Chapter 0615

Sophie’s face had the darkest expression among everyone present.

When she heard that Miranda’s team was going to build a lab independently, she was initially stunned. Then, she had an incredulous look on her face before finally laughing out loud in ridicule.

Building a lab on their own? It might be easy for them to say, but did they think they could just go and build one?

Setting aside the cost, securing the land and approvals were something Miranda wouldn’t be able to handle.

Years ago, Sophie had a hard time when the faculty favored Christine over her. She lacked both students and resources.

The faculty’s leaders couldn’t care less about her, and she was utterly ignored by them.

In her hardest moments, Sophie even entertained the idea of building her own independent lab out of spite, separate from the faculty. If she could produce results, the faculty would have no choice but to beg her to come back.

However, this was only a fleeting thought that appeared in her mind during the most frustrating times of her life. Sophie never considered making it a reality because.

It was too difficult!

She couldn’t just replace a random plot of land, lay down a few bricks, and call that a “laboratory“.

A lab that was officially recognized by the state and society not only had strict location requirements, but they also had clear guidelines for the details of construction. Moreover, they had to pass layers of approvals from various departments.

Sophie scoffed, sneering at the thought.

“Aunt… Dr. Xander, what’s so funny?” Yasmine asked quietly.

“I’m laughing at those people who overestimate themselves. Messing around in private is one thing, but to actually submit a formal submission letter to the faculty? Aren’t they afraid that their boasting will backfire on them?”

“What do you mean?” Yasmine probed cautiously.

“Ha! Do you think building an independent lab is so easy? This is just a notification of intent, not that they have finished construction. Why are you so shocked?”

A formal submission was one thing, but how long it took to build, what it would look up, and whether it would ultimately be recognized were still unknown variables.

There was no hurry to expose them.

Sophie continued, “Some people are just using this to restore their dignity, but I say that their ideas are far-

Tetched.”

“Do you mean to say that they probably won’t be able to complete the lab?” Yasmine asked.

Sophie raised her chin and sneered coldly. “The word probably‘ Is unnecessary.

Yasmine broke into a grin. “I knew it. How could they possibly build a lab independently? Those three are. just daydreaming!”

“Some may simply refuse to face reality, so they try to escape by living in a fantasy. However, they will have to wake up someday.”

“Exactly!” Yasmine agreed. “They can only shed tears when they finally wake up and realize they have nothing to show for it!”

She lowered her voice and leaned closer to Sophie. “Aunt Sophie, should we do something?”

“There’s no need. Just wait and see. They’ve already made a public announcement of their intent in front of all the faculty and students. Miranda and her team will only be humiliating themselves when they finally realize they can’t pull it off in the end.

“Aunt Sophie, you’re so sharp. You saw right through their little scheme.” Yasmine giggled.

Sophie had a cold sneer on her face, but her smile vanished quickly. “Be mindful of how you address me. Don’t be informal in a public space.”

“Understood, Dr. Xander.”

The meeting ended, but the discussions about Miranda’s group continued. Many people had a thing or two to say about it, but almost all of the comments were negative and cynical.

Back in his office, Joseph immediately called in one of the disciplinary committees, Lyndon Cadwell. He inquired about when the submission letter was submitted, who submitted it, whether it was by Christine herself, or if it was her students‘ idea..

He threw out questions one after another.

However, Lyndon’s response was short and curt. “I can’t tell you.”

Joseph frowned. “Dr. Cadwell, don’t play games with me. We’ve worked together for over a decade. Is it necessary for you to brush me off with this official talk?”

There wasn’t a hint of a smile on Lyndon’s face. “You shouldn’t be testing my boundaries, given that you knew we’ve worked together for a decade.”

“No… but haven’t you always given me some inside information here and there before?”

“You said it yourself. It was in the past. This isn’t like before.”

Joseph questioned, “Why not?”

“Students setting up an independent lab is an unprecedented event in our faculty. The higher–ups haven’t made their stance clear yet. Do you think I’d risk saying anything? I’m not looking to get into trouble.”

Joseph’s heart sank when he heard this. Even the higher–ups were shocked. Had things really escalated to that level?

“Can’t you give me even a hint? I just want to know who submitted the letter. Please, Dr. Cadwell!”

Lyndon sighed and relented. “You’ll be the death of mel
