Whispers Turn to Whimpers: Could He Ever Change? -
Chapter 606
The scene had everyone frozen in place, exchanging bewildered glances, enveloped in a heavy silence.
Mr. Francis actually jumped in himself?
Drenched from head to toe, Francis managed to get Rebecca to the shore, where the security staff quickly pulled them to safety. "Cough, cough, cough..."
Choking and sputtering, Rebecca turned her head to spit out the lake water she'd swallowed.
A nurse hurried over, offering a helping hand, "Ms. White, come on, you need to get into a hot bath right away!"
"Mm..."
Rebecca nodded in agreement, but her legs gave out, and she slumped back down.
She was clearly shaken, her legs still too weak to stand.
"I've got her." The security guard approached, extending his arms towards Rebecca.
"Hold on! I'll do it!"
With a frown, Francis stepped in front of the guard, blocking him.
The guard paused, stepping back silently as the nurse also made way.
Francis leaned down, slipped his arms beneath Rebecca, and lifted her in a smooth, horizontal carry.
Rebecca's eyes widened as she was enveloped by a strong yet unfamiliar presence.
This person...
Though she couldn't see him, she knew he was the one who had saved her.
With the inherent awkwardness of being held by a man, Rebecca didn't know where to place her hands and, looking earnestly into Francis' eyes, she said, "Thank you for saving me." Francis glanced down at her, a small smile playing on his lips, "No need to thank me."
Rebecca silently noted his voice was quite pleasant.
Worried about Rebecca catching a cold, Francis swiftly carried her back to their townhouse.
The nurse had already prepared a hot bath, pointing towards the bathroom, "This way!"
"Okay."
Francis nodded, carried Rebecca into the bathroom, then turned and left.
By the time Rebecca finished her bath, Francis was gone.
The doctor had come and gone, having checked her over.
Now, the nurse brought her some warm tea, which Rebecca thanked her for before taking small sips.
"Why were you wandering off? Didn't we tell you to stay put?" the nurse asked, puzzled.
Rebecca frowned slightly, shaking her head in confusion.
"I'm sorry for causing trouble. I thought... I thought I heard a baby crying?"
The nurse was taken aback, "Why would you go looking for a crying baby?"
Rebecca was just as confused, "I don't know... Why indeed?"

"Forget it," the nurse cut her off. "Just drink some warm tea. It's tand that lake water was freezing."
"Mm."
Rebecca nodded before asking, "Do you know the gentleman who saved me?"
"Not really," the nurse replied. "He's new next door."
"Huh?" Rebecca blinked in surprise. "Someone moved in next door?"
"Yeah. A couple of days ago."
Rebecca quietly mused that this neighbor must be quite the introvert, preferring solitude over socializing.
After a bath to chase away the chill, Francis got dressed and was met by Rebecca's nurse.
"Mr. Francis."
The nurse recounted the conversation with Rebecca in detail. "That's about it."
"Understood."
Francis waved a dismissive hand,

The nurse nodded, feeling a chill, "Understood."
Before leaving, she pointed to the table, "Mr. Francis, there's warm tea for you. Don't forget to drink it."
"Mm."
Francis nodded, walking over to pick up the tea.
Running towards a crying baby without understanding why?
It seemed Rebecca's condition was more serious than he had thought.
Francis frowned, rubbing his thigh that was still aching... He hadn't f
