Chapter 0617
The first person to receive an invitation was Mason. Since the Invite was sent by express mail, Madison mailed it to Gulsberg two days in advance.
Mason was puzzled when he got a call from the courier. Had his wife bought something online again? But why would she use his number?
Could it be… She bought a Hermès bag and chose to pay by cash–on–delivery?
“You troublesome woman!” he muttered.
Audrey Norman, Madison’s mom, was burning a moxa stick for moxibustion therapy. She looked at him in confusion. Was Mason going crazy?
Mason hurried downstairs to collect the package and rushed back up. His eyes lit up with happiness when he saw the sender’s name… It was from his precious daughter!
“Who sent the package?” Audrey asked as she waved the moxa stick around, filling the whole living room with wisps of smoke.
Mason tore open the package with his bare hands. “It’s from our sweetie.”
Audrey immediately came closer. “Hmm, what did our daughter send us? Why is it in a paper file? It can’t be a bill, right?”
Mason paused his actions mid–way. “It can’t be, right? just gave her ten million a while ago!”
At this, Audrey huffed in exasperation. “She asked for ten million, and you just gave it to her like that? Are you going to rob the national treasury if she asks for it next time?
“You lecture me for months when I merely buy a few bags. Last month, I asked for a new car, and you said. no. But when it comes to your daughter, you fulfill her every wish!
“I was the one who gave birth to her, mind you! Who knows what she is doing with the ten million dollars? What if she fell in with the wrong crowd?”
Mason replied, “Didn’t I tell you? She said she needed it to build a lab!”
Audrey scoffed, “A lab? Only you would believe that! Is the top tertiary institution of the nation so poor that they couldn’t spare her a lab and needed her money to build a new one? She must be burning through her cash right now!
“I read a news story yesterday about a rich, young college student spending millions at nightclubs and blowing cash on male models every year. What if some man takes advantage of her now that you’ve given her so much money?
“It’s all my fault. I should have bore you a son. All our money will just end up with our daughter. Once she marries, she’ll belong to someone else’s family…”
Her eyes began to tear up at this depressing thought.
Audrey had led a smooth life. From a young age, she was cherished by her parents as the youngest daughter in her family.

Chapter 0617
She grew up and married Mason, who was a successful businessman. Later, they struck it rich after the Hill family was relocated, and they became wealthy property owners.
The only blot in her otherwise perfect life thus far was not having a son.
Which family in Gulsberg didn’t have a son? Not being able to bear a son would draw gossip from the other families!
Although Mason never minded and her in–laws never made things difficult for her, Audrey couldn’t shake the regret she felt. Each time she thought about it, the fact filled her with shame and sadness.
“Look at yourself. Here we go again! You went on about having a son when you were younger, and even now, you’re still harping on it in your old age. How many times do I have to say this? I’m perfectly content with having Madison alone!
“Our sweetie has always been healthy with a hearty appetite. She’s the top student in her school and scored among the top ten in Gulsberg for her college entrance exams. After graduation, she got into Bedford College for her postgraduate studies!
“Everyone says that we’re blessed to have her as our daughter! If I don’t mind, why should you? I swear, you’ve got gender bias! You’re a woman yourself, so why are you looking down on our daughter? As my old boss used to say, women are just as capable as men!”
Audrey pouted and said, “If I had given you a son, you wouldn’t be saying all this…”
Fed up, Mason sighed. “Forget it; I can’t reason with you.”
He opened the paper file and pulled out a striking invitation letter. It was red, and words were printed on the stiff card stock paper.
The furrow in Mason’s brow vanished instantly after he read the letter and chuckled. That’s my sweetie! She’s truly amazing!”
Audrey was still feeling dejected when she heard Mason’s words and asked, “What is it?”
