Sam frowned, saying impatiently, “So, who are we listening to here–me or you?

The man shrank back, not daring to say another word.

The familiar voice caught Miranda’s attention, and she instinctively glanced over. Just then, Jack called out to her, “Miranda, come sit over here!”

Sam whipped his head around. Their eyes met, and both froze in surprise.

Sam was the first to recover, smiling as he got up and walked toward her. His eyes were filled with surprise and delight. “What are you doing here?”

“Checking on the construction site.”

“Why are you checking a construction site?”

Miranda replied, “Why can’t I check on a construction site?”

“It’s n

not that.. but you’re not in this field, and it’s not like you make money from it. What’s the point? For fun?”

Miranda coughed lightly. “I have a plot of land here, planning to build something on it–is that a problem?”

“Here? You own land here?” Sam’s eyes flickered as he suddenly recalled something. “Is this the land. Hansel gave you?”

“How do you know?” Miranda’s eyes widened.

Sam scoffed. ‘Is there anything about you and Hansel that I don’t know?”

Hansel had even asked Sam’s opinion before giving her the land, and Sam had frowned when he saw that transfer contract. He despised Hansel’s stinginess and felt it was unfair to Miranda, who had worked tirelessly all these years.

The company they’d built together was now publicly listed, and all Hansel gave her as a co–founder was a check and a plot of land. What did he take her for?

Only Miranda would have tolerated him this way. Any other co–founder would never have accepted such an unreasonable division of assets.

As expected, Miranda took the offer and didn’t ask for any shares.

When Sam learned of it, he felt a pang of jealousy. Just why? Why did someone like Hansel Johnson deserve such an incredible woman?

And Sam… he’d only been one step too late. Just one step!

“Mr. Cooper? Mr. Cooper!” Miranda called his name, snapping him out of his thoughts. “What are your thinking about? You didn’t even respond.”

Sam cleared his throat. “Just thinking of an idiot. What did you say?”

“I was saying, what are you doing here?” she asked.

“Me? I have a resort project here that broke ground last month, so I came to check it out today.”

Miranda blinked. “You’re working on physical projects now?”

As far as she knew, Sam was primarily involved in financial investments–making quick money in high- stakes, high–reward sectors.

Hearing her comment, Sam smiled slightly. He was somewhat pleased. “You actually know what I mainly invest in?”

So, she’d been paying attention to him.

Miranda didn’t understand what he was smiling about. “When you guys used to hang out, wasn’t that all you talked about? I was right there, not deaf, so I heard bits and pieces.

“I not only know you’re into finance,” she continued, “but also that Calvin favors entertainment investments, while Zach has a more diversified approach, dabbling in anything popular. He likes spreading his risks.”

Sam was dumbfounded, and his smile fell.

As they talked, Jack watched from nearby, his frown deepening. He was still here, and someone was already trying to chat up Miranda. And that guy didn’t look particularly trustworthy.

Jack immediately walked over and took her hand, saying, “Come on, Mimi, let’s sit over there.”

Did that guy say Mimi? And he held her hand?

Sam’s face darkened. He shot Jack a glare so sharp it might as well have been a knife. It was as if he wanted to pierce right through Jack’s hand.

The worst part? Miranda didn’t seem to mind at all!
