Keeping their distance and not getting too close was the best outcome for both of them.

Miranda put away the documents and her pen. Suddenly, Hansel murmured softly to himself, “But I still consider you as a friend…”

He watched her retreating figure as Miranda left and withdrew his gaze calmly. He picked up the cup and took a sip of coffee. The bitter taste spread across his tongue and to his entire mouth, but his expression didn’t change.

His thumb gently traced the rim of the cup as his eyes landed on Miranda’s cup. She had always liked her

coffee with milk because it wasn’t as bitter.

Hansel reached out, picked up her cup, and took a small sip. As he thought, he was right. They had lived together for six years. Not six months, not six days, but six whole years.

Who said he didn’t know her? No, he knew her better than anyone!

So…

Hansel narrowed his eyes and turned to look out the window. It was impossible for him to give up.

Miranda was his!

She was his in the past. Although that may not be true now, but in the future… she would be his again!

Hansel slowly finished the rest of his coffee. In the past, he only liked unsweetened black coffee. However, there was no reason why he couldn’t change if she didn’t like it.

It wasn’t hard at all, as Sam had shown.

Why didn’t Miranda push him away?

Because Sam was good at hiding his feelings. He played a subtle and unassuming game by slowly infiltrating into her life, like a frog being slowly boiled in water.

Like the gentle rain in spring which was seemingly inconspicuous, but it nourished the soil and attempted to make affection grow.

Quietly, he inched closer to Miranda and retreated accordingly so she wouldn’t feel any pressure. Naturally, she lowered her guard and allowed him to approach her.

If Sam could do it, why couldn’t he?

The alcohol last night indeed made him drunk, but he also received clarity in an instant. At that moment, Hansel finally understood.

If he wanted to win Miranda back, it couldn’t be rushed. The harder he pursued, the more she would pull away.

His past actions had already caused her to put up her guard. If he wanted to get close to her again, he would have to go the opposite direction and make her believe he had truly moved on.

Only then would he have a chance.

From Miranda’s reaction just now, it seemed like his plan was… working.

At the very least, she no longer looked impatient when facing him.

Willow and her friend, Naomi Pullman, were passing by the café. With a full day of classes, she decided to go in and grab a coffee to refresh herself.

“Do you want one?” she smiled, asking Naomi. Suddenly, she caught sight of the man sitting by the window out of the corner of her eye. Her eyes flickered slightly.

Naomi nodded. “Perfect, I’m craving for a drink too.”

“Wait a minute.” Willow suddenly pulled her back.

“What’s wrong?”

“Naomi, did you forget to pick up your parcel?”

“Oh no, I almost forgot! Thanks for reminding me…”

Willow gave her a light smile and said, “How about this? Tell me your order, and I’ll get it for you while you go grab your parcel.”

“Sure, sorry to trouble you. I’ll have an iced coconut latte with no extra sugar.”

“Got it. You can go ahead,” Willow replied.

After confirming Naomi had left, she pushed open the door to the café. Then, she pretended as if she had only just seen Hansel, her eyes lighting up in surprise. “Hello, we meet again.”

As she spoke, she walked over to him. “Is this seat taken? Do you mind if I sit here?”

Hansel remained silent, his expression indifferent.

Willow wasn’t upset. Instead, she smiled brightly and said, “Since you didn’t say anything, I’ll take that as a

yes.”

With that, she sat down gracefully.

Hansel clearly had no intention of saying much to her.
