In the afternoon, she discreetly took the subway to Christine’s home.

Someone inside seemed to have heard the noise and slowly approached with a cane.

Miranda’s expression darkened. “Is this why you didn’t want me to visit this week?”

Christine looked uncomfortable. She hadn’t expected her request for a later visit to raise suspicion.

“Oh, it’s just a chronic condition. Nothing serious. I went to the hospital a few days ago. The arthritis flared up, but two days of rest should fix it.”
