Miranda got out of the car and walked toward the hospital, she heard the wail of ambulance- sirens.

“Hurry! These are the second wave of injured people from the Elder Street accident–get them to the emergency room immediately!”

Miranda watched as the unconscious, blood–covered patients were carried out of the ambulance. A chill ran down her spine, and she quickened her pace into the hospital.

She gave Winter’s name at the front desk.

“Are you a relative?”

“Yes. I received a call about her.”

“You…” The nurse paused, looking somewhat sorry. “You should go inside and see her.”

Miranda’s heart sank to the bottom as she struggled to steady her trembling right hand.

She took a deep breath and turned the door handle. The next moment, she saw a body lying on the hospital bed, covered with a white sheet.

Her knees went weak, and she nearly collapsed to the floor.

Just then, a voice suddenly called from behind her. “Mimi, why are you here?”

Startled, Miranda spun around. There stood Winter, perfectly fine and lively.

“You scared me to death! Then who’s…”

“Why are you over here, miss?” The nurse who had directed her earlier walked by and frowned. “Your friend is in the room next door.”

Miranda was speechless.

The nurse then pointed at Winter. “When you pushed the door open, she was already standing right behind you. Yet you still got it wrong..

Miranda remained quiet.

The two friends stood in the hallway.

“Are you still mad?” Winter hooked her finger around Miranda’s. “I’m sorry, okay? Don’t be angry. Haven’t you heard? Getting angry makes you age faster,

“My dearest Mimi is so beautiful, it would be a shame to get wrinkles from being upset.”

Seeing Miranda’s gloomy expression, Winter quickly added, “But even if you get old, you’ll still be the most

beautiful and elegant old lady, so…”

Knowing Winter was fine had already eased most of Miranda’s anger, and now Winter’s playful antics. brought a smile to her face.

“Alright, alright. The storm has passed! Don’t be mad anymore, okay?”

“The hospital just called me saying you were in a car accident. I was scared out of my wits. So what exactly happened? How did you hurt your face?”

Miranda was relieved that it was just a false alarm, but she couldn’t help but frown when she saw the injury on Winter’s face.

“I was getting off work and planned to try out that new barbeque place nearby. But when I passed by Elder Street, there was a chain collision, and some shattered glass nicked my face. Then, I took a tumble too.

“I didn’t want to come to the hospital, but the paramedics at the scene were worried that the facial injury might have affected my brain. So to be safe, they brought me along in the ambulance.”

It was her first time in an ambulance. She was surrounded by other injured people. Hearing their groans of pain, Winter had been somewhat shaken.

Had she been just a little closer to the impact, she could have been the one lying in the emergency room

now.

Miranda seemed to realize this too and squeezed her hand. “It’s okay. You’re alright now.”

The fear in Winter’s eyes melted away instantly, and she smiled. “Don’t you know me by now? I’ve always been ridiculously lucky since I was a kid, escaping danger every time. But did you really think I was dead?”

Winter was sure that if she had called out to Miranda even a second later just now, this silly goose would have burst into tears on the spot.
