Chapter 0638

“It’s good that you understand!” Sophie snapped just as Yasmine’s phone rang.

“Hello?” she answered, and whatever she heard made her face go white.

“How can they be doing an inspection all of a sudden? This wasn’t supposed to happen! Plus, didn’t they just inspect us?

“Alright, I’ll be there right away.”

When the call ended, Yasmine looked at Sophie while visibly shaking. “Aunt Sophie… something’s gone

wrong…

When Sophie and Yasmine arrived at the lab, the fire inspectors were already wrapping up.

Hank rushed over, looking panicked. “Dr. Xander, both of our labs got cited by the fire department. They’ve given us a deadline to complete the rectifications.”

This scene was all too familiar. Just two months ago, the same thing happened to Miranda, Madison, and Sebastian. But now, it was their turn to face the inspection.

Sophie couldn’t believe her ears, but Hank held up the official notice to her face. It was stamped and signed, forcing her to face reality.

“Wait–didn’t you just inspect us? Why are you back and only checking our labs?” Sophie called out to the lead inspector.

“First,” the inspector replied, “we reserve the right to conduct random checks at any time, ensuring labs uphold fire safety regulations daily.

“Second, we’re only inspecting your labs because we received a report this morning at nine stating that your fire safety compliance was inadequate, so we conducted an unannounced inspection

“And as it turns out, there were indeed issues. I’d like to know, actually–why were your facilities fully compliant during the last check two months ago but suddenly missing essential items now?”

The inspector’s words left Sophie speechless, but she gleaned crucial information from his explanation.” A report? Who reported us?”

“Sorry, that information is confidential. Let’s go.”

With that, the team left in a cluster.

Sophie simply watched them go while seething with frustration. A thought struck her, and she pulled out her phone to call Christine.

“You despicable rat! Was it you who reported us?”

Christine, who was just picking up the call, froze at the accusation but quickly caught on. “Your lab got reported?”

“Don’t play dumb! You did this, didn’t you? Pulling a stunt like this, and now you’re acting innocent–is this your idea of fun?”

“Oh, it’s very fun! You might call it… an eye for an eye.”

“You-”

Christine’s voice turned cold. “Sophic, when you try to harm others, you better be ready for the day someone strikes back. Because karma never fails; it just waits for the right moment.”

She then hung up without waiting for Sophie’s response

“Hello? Hello!” Sophie nearly screamed. She clenched her jaw so hard it trembled, and her glare was so fierce that Hank swallowed nervously.

After ending the call, Christine immediately dialed Miranda.

“Hello, Dr. Young? What’s up?”

“Was it you who reported Sophie’s lab?”

Miranda was at her workstation, jotting down some data. She paused when she heard Christine’s question

“Looks like the district fire department acted quickly. You’ve already heard about it?” she replied.

Christine was momentarily silent.
