“I know you’re in there,” Hansel said. “Can you please open the door? We need to talk. Miranda! Can you hear me?”

There was no reply.

“Oh, so that’s how it is, Miranda? You’re not going to open up, huh? Do you think you can keep me out like this?

Hansel’s tone started out meek and slowly became flat. Eventually, fury seeped into his voice as his patience wore out.

Just as he finally gave up and turned to leave, he found himself looking into a pair of cold eyes. Stunned momentarily, he then frowned.

The stairway was narrow and dim. Paul stood on the landing, seemingly having just arrived at this floor. It was obvious why Paul was there at this time of the night.

Sam made a scene the other day while Paul abruptly came into the picture. Now, though frustrated, Hansel finally realized these relentless “bees” hovering around Miranda weren’t to be taken lightly.

So, after he calmed down, he immediately got someone to look into Paul’s background. Paul turned out to be the third sibling in the Jefferson family. There was no wonder that Sam would back down.

Hansel asked, “Are you here to see Miranda?”

“How is it your concern?” Paul asked expressionlessly.

“You should know who I am to her.”

“And?”

Hansel narrowed his eyes. “If you can take the hint, you should stay away from her.”

“I’m sorry, but everyone knows I’m tactless.”

“Miranda belongs to me! She has been mine since before. We’re only having a fight, and she’ll still be mine

after this.”

Paul frowned. “She’s a person, not an object. She doesn’t belong to anyone. If you have to put it that way, then only she can be the master of her own self.”

Hansel smirked. “You seem to know little of women despite being well–read, Dr. Jefferson. What’s that saying again? Love and hate are two sides of the same coin. Miranda’s throwing up such an act only because she loves me too deeply.

“If you don’t believe me, try knocking on her door. She won’t open up for you either. So, stop longing for something that doesn’t belong to you. It’ll be in vain anyway.”

Hansel walked past him and marched down the stairs.

Watching him leave, Paul then glanced at Miranda’s door. Puzzled, he frowned.

Obviously, he knew Miranda wouldn’t open up for him. To be exact, she wouldn’t be opening up the door for anyone, and that was because… she wasn’t in.

The weather was great in Marvedis. Waves splashed against the shore. Fishes could be clearly seen swimming around in the sparkling blue ocean. The sun was warm, and the breeze was gentle.

Three days ago, Miranda received a call from

ter.

Her friend had finally completed the project she was working on, and Marshall had gone back to his hometown for the winter break. Winter slept for two days straight. Feeling bored, she asked Miranda to join her on a trip on a whim.

“As for our destination…” Winter stroked her chin. ” Let’s go to Marvedis.”

Miranda gave it a brief thought before agreeing with Winter’s suggestion. “Okay.”

Besides trying to avoid the commotion Sam and Hansel had stirred, she also wanted to have a good rest.

Although she loved reading and studying, she knew it wasn’t good for one to be under constant pressure. Only by balancing work and rest would she be able to go far.

Right now, she gazed at the blue ocean and clear sky while lying on the beach chair. As she listened to the waves splashing against the shore, enjoying the warm sun, she was pleased with her decision to

come.

She picked up her glass of mango juice and took a sip. It had the right amount of sweetness.

Not far off, Winter was walking toward Miranda in a revealing outfit. Seeing how relaxed Miranda was, she promptly lay in the chair beside her. “Oh, this feels good. You do know how to enjoy yourself.”
