"Caroline."

As the bodyguard struggled to keep up, Francis, leaning on his cane, approached with Gilbert at his side.

There he was, Francis in person!

A smirk curled on Caroline's lips, her suspicions confirmed by the private investigator's replaceings were indeed true!

But Gilbert's presence was a surprise. The brothers were really close, huh?

So Gilbert was involved in the deception, too.

"Perfect." She nodded, "Let's go in together then!"

With a resolve as if marching to her doom, she gritted her teeth, "I'm quite curious to see for myself, this stunning beauty Francis has been hiding away!"

"Caroline!"

Francis grabbed her wrist, his dark eyes piercing into hers, his voice deep, "You can go in, but there's no woman like you're imagining."

"Is that so?" Caroline scoffed, disbelief clear in her tone.

"Yes!" Gilbert chimed in from the side, "Caroline, he..."

"Shut up!"

Caroline cut him off, "As if I needed more proof of whose side you're on! I don't believe his lies, and I certainly don't believe yours!" Jerking her arm free from Francis, she pushed the door open and stormed inside.

"Where is she? Show yourself!"

Standing in the living room, Caroline scanned her surroundings.

Only silence answered her, the kind that emphasized the emptiness of the place, as if no one lived there.

"No, it can't be!"

Refusing to believe, Caroline dashed upstairs.

"Francis..." Gilbert glanced at his brother before hurrying after her.

Upstairs, Caroline burst into the master bedroom, swung open the wardrobe, only to replace it completely empty!

She turned and checked every other room, but it was all the same!

"Something's wrong..." Caroline's face turned pale, her head shaking in disbelief.

"What's wrong?" Gilbert had been following her closely.

"Where is she?"

Caroline's head snapped up, confronting him, "There are clear signs someone's been living here! Where did you hide her?"

It was obvious the rooms had been

Francis frowned, "Caroline, you're being too paranoid, there's really nothing..."

"Ah!"

A pained cry escaped Caroline, her brows furrowing deeply, "Gilbert, after all these years, can't you be honest with me for once? Is your brother all you care about? Are you really going to betray me, side with him against me?"

"Caroline..."

"Tell me!" Tears filled Caroline's eyes, her voice breaking, "Please, just be honest with me!"

"Caroline."

Francis approached, cane in hand.

He took her hand, "What do you want Gilbert to say, huh? You wanted to come in, so we let you. Now, enough of this!"

"I'm making a scene?"

A moment of realization hit Caroline, tears halted in their tracks. "You think I'm making a scene, huh...well."

Her gaze hardened, staring straight at Francis.

"You've played your cards well, and I still haven't caught her!"

And she knew, after tonight, Francis would only be more cautious.

"But, Francis, I'm no fool! Whether you've wronged me, deep down, you know..."

She shrugged off Francis' hand, turning to leave.

"I'll see myself out," Caroline said,

With those parting words, she hurried downstairs.

The brothers stood rooted to the spot, called out by name.

"Sawyer." Francis' brow furrowed as he called for Sawyer, instructing, "Follow her, make sure she gets home safely."
