Who was speaking? Who were they? Where were they going?
Why had they left her behind, abandoned her at an orphanage?
A shadowy figure materialized within the fog, calling out “baby” repeatedly.
Stella took steps forward, lunging to reach the elusive form.
Her hands grasped at emptiness.
The fog lifted, revealing a boundless void.
Stella stood there, bewildered, surveying her surroundings.
It all felt like a fleeting dream.
Her gaze fell to her hands.
Her awareness seemed to sharpen.
Wait, hadn’t she been in a car accident? Where was she now? Where was Matthew?
