Hansel ignored Calvin and kept walking. As he reached the staircase, Calvin caught up and restrained him. “Stop it, Hans. Let’s go back! Miranda isn’t going to open the door for you anyway…”

“I have something for her.”

Calvin paused in surprise. “What is it?”

Hansel pulled a tube of anti–allergy nasal ointment from his pocket. “She gets allergies around this time of the year. I came to give this to her.”

At that moment, Calvin felt a pang in his chest. How did two people who once loved each other so deeply end up like this?

“Yeah.” Hansel nodded. “I came to bring her this medicine… She needs it… She really does…”

ground.

As he spoke, his voice trailed off. His vision went dark, and his body slumped to the

Calvin quickly caught him and tried to drag him back to the car. But as he glanced at the SUV parked at the alley’s entrance, he couldn’t help but let out a long, weary sigh.

By the time he safely got Hansel back to the mansion, it was already one in the morning.

A housekeeper opened the door, and Calvin instructed, “Help me get him inside! He’s drunk–make some hangover remedy or something…

After giving instructions, he finally drove off.

Ingrid had already gone to bed and was sound asleep when she heard the commotion downstairs. Despite her reluctance to get up, she forced herself out of bed.

She simply threw on a dressing gown and went downstairs for Hansel’s sake–and for her goal of marrying into wealth.

“You get some water. I’ll help him,” Ingrid said as she stepped forward, intending to take Hansel from the housekeeper.

“But, ma’am, it might not be safe for you in your condition…” The housekeeper hesitated, worried about her pregnancy.

A grown man was not light.

Ingrid waved off the concern. “I know my own strength. Just do as I say.

“Well… alright.” The housekeeper reluctantly handed Hansel over.

As soon as Hansel was passed over, Ingrid almost collapsed under his weight. The completely passed out Hansel had put his entire weight on her shoulders.

“W–Wait” she quickly called out to the housekeeper who was about to fetch the water. “Actually, you should handle him. I’ll get the water…”

After gulping down a glass of water, Hansel regained some clarity. Ingrid’s eyes lit up with joy as she crouched in front of him. “Dear, you-

Hansel looked up at her coldly.

Upon realizing her mistake, Ingrid’s expression shifted, She quickly corrected herself, “Hans, are your alright? Feeling any better?

Hansel sat up. “Move.”

Ingrid was stunned.

“Did you not hear what I said?

“Hans, please don’t be like this. I’m scared, 1-” Her eyes welled up. Tears were pooling as she looked pitiful, on the verge of crying.

But Hansel remained expressionless, showing no sympathy toward her. “Don’t make me repeat myself.”

Ingrid held back her tears. She simply stood up and stepped aside.

Hansel walked past her without a second glance and headed upstairs.

Ingrid bit her lip in humiliation, her gaze inadvertently meeting the housekeeper’s curious eyes. She took a deep breath, forcing herself to stay composed, and even managed a small smile.

“Hans must still be a bit drunk and confused about who’s who. Go make some hangover remedy. I’ll bring it to the master bedroom myself.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

In the master bedroom, Hansel shut the door behind him. He was feeling weak and was barely able to

stand on his own.

Images of Miranda wincing in pain when he pulled her hair flashed through his mind, and his heart ached.

He reached into his pocket but couldn’t replace the ointment. He then searched his entire body but came up

empty.

Panicked, he rushed downstairs and scoured the living room, but it was nowhere to be found.

At that moment, it felt like he had lost the most important thing in his life. He collapsed behind the couch and cried like a child.
