Whispers Turn to Whimpers: Could He Ever Change? -
Chapter 446
Rushing to not keep her waiting, Gilbert practically flew to the shop.
Just like before, he grabbed what he needed and was ready to bolt. But as he reached the door, he paused.
Turning back, he approached the clerk.
"Do you have any hair clips for little girls?"
The clerk was a bit puzzled. "Mr. Johnson, what kind are you looking for?"
"Something like... with Minnie Mouse on it?" Gilbert pondered.
At that, the clerk smiled and nodded, "We have just the thing, a designer collaboration piece."
Pulling out a pair of hair clips from the cabinet, the clerk presented them to Gilbert. They were indeed adorned with Minnie Mouse, about the size of a girl's thumbnail, embellished with white diamonds, and featured a striking red bow - utterly charming.
Gilbert's lips curved into a smile, imagining Jenna wearing them. She'd love them, he thought.
"That'll do."
He gestured with his chin, "No need to wrap them. I'll take them as they are."
"Sure thing, Mr. Johnson."
The clerk closed the box and handed it over. Gilbert stuffed it into his bag and left the store.
Back in the car, Sherilyn was dozing off in the seat, yawning so hard tears were forming.
"Bored of waiting?"
Gilbert leaned in for a quick kiss on her lips. "Sorry, no more stops now. Let's go."
"Mhm, okay."
At the Johnson Mansion, the entire Johnson family was bustling with preparations for Francis' wedding. Upon arrival, Gilbert was immediately roped into the frenzy by Sylvia, Sherilyn included, to help out. Meanwhile, Caroline and Francis, the couple of the hour, were nowhere to be seen.
Gilbert casually inquired, "Where are the lovebirds?"
"They're here..."
Speak of the devil, and they shall appear.
Caroline, radiant, was linking arms with Francis as they descended the stairs. She playfully scolded Gilbert, "Mr. Gilbert, feeling a bit put upon? Did we tire you out?" "Not at all." Gilbert shook his head with a smile. "For my brother and sister-in-law, it's my pleasure."
"That's more like it."
Gilbert glanced at Francis, "Big bro, stepping out?"
"Mhm." Francis nodded slightly.
Caroline explained with a smile, "I launched a wedding dress design contest the other day."
"Got a winner?"
"There's one I really like, planning to meet the designer."
As she leaned into Francis, Caroline looked up at him, "Even though I'm the one wearing it, Francis is the groom. His opinion matters. We're going together." Since their engagement, Caroline seemed to live in a blissful bubble.
The overwhelming sense of joy was so intense that even Sherilyn, who was usually distant, could feel it.
Suddenly, Caroline's gaze fell on Sherilyn's left wrist, her eyes narrowing slightly.
But it was just for a moment before she looked away, "Francis, let's go."
"Sure."
Watching the couple's affectionate departure, Sherilyn remembered Rebecca also submitted a design for the wedding dress contest. She wondered how that went. Rebecca hadn't mentioned anything, so perhaps she wasn't chosen?
David drove Francis and Caroline to their meeting.
Caroline was half supporting, half clinging to him. "Francis, take it easy."
"I'm fine," Francis reassured her with a gentle smile. "Really, no need to worry."
"I know, but I can't help it."
Talking as they walked, they arrived at the private room.
The waiter opened the door for them, "Mr. Johnson, right this way, your guest is already here."
